Haviss smirks at Ike's last question. "Because eventually, my human friend, they stop yelling," he says. "As Elriss so eloquently stated, they come to us kicking and screaming. But eventually they learn that we know what is best for them. They learn that their own thoughts and desires are flawed. And they cease their useless fight for control."

His grin widens slightly. "Perhaps you could find out for yourself, hm? I might not be able to bring an Imperial armada to this place -- nor would I want to -- but a single Yeerk could be managed, if you were interested in the experience."

"The Spirit of the Lord guides and protects me." Ike said, picking up his medallion again, that always hangs around his neck. To be honest, it was a bit more pleasant than the cross. Sometimes he wondered why the cross became the symbol of Christianity, when it was the fact that He rose again that was important. Not His death itsself. "I'm up for the challenge, but let it be you. For every moment you spend in me, I ask that your host is a free person. If life with you is truly better, perhaps he will come to the conclusion of his own will, without your direct influence."

Mar listens to the conversation between the Yeerk and the Christian carefully. He is aware that the Yeerk has a distaste for his snide comments, but how can he help himself? The morality of slavery, being argued by fundamentalists in front of him! The whole thing has a delicious air of irony that causes him to grin a bit, although that might be the effect of the drink upon his body. He decides not to summon another, for the moment. However, for whatever reason, Ike's continual references to his Father bother him greatly. A life spent on false pretenses was no part of the Game at all.

"Ike, I hate to repeat myself..." says Mar, turning his head to look at Ike with a bit apprehension in his voice. "But the thing is...I have been searching for a way to meet with the person you say you met for a very long time. If there were such an easy way from here that you might literally bump into a part of his Mass, I would have found it by now."

Elriss finishes off her second redin in as many minutes and slams the empty glass down on the counter. She motions to the bartender for another, noticeably swaying now. The bartender raises an eyebrow at her, but provides the drink nonetheless.

She swirls the contents in the glass and laughs in response to Ike, "I know you humans value free will above life itself and all that, but there are more important things than being able to choose whether to watch football or porno. If you knew how we have to go through life without hosts... you'd understand." She's tearing up again, "Most of your people need a little prodding to see things our way, and that takes time. Asking our hosts to see things our way without warning can be a bit of a shock."

She sets her glass down and stares, contemplatively, into the murky liquid. "Our people are intelligent, yet blind and weak. We're helpless in our own bodies, but we've been gifted with the ability to make use of the bodies of others. I don't want to hear anything about a god that thinks we should ignore our gifts and live our lives unfulfilled."

When Mar speaks, she again turns towards him, wondering what, exactly, he's talking about. Any other time, she'd put him down as a crazy person and leave it at that, but here, she's realizing, nothing is as it seems. Who... or what... is he?

"Don't be foolish, I'm not leaving my host," Haviss says, scoffing at the idea. "I need him for my current assignment. You would be relatively useless to me."

His attention turns to the increasingly drunk Elriss and he frowns, recognizing the vague scent of fumes. "Are you drinking redin?" he asks in amazement. "By the Kandrona, put that glass down. Another one will render your host unconscious for a week. Are you completely mad?"

"Not the curious type who flirts with brief experiments, are you?" says Mar to Haviss. "You'll find that leaving this place is always a tad problematic, whatever other engagements you're involved in. I would be...interested to see what being infested would be like. It's theoretically possible."

Haviss' eyebrows shoot up. "Two volunteers? Well, this is a strange place indeed," he says, leaning back in his chair, considering. "As I said, I am not in a position to leave my host. I am attempting to recover someone who is biologically linked to him. Losing his form would make my task far more difficult." His shoulders lift in a shrug. "Unless there were some way to assure he was returned to me, I am afraid your experiment will have to wait until I am able to bring some of my brothers to this place."

"I suppose we're at an impasse in what we believe would be better. I hope this isn't offensive, but I'm curious why you don't select nonsentient animals. Gorillas, for instance. Unless there would be a language problem, like having difficulties speaking English or galard. Though I suppose you believe as long as something works, there isn't much motivation to change. Unless something happens to make it exceedingly difficult, your people will just keep maintaining the status quo."

"Haviss, I suppose I don't have a rebuttal if you need that person for a mission. You're free to bring one of your people, but I will need some extra incentive to do this. Unless Elriss wants to take me up on the same offer."

"It is likely that they are afraid that entering the mind of a non-sentient animal would diminish their own mental capacity while hosting," Mar says, in a manner that suggests he does not know and is merely guessing. "Or perhaps they seek an equal standing with other sentient races and entering a non-sentient host would diminish them. But, not being myself a Yeerk, I cannot be certain."

"Not to mention the advantages of adding new technologies and scientific theories to our knowledge base," Haviss says. "Humans may not have Z-space capabilities, but they are intelligent and their minds are useful in the way an ape would not be." His nose wrinkles. "Besides, I like to think we have more dignity than that."

"I suppose having Humans would allow you to gain information on them better." Ike said. "I'd also hate to hear your people be called animals if you stuck to taking them. People often associate appearance with capability, even though we have all kinds of stories about not judging a book by its cover."

"Also Mar I forgot to say, but I suppose when God says "Have no other Gods before me", He might have been implying that there are other Gods. I was raised to interpret as no other gods existing, but honsestly I don't think the Old testament says anything about Yaweh being the only God there is. I guess maybe I found...something else, but He said he was The One, and the Highest of Highest. He seems a lot like our God as well."

"Perhaps," says Mar to Ike, biting his lip. Something appears to unsettling the normally calm and arrogant man, as if he has past history with the religion. Which to some extent is the case....and to some extent is not. "It is not my business to interfere with you in this Bar, and not my time."

He could sense a climate in the air around the boy, something far more than spiritual protection. The apprehension weighed his body down. A wavering something, like the Mass connected distantly to his own body. What was that? Without a closer investigation, he could not quite make it out. He doubted it would want him to take a closer look just yet.

"Not completely mad," Elriss tells Haviss with what she thinks is a smirk. She swirls her third glass again, considering, then waves it at the bartender. "Hey, handsome, any chance you give to-go cups in this little hole?" She frowns at the small puddle of redin on the counter in front of her as the bartender sets a clear, plastic cup with a lid and a straw down in front of her. She shakes her head. Maybe that was a little too much, too fast. She's certainly starting to feel it.

"Someone's not a believer in animal rights," she says mockingly to Ike. "Hon, we need hosts that can help us get more hosts. What are there, like a thousand gorillas in the world? Do you know how many Yeerks we have to host? And then you've gotta think about how much more humans can do than gorillas. Humans already have so much. Gorillas have some patches of jungle or whatever. What would we do then, sit in the jungle and eat leaves while the Andalites and the humans keep getting better and better at their technology thing? Why would we start from scratch when the humans have so much already? My people are intelligent enough to be great, to walk through the stars, and you think we're going to settle for dumb creatures with nothing better to do than poop in their hands?" She punctuates her question with a sharp "Ha!" before continuing. "He gets it," she says, pointing at Mar.

"I know you all have your cute little 'gods' and stuff," she says, waving a hand at Mar and Ike, "but where's mine? Where's the one that's going to lead my people to salvation?" She stares at the countertop as she contemplates what she's just said. "We Yeerks have only each other," she concludes quietly.

Ike was obviously not getting anywhere with these Yeerks, so he just leaned back and drank his scotch. The only thing that would stop these Yeerks is if they screwed up and lost the war, and after that they may go extinct because the only allies they had were under the effects of stockholm syndrome. At least he gave it his best shot.

Haviss snorts a little. "I think you may have silenced the young preacher," he says to Elriss, ****ing an eyebrow at her. His gaze drifts to her to-go cup of redin. A small smile remaining in place he uses one foot to nudge the chair across from him out away from the table. "Have a seat, Elriss. I am interested in hearing about the happenings of the Empire in your particular universe -- and if seeing if we are from the same one or not. Your next redin is on me, if you make it that far."

He pulls up his comm link and checks it briefly, setting it on the table within easy reach as he waits to see whether or not Elriss will take him up on the offer. No new messages. No new leads. His friendly smile grows ever so slightly more strained.
