"Don' mind if I do," Elriss says smugly, smirking at Ike as she grabs her drink and steps over to Haviss's table.

She slides into her chair and makes a futile attempt to brush some of the dirt from her uniform. "I really shun't stay long," she slurs, then frowns. She has definitely had too much redin. She takes another sip. It tastes even better through a straw.

"I have important business," she states proudly, and quite loudly. "There're always rebels to deal with, and the job always seems to fall to me."

Ike rolls his eyes at Elriss' smirk, and turns his attention back to Mar. "You are not totally as you seem. You say you've been looking for god for a while, and haven't found him. I may be able to call on my Lord, whoever He may truly be, if I can get some things together. I'm afraid it isn't always as easy as putting your hands together and bowing your head."

"Rebels?" Haviss inquires politely, deliberately ignoring her blatant drunkenness. "That sounds like a bit of a messy job. I am glad the Empire has such, erh, reliable resources such as yourself." He lifts his pint and takes a small sip. "Would you be willing to tell me more about this...Light...you keep mentioning? Something tells me you are not referring to a Kandrona generator." He gives her a pleasant smile, eyebrows raising inquisitively.

Mar himself was getting a bit tipsy, although his tolerance for the moment remained intact. He glanced at Ike, wondering how best to phrase the issue. Or if there was a point to doing so among such a person. "Yes, yes. I...I have, and I have seen a great many Highest along the way. None of them were the Father, Ike---although at least one has the same alignment as myself." Mar smiled slightly and then let it go.

"I don't think even if you could contact Him that we would be able to talk, or that He would want to talk to me," says Mar with a hint of contempt, one of his fingers stirring the wine glass. "We had a parting of the ways long ago, and I have been wandering ever since. Occasionally I try to make amends, but He does not care what I think."

Mar stops for a moment, something occurring to him. "Tell me...however did a Yeerk-free human come across this Bar?"

"You had a falling out..." Ike said. If Mar was talking about Yahweh...and he had a falling out... "I don't suppose you're..." The thought struck him as funny. Maybe partly because of the scotch. "I mean it almost sounds like you're, you know, the other guy."

"As far as getting here, I just flew my ship for a nice ride, started yeaning for some good old Earth scotch, and soon enough I found this little planetoid. Remember, in my timeline Humans have figured out true space flight. We pretty much had to, since our population was getting out of control and people largely didn't like the idea of governments deciding how many kids someone could have, or if they should have kids at all."

"It's not like this place is on one of our star charts. I can't say that I set out to find the fabled Space Bar. I just kind of...did."

Mar laughed, almost a giggle. Uh oh. Yes, the drink was getting to his mind. "That's one way of putting it," he said rather casually. "From what I remember it does not go into any detail, and there are some inaccuracies....but I am a mortal shard of the entity that's being referred to, yes. Though there are more..."other guys"...than you'd imagine, Ike. The universe is a complicated place."

"As to your entry....I suppose that might be how most arrive," stated Mar, putting his hand on his chin. "An outcast, or loner, or rebel, thinks about how much they'd kill for a good drink...and ends up here, as if the Bartender Himself had sent them an invitation. Although you're a bit interesting, and so are the Imperials--- most here are more...washed-up outliers than Highest thralls or bigoted masters of the galaxy."

"I may need something stronger." Ike said quietly to himself. "I guess you could say it's funny how both Yeerks and Andalites can see themselves as the best thing in the universe." He said, leaning towards Mar conspiratorially, not trying to make himself heard by the Yeerks, though after his conversation he was less inclined to try his darndest not to offend them. The scotch was likely helping too. "I forgot to ask if they've attempted to develop their own hosts, but that would probably lead right back to their lack of desire for change when the status quo is still working."

"Okay, so you are kind of a fallen angel, more or less. I guess I should consider you evil incarnate, and take what you say with a handful of salt, but I have a feeling that something resides in my soul that will protect me. Tell me why you came and stayed."

"I came because...." Mar smiles, the memory of his own naivete amusing him. "...because I was following the trail of someone I knew. I suppose she's someone I have known a long time, since I left. I have met her in multiple places and times. To a Highest, time and space seem less solid and much less important. I did not want her to forget me, that time--- I wanted to be more than a phantasm and a dream to her. Yet in the end, temporary body or not, that is all I was. I stayed..."

Mar glances at the table, tracing his hands around his wine glass. He seems to be debating whether he wants to finish it. "...I stayed because this Bar follows no Rules and knows no creed. Because no one in the universe closest to here knows who I am, and that is a relief. I have been doing this so long that I am tired, wasted from the weight of my own actions. Here...I can be anyone I want, do anything I want, be...free."

"Sometimes I don't want to go back," he states with a shrug. "But I have obligations to fulfill, eventually---and the rest of me will need my energy."

"This is a very interesting place. I don't think I could understand having two separate parts of myself, and worrying that the greater part will force my lesser part back into me. I guess if that happens, it may be akin to dying? At least, this part of you might be nothing more than a memory that the greater you would have little interest in?"

"I'm not sure I could help with that. Still, we mortals have often come to terms with our finite lives. Even people who don't believe in an afterlife."

"That's exactly what it's like," Mar says with a look that seems lonely, sad. "I only exist so long as he comes here, and when I am gone I am gone. But..." Mar immediately clears the thought process and smiles a bit at Ike, taking another sip of his drink. "....that's hardly anyone's concern. I came here to drink and to speak among the rebels. And perhaps you, yes."

"This place is interesting," mutters Mar, glancing back at the Bartender. The man was always there, always polishing, never saying a word and taking tabs that could include human lives. "That man, over there, never ages and never changes. This building can heal itself from any attack. The travelers range from Imperials to humans from other worlds to beings that defy natural law. Time passes in a way that makes little sense, and liars speak true."

Mar gestures around him. "....do you regret meeting your God and getting involved with all this, or are you glad you left your world? Enlightenment is never as entertaining as it sounds."

"Well here's to having a good time while we're alive." Ike said, raising his glass.

"I can't say I regret meeting my God. I mean, I don't really think about my life before, much. I get this feeling that it's not really important, or worth thinking about. I found God, entered a state of perpetual bliss, and was taken out so I might assimilate more people. I mean convert people. Why did I say...assimilate?" Ike looked confused, as though he was trying to think it over, now that Mar had brought up the subject, but his body kind of froze. Then after a moment it was gone. "It's not really important, or worth thinking about." He said in a tone like someone repeating what another person said.

"I look forward to seeing what else can happen at this bar." He said, sounding more like himself.

"Rebels always cause a mess. Vissers should learn to keep their people in check," Elriss agrees. " And the Light... The Light is the future of the Empire," she says proudly, leaning closer to Haviss and smiling. "New command structure, new freedoms, new support from the Council. So much more efficient than the Vissers. Faster. Quieter. We don' take orders from the Vissers. We're separate, answerable only to the Council itself. And," she leans closer still and drops her voice to what she mistakenly believes to be a whisper, "I'm second in command now." She grins, sits back, and takes a sip of redin. "Shhh."

Haviss' eyebrows raise, and his head tilts a little in interest. "The Council is supporting a change in command structure?" he asks, lowering his voice a little despite the fact that they are the only two Imperials in the room. He sits forward, elbows resting on the table as he regards Elriss. "How long has this been going on? Why hasn't it been brought forth to the Empire as a whole?"

Elriss's brow furrows. "Well, they're not supporting the full change yet," she admits. "We're the es... experiment. I'm sure the Council already sees how much better we are than the Vissers." She lowers her voice as well and leans closer, "I think they're just waitin' for the right opportunity to make the change. Or maybe they need us to do just one more mission," she holds up a finger in demonstration, "to prove that we're the best for sure."

Haviss smiles a little, looking amused. "It sounds as if you're a part of a rebel group of your own, Elriss, albeit a bit different from the rebels I was referring to earlier." He settles back a bit, sipping his beer and considering his next question carefully. "So, this Light...what sort of assignments have you received in the past? What does the Council ask you to do?"
