Parker looks back to Silver and explains, "Well, my body's been medically and genetically augmented so that it's tougher, stronger, and faster. Also, this suit is mechanically powered so that it moves when I want it to. It's not my legs moving the armor, but my mind telling the armor to move and my body moves along with it. This armor isn't just something I wear; it becomes a part of me. That's also why it takes forever to remove it."

Keshin listens to the explanation about the armor as carefully as he can. It seems like an incredibly dangerous and expensive procedure, despite the multiple uses the suit has. Whatever universe Parker came from must have had an incredibly good reason for making this stuff.

<So how d'ya think he goes to the john, anyway? Other than that first part, I'm a lil' lost.>

<We are not asking him that.>

<Oh come on, it'd be--->

<No.>

"Why would you need to dress like that?" questions Keshin with a frown. "Must've been one hell of a war. It's certainly been useful having you around the Bar, I guess. Though I haven't been personally involved."

Mar gives Elayne a coy smirk. "So you never in your wildest dreams expected to meet the badly made mortal body of a Higher being, I take it. I hope seeing me has made your life more interesting. Though..."

Mar glances at Elayne with an odd, bewildered look. "...the multiverse is a vast and complicated place. In your universe alone there are millions of sentient species, each with their own unique culture. I...cannot comprehend how you could of thought of yourselves as the only race. At least, once you recieved the knowledge of other regions."

"Humans have a long history of holding what we later realize are stupid theories," Elayne answered. Mar's confused expression suddenly struck her as impossibly entertaining, and she let out a laugh. "You've been to Earth -- you know that we used to think the Sun orbited around us?" She perched her chin on the palm of her right hand, grinning. "Humans are egocentric, both on an individual level and as a species. We tend to underestimate the size of our environment and overestimate our own importance within it."

Wiping the condensation off her glass, she looked away with him, still smiling. "And no. I had no idea I would meet someone like you. In fact, I probably would've refuted the possibility of your existence."

~~Haha, that would have been funny as hell if Kenshin had asked that.  XD~~

Silver gave a smile as she listened. Kenhin asked what he would need it for, and she looked to Parker for his answer. She was learning about him.

Al smiled as he began to walk down the ship's ramp and across the field. "You remind me a lot of someone I knew back home. Cessieda. She couldn't bend energy like you can, but she managed to gather a lot of power to herself, and she always leveraged it to help others. He and I met through her," he said, pointing his thumb back at the door Salem had gone through. "I'd never admit to it back home, but sometimes she seemed like the one voice of reason when the universe was falling apart around us."

He shook himself out of his daydream and looked at Thordon. "So, what's there to do for fun around here?"

Mar smirks. "That's really kind of sad. In all the worlds and universes there are you cannot picture there being a creature of a Higher nature than yourself. Must all sentient species be at the same stage of spiritual evolution as humans?"

Mar then edges closer towards her so that he's practically whispering in her ear, deriving great pleasure from her company. "I guess you have not lost a bit of that human self-centered behavior after all. How delightful."

Trey shakes his head, confused by the options before him. His gaze drops to his untouched glass of water, which is now lukewarm. "I don't know," he whispers, just loud enough to be heard, "I just...know I have to figure something out. I have to make things right. I'd rather die trying than waste away, another victim. Or...not exist at all."

---

"Well, that would make two of us," Terenia says with a rare smile, "Or four, depending on how you're counting. Don't know about Mike, but my host is a bit insane, though Efaen would never admit it. And me, well...we all know I'm completely bat **** crazy." Her smile widens and she laughs, a sound which feels unnatural to her, yet oddly pleasant. She makes her way over to the nearest wall, leaning back against it and sliding down until she is in a sitting position, staring up at Corliss. It is a completely unprotected position - if he were to attack for some reason she wouldn't be able to pull her Dracon fast enough to retaliate. This passes through her mind briefly, but she brushes it aside.

"You-I mean, I think....we..." she hesitates, not used to putting effort into what she says, to getting the words right. Her brow furrows in frustration at her lack of eloquence. "Thanks for coming to my ship with me," she manages to choke out at last, feeling completely lame.

Parker looks back to Keshin and says, "To be the perfect soldier: virtually indestructible, faster reflexes, greater strength, smarter too. We were originally trained to quelle pirate forces in the universe. Other humans that decided that since they were no longer on Earth, that they didn't have to follow Earth's rules. We were the trump card. Then, we met the Covenant. An alliance of aliens who wanted nothing but the complete irradication of the human race. Their forces and technology were like nothing we had ever seen. Luckily, we Humans are so numerous, we are able to outlast battles and win in pure numbers. Unfortunately, they have a trump card that no human can defend against, so our forces could never push back. They could only hold their ground, or lose it. We SPARTANs became the only force able to push The Covenant back. We evened the playing field."

Thordon answered simply as he walked to the bar, "Anything you feel like doing." As he entered the building, he looked at the patrons with a renewed vigor, his face still with a bright expression. He strolled to the bar and asked for another water.

The Director looked at the lost boy with sadness, "Die trying? Trying what? What can you do? Do you think your death will mean something if you get to the planet and are incinerated by the Andalites? How do you even propose to get there? You don't have a ship. You're located at the center of a Universal Nexus. If you leave on someone else's ship, you won't know if you'll go to your same universe, let alone your own time. There's nothing you can do anymore. You don't have a ship, you don't have a plan." The Director ran his hand over his head, threading his hair. He let a few seconds pass before asking, "Let me ask you this. What do you think is the difference between dying, and ceasing to exist? Don't think about consequences of your actions, or paths taken to get to these points. If right now you were to die, or to just cease to be; what would be the difference?"

"I have a ship," Trey protests, "It's just....a bit abused at the moment...but if there's a good mechanic here maybe I can get it to fly again."

He falls silent then, as The Director asks his question. For a long time he contemplates the difference, trying to clarify it in his own head.

"If I cease to exist," Trey says finally, "then I cease to exist. If I die...I don't know...there might be something else, after death, you know? I'm not...not like any of those crazy superstitious cults on Earth that claim men can be gods and will save your soul and whatnot, but the thought of another life after you die is...well it makes it different. Maybe there's no difference between dying and not existing, but it feels different. The consequences may be different."

Corliss laughs, too, relieved that Terenia isn't as tense as she had been.  Without really thinking about it he finds himself walking over to the wall and sliding down to sit next to her.

"Reckon we're all nuts," he breathes, gazing across the cabin.  He looks at her and smiles.  "And you're welcome."

Sitting so close to Terenia, Corliss feels the air in Mike's lungs become curiously still.

<Hurry up and snogg'er, mate,> Mike complains.  <I'll never understand you blokes.  And by the way, I'm in a one-piece uniform, so don't go round embarrassing me by being obvious.>

<Don't be ridiculous,> Corliss says, without any gusto whatsoever.

<My 'ands are trembling, mate.>

"Then what in the world is an important soldier like yourself doing in the middle of nowhere?" Keshin raises an eyebrow in curiosity. "This place pretty much exists to cause trouble and waste time. The trump card of a dangerous war shouldn't be just hanging around with bums like us. That, and..."

Keshin shrugs slightly, as if baffled. "Why would a whole group of species want to kill you? Did the human race do something to piss them off? Just...curious. The Yeerks seek humans because of their efficiency as hosts and their vast numbers. There's always a reason."

Terenia's smile falters slightly as Corliss moves to sit down next to her. She drops her eyes to her knees, shifting nervously as he speaks. Efaen's initial smugness is gone, but she is also not offering any further assistance either. Linking her arms tightly around her knees, Terenia chances a glance up at Corliss. He is closer to her than she expected and the surprise of his proximity makes her stomach churn in a not entirely unpleasant sort of way.

<I don't have a clue what I am doing,> Terenia says to Efaen, but it is clear that Efaen does not know either, and has withdrawn into a quiet corner of their mind. Terenia is on her own. She gives Corliss a wavering smile before ducking her head again, her cheeks flushing a bright pink color.

Andromeda accepted the glass when the bartender handed it to her. After she took it, Andromeda took a moment to look around the bar to observe the other occupants.

She took a sip of the drink and a smile filled her face.

Turning back to the bartender she said, "This is wonderful. Thank you."

It was obvious from the brief look of surprise that the bartender was not accustomed to such compliments. He only nodded his appreciation and went back to wiping down a portion of the bar.

"So," Corliss says, and he sucks in a breath.  His ears feel warm and he clears his throat.  His host knows exactly how this feels, and Mike can't help but laugh silently, in spite of his own nervousness.  It's been a very long time since he's been on anything close to a date.

The effect of Mar's breath on Elayne's ear was like a guitar string: a shiver was plucked at the top of her spine, and as it worked its way down, it diminished. "Of course I haven't," she answered with a quiet laugh, her cheeks reddening at his closeness. "You know my story." Her hand drifted towards her beer in a halfhearted attempt to break the moment, conscious of others in the Bar who might be watching, but she didn't turn her eyes from his. Transfixed. The word drifted across her thoughts like a passing cloud.
