an alternate reality. the future the ellimist showed them. in that reality, ax didn't exist, at least wasn't part of the animorphs.

Ax travelled to that reality. But THAT reality didn't have Ax crash landing on Earth. That's why Rachel-Controller and V3/Emperor Espilin was surprised when the Animorphs had an Andalite companion with them.
