<I do not know. I haven't really noticed much in the way of animals. However, I could introduce you to my friend Efaen. I asked for her help, though obviously I didn't need her much. I'm sure she would be pleased to know of our success.>

"I saw a few birds earlier." Danielle said as she walked to where they were. "I believe I recognized one as a snow bunting."

Salem listened to Trey's story with growing interest, and surprise. For the most part, his face remained expressionless, save a few moments when his eyebrows raised involuntarily. From what he'd seen, there should be no way the Andalites were capable of winning the war against the Yeerks. Where he was from, the six 'bandits' that Temrash had mentioned had indeed driven the Yeerks from Earth temporarily, but the decimation of the Andalite fleet in the Anati system had served to turn the war completely against the Andalite empire. The Yeerks were an adaptive, capable, cunning species. The only advantage he'd seen the Andalites had was a lead in the technological race.

The fact that the Yeerks were even physically capable of being given the morphing power also surprised him. He shrugged internally and attributed it to his lack of understanding of Yeerks. It wasn't really the question that was at the forefront of his mind right now.

The genocide of intelligent species- it had been a long time since he'd heard of a situation like that. The slow, painful elimination of Yeerks from the reproductive cycle that Trey was describing was almost worse than the Verrim or even Faseracens were capable of.

Salem listened as Jasper and Temrash responded- Jasper seemed very impassioned. He was obviously close to this war. Salem had been lost in though and had missed his comment that revealed his true species. Temrash had claimed to be working towards some sort of compromise end for the war. Salem had all but taken it for granted that no middle ground could be reached in this particular conflict, but now he started wondering if there was a way. Not that it was really any of his concern.

He shook his head, "That is twisted, even for the Andalites. If I'd known they were capable of that kind of thing, I might've thought twice about taking their side in this war. Jasper's right. Every species has a right to life and survival." He caught himself and stopped talking. Lately, it wasn't like him to have strong opinions on the affairs of other species. Still, his days aboard the Esprit had left him with nothing if not a sense of justice, in addition to the myriad of skills being a space pirate tended to require.

"I guess I can see them approving such an action, when they let people like Jamil-Herifas-Halennen become part of the Electorate. I'm a little surprised the humans of this time would okay the nothlitization of the Yeerk race." Humans of this time period had always struck him as impulsive, unintelligent, backwards, and naive- one of the few opinions he shared, at least in part, with most Andalites. Genocide was not something he could really see the Human race at large condoning. Again, he shrugged internally and chalked it up to his lack of knowledge about this time period.

Salem looked at Trey as he spoke, "The Yeerks must be viewed as more of a threat than I'd realized. That, or as less 'people.' Until I came here, I never really knew a Yeerk, and even I could tell that they... that you... are a race deserving of, at the very least, a certain degree of respect."

<She's an Andalite, like us. I like her a lot. she's pretty and...well, she's a new Warrior who was unfortunately infested for the past five years. Now she's free, and I intent to help her remain free and lead a happier life. A Yeerk named Terenia has been controlling her, and even though she's free now I doubt Terenia will let her remain free. She's very dependant on Efaen, and wants Efaen to think she also needs Terenia.>

Serid says nothing for a long moment, pausing to choose his words carefully. <<You... speak with some degree of... familiarity about Yeerks' nature.>> His tone is neither accusatory nor inquisitive. Rather, it is flat. Matter-of-fact.

"Yeah, but you're a Yeerk, whether born that way or not," Illim shrugs, glancing back at Terenia. "At least Serid's one of her own, in some form or fashion. He sure as hell is as stiff as an Andalite." He gives a glum shrug. "Who knows, they're probably plotting the demise of the rebellion or something."

Salem has sat, left, and returned before Elayne has taken her eyes off Taylis. To the would-be thief, she says, "Yeah, well, maybe you should ask next time. I don't particularly want to go around this place unarmed."

She turns back towards the much larger group now sitting around their table. She is glad the newcomer, Jasper, has given up his pretense of playing dumb; clearly he knows quite a bit about Yeerks, as well as the precise war she meant. His background and timeline, however, are still a mystery. The fire with which he responds to Trey's story interests her, and evokes an emotion she hasn't felt in quite a while.

It is not ultimately Jasper that she addresses, though. Rather, she looks to the Hork-Bajir. "You shouldn't ask these things. Let everything develop naturally in your timeline so it doesn't have unforseen consequences. Trust me on this one. Just because this happened to Trey's parents doesn't mean it'll happen to you."

Temrash looks to Elayne. she was supposedly from the future as well, and brushed him off the last time this topic came up with him in earshot. "This is the fate of my people we're talking about. If we lose, I'm supposed to just except genocide either by destruction or nothlitism? If I was willing to just let things happen naturally, and accept the consequences of that, I would have left this war already. Now using information from the future of my dimension or another isn't exactly a common thing to do, but unless you think the fate of the Yeerks is fair and just, you can't just stand and watch it happen. I won't just stand and watch it happen."

Claxter picked up the communicator to call Efaen on the one he gave her. <Efaen. Are you there? I have successfully freed Gremyyt from control. Would you like to meet us somewhere?>

Ossanlin stops, looking over at Mar.  <Do you really think so lowly of yourself as well?  Would something so gruesome continue to try?  Would something unable to love continue to seek it?  You might be a bit hard on yourself Mar.>

He continues toward the bar, the building growing closer.  <What do I want?  Hm...the impossible.  I want a peaceful end to the war, both Andalites and Yeerks living in harmony with the Galaxy.  That's what I want.>  Ossanlin chuckles a bit, looking back at Mar again.  <Think you can manage?>

Mar smirks, putting a hand on Ossanlin's shoulder. "That's a pipe dream, and you know that Ossanlin. Even when I make it back, I cannot stop the wheel from turning. I am not a native user of this universe....there are others whose Game demands a much nastier war. I would... try to do it for you, even if chaos and hate tend to suit me well. But I'm simply not in a position to interfere, and mortals have more control than I'd like to admit."

They're getting closer to the front of the Bar, luckily. It has been a strange walk, in Mar's opinion. "...at every step you remind me of someone I know. ...I told you this once. You are older and wiser than he psychologically, but that damnable idealism remains in you both. Not much I can do but run into such people, is there?"

Mar chuckles at this thought. His benign posture and his pleasure make him seem far more human than he was when he entered the Bar.

Luckily, no one mentioned or seemed to take notice of their little mistake. Jasper was quiet now, and pulled out his notebook. He flipped to the last page he was on, and picked up where he'd left off on his sketch of the Methodist Hospital he was drawing. He drove past it everyday on his way to work, so he knew that building pretty well. He brushed off some eraser shavings and began busily shading and outlining some of the finer details. It wasn't one that he was really proud of, but it was a decent sketch. One could recognize it as that hospital, at the least.

While his pencil scritched and scratched on the page, his and Sapttus' thoughts pondered Elayne's advice, and Temrash's comments. In regards to the Yeerk-Andalite war, what could you consider to be "natural development"? That seemed to be an interesting notion. This wasn't something that you could compare to previous wars in any history he knew of. Well, you could look back at the Hork-Bajir invasion... or any of the other planets they'd taken hostage. But then again, the only real antagonists the Yeerks faced for all those scenarios were the Andalites. So that made it even more of a puzzle.... what was natural for a situation like this? In a scenario when entire races are fighting for not only survival, but freedom, what kind of action could you expect to be "normal"?
He'd have to think about this one for a while.

...And there was something really wrong with this window. He flipped the pencil and aggressively rubbed away the troublesome marks.

Ossanlin stops and continues looking at Mar.  <I was only joking of course, I could not ask you to make such a monumental change.  But that's what my aim is, no matter how hopeless it happens to be.  It is...strangely touching to know that you would try to go so far against your own nature for the benefit of me, a mere mortal.>

<I do not know what I want that you can give Mar...I do not come close to understanding your abilities, or even my own.  I wouldn't ask for repayment for friendship anyway.  And even if I did, I daresay your friendship would be enough.>  Ossanlin smiles just a bit, not really caring to move closer to the bar.  It was more than likely that that Battousai was waiting in there for him...more violence...more death.  It never ended.

Turning his eyes to the door of the establishment, the young Battousai kept himself ready. It wasnt that long of a distance from where Ossanlin had been to back here...

I can accomplish this mission without a doubt, from first glance anyways, He thought to himself, But I wonder what makes this being so special for such a high price? And if this is how this is going, what can I expect to come?

Mar stares at Ossanlin, looking him over with care. It's true that he's not in a position to give Ossanlin the ridiculous dream he's after. Even if he were in Crayak's place, it would damage him too much to go through with it. But something ebbing at him since he entered the mortal realm says that Ossanlin would deserve at least an attempt on his part. He hasn't the slightest idea what to say to this.

Mar eventually states, "...mm. In my world, there cannot be something given for nothing in return. The trouble is that I cannot alter things as easily here. Really all I can give you for certain is power in my own world...or perhaps an access point to the Mass. Though even that might interfere with what you already possess. Besides, my abilities are controlled by emotion. Without control over them, they can eat a mana being alive."

Mar stares at the door and mutters, "...are we going in to face the battousai? I may not be much help to you. I was never able to generate protection in any form, and in this body my spells are limited to the control of motion."

<<I->> Efaen's stammering response is cut off by the comm link in her holster going off. She removes the device, and depresses the button, allowing her thought speak to translate through to Claxter.

<That is good news, Claxter,> she isn't entirely sure why he feels the need to tell her of every little success. All this means to her now is that she will have another Andalite to contend with on the planetoid. A prospect that is, surprisingly, not all that exciting. Thus far the Andalites she has met at the bar have been...different. <I will liaison with you shortly. At present I am engaged in conversation.>

She returns the comm to her holster, where it is squeezed next to the Imperial issued device that has been shut off for most of her presence at the bar. Hastily, she closes the flap, hoping that Serid does not notice the Imperial logo.

<<I have been involved in this war for some time now,>> she says finally, the words sounding lackluster even to her.

"Likely," Terenia mutters unhappily to Illim. It isn't too far of a stretch for her to imagine the two of them, huddled over a list of rebellion members to take out, one by one. Still...something Mike has said...

<<Do you think we could use Serid to help us out? He was a Controller, after all. Voluntary enough, or so it seems...>>

She sighs, scanning the area for any sign of her former host. "I think we went the wrong way."

Trey shrugs, clearly uncomfortable. "I don't think...I think Elayne's right.I probably shouldn't talk about it too much. It's dangerous." He shoots Jasper a curious glance at his odd behavior, but says nothing. He is still unfamiliar with Yeerks in their natural form, and isn't quite sure what the slip up means.
