((My damn phone keeps doubling up my "A"s. Yeah, remember you're talking to a soldier here. :) Though he's only talking in hypothesis, he doesn't intend on challenging anyone. He doesn't fight for sport. He might challenge you to the firing range he created before a true scrimmage.))

Corliss stands up, staring down at Terenia with a mixture of anger and hurt.

"Do you realize what you've done?" he demands.  "If they've been captured...because of your selfishness you've put all of our lives in danger!  And you stood by while I tried to contact them, knowing they could already be dead."  He shakes his head.  "I never would have expected this from you, Terenia."

((Oh man, the sappyness. How did this happen??? XD))

"Not as intimidating as it is strange... although I probably should've been more intimidated," Elayne laughed. "I guess first meeting you alongside Myitt -- you know how she speaks to you flippantly -- helped create my initial perception of you as a somewhat off Mr. Darcy figure." She grinned as she glanced at his clothes. "You certainly dress, speak, and have the ego for the part."

Elayne tilted her head, considering him a moment. "Whatever I wish, hm? Did you have a childhood?"

Trey nods, seemingly satisfied by The Director's approval, though he is no closer to an actual answer. He takes a sip of his now warm water and stares off at the bottles of liquor that line the bar pensively.

--

Terenia hadn't pictured a scenario in which Myitt and the other's were captured, but now that Corliss has mentioned it the possibility seems all too real. Typically, in a similar situation, Terenia would defend herself and her decisions, but somehow with Corliss this seems wrong. The gut-wrenching guilt that she feels is stronger so many of her other mistakes, and it causes her to drop her head in dismay as she fights against tears.

"I know," she says miserably, "you're right. I - I was stupid and -" she inhales sharply, trying to compose herself. She wants to explain without sounding as though she is making excuses, but everything that she says sounds so wrong and jumbled  together as she speaks in a rush. "I've never been allowed to be anything but selfish. If I thought about other people, I would die. Or...someone I cared about would die. Or worse. I'm sorry, I didn't...I just reacted. I felt threatened, and so I did what I could to keep myself safe. I don't want Myitt to die. Or to be...captured. I like Myitt. She's been understanding, at least. But I had to protect myself and..."

Terenia squeezes her eyes shut, willing herself to stop sobbing. She breathes deeply a few times, allowing her lungs to fill and her sobs to slow. When she speaks again her voice is still quavering, but no longer hysterical, "Go ahead, then. Just make it fast."

Corliss narrows his eyes at her.  "What the bloody hell are you talking about?" he says impatiently.

((Internet all but died this weekend. At least there's a lot of entertainment for me to come back to  ;D))

Salem exited his ship, now dressed in a dark semi-formal jacket, collared shirt, and pressed pants. All changed color depending on the light that was on him at the time, from blue to purple to black, and had a translucent quality that gave one the impression of staring into a deep lake or an ocean when looking at them. He'd discarded his utility belt, but a keen eye might notice a few small bulges in his jacket from the number of gadgets he'd substituted.

He straightened his jacket collar as he walked down the ramp from his ship, and, seeing Thordon and Al already entering the bar, jogged to catch up. The ramp to his ship shut as he did so.

***

Al glanced around the bar as he walked in. "Reminds me of Marley's. More humans though." He spotted an old jukebox in the corner and, sliding in next to Thordon, jerked his thumb at it as he asked the bartender "Hey, that thing work?" The bartender merely glanced at him and nodded before going back to polishing the mug he was holding. Al hesitated a moment before asking, "Is there any chance you take Atazin Galactic Credits here?" The bartender nodded again, then wrote him a note which read "genetic access account?" Al raised an eyebrow and replied, "Codeword. Thanks. Give me a sec."

Terenia chances a glance at Corliss, but winces away from his expression, locking her gaze on the floor. Wrapping her arms around her knees protectively she takes a shuddering breath.

"You...you're going to kill me now, aren't you?" she says miserably, "Just...make it quick. I know I don't deserve it, but..."

Keshin blinks in confusion at the Spartan's response, but eventually chuckles a bit when he realizes what the Spartan thought he meant. "Yeah...you're technically right. We're real-life mutants of a sort. Joanne's somehow landed a bizarre genetic condition that's eating away at her. Pretty useful for our line of work, though."

Keshin looks slightly bitter. "She's simultaneously the human host any Yeerk would kill to have and would do anything to avoid. Not a long-term....situation. Either way, we meant that you could get someone to bring you back to your own word. Some people here don't need Slipspace to jump to your universe."

Mar blinks in confusion at the question, trying to compose a proper answer. His past is not something he likes dwelling on for long. "I...I was never a child, no," states Mar softly. An unusual tone for him. "But there was a time when I was innocent. A time when all that mattered was Father and I thought I was the most important thing to him. The leader of the pack, if you will. The best."

Mar smirks nastily. "I suppose things have changed now that I've fallen into the Void and burned away every last trace of that. I'm just the shadow of the person who stupidly thought his Father would always forgive him. It seems very absurd now."

"Of course I'm not going to kill you," says Corliss dismissively.  "I clearly care about your well-being, I just did something that I've never cared to do with anyone else!  Me, acting like some human teenager.  I thought I cared for you."

He pauses to catch his breath, flustered.  "No, Terenia, I'm not going to make your pain go away that easily."  He glares at her.  "Just hope that that Andalite ship comes back here unharmed.  Actually, it would be healthier for you if it didn't--my anger, my downright shock from what you've done?  It's nothing compared to how Myitt will feel about you sticking Visser Three's troops on her and her friends."

((I'm out of town with family so I may not post as much as I like.))

Parker shook his head, "I asked around. Unfortunately everyone else's mode of transportation doesn't exist in my universe. My ship is long gone and dead, and no one else has a Slipspace drive here. Your Z-Space, and some of the others' Hyperspace drives are useless. There's no way this nexus would send me to my universe in someone else's ship using their science. So unless another UNSC ship comes here, or a Covenant ship, then I'm here for good."

Elayne looked away from Mar; there was such a disconnect between the terrible pathos of his words and his strange expression that she was almost unable to focus on what he was saying. When he had finished speaking, she briefly put a hand over his, chancing a glance at him before returning both her hand and gaze to her drink. "Tell me about where you live?" she asked.

((If you actually get Keshin's reference here without being Tara (the person I Roleplayed it with), you win a cookie. XD ))

Keshin waves his hand slightly, as if to shrug off what Parker said. "No, no. That's not what I meant. I'm sure you've searched the place from top to bottom for someone with your technology. I'm saying that there's more ways than science to get into and out of this Bar."

Keshin thinks about how to explain this, and then states, "Some time ago, in this exact place, I was approached by a guy who wanted me to kill a skilled gunman." Keshin frowns, as if he's having trouble describing the man he remembers. "He was...an affable sort of weirdo. Kind of normal for someone who frequents this insane asylum. But in order to get me where he wanted me to go, he dragged me into this interdimensional hell I don't care to remember."

Keshin then shrugs. "You shouldn't go with creepy people like that, but I'm sure you can find at least one sane person who can universe jump. Just make sure it's someone with no other agenda, I suppose."
*******************************************************************************
Mar smiles slightly, shrugging. "Oh sweet Elayne. I'm an inter-dimensional Higher being. I don't really live anywhere. If you want a specific location, though..." Mar pauses, trying to form words together. "...there are a few places I show up more often at than others."

"The first is on a planet called Alderon. Nice little place. Ordinary other than the moving plants and vegetables," mutters Mar. "I have a castle there. The second is a location you'd call my mortal side base: a country called Necrul. I "live" in the capital city, in the palace." Mar smiles at the thought of showing Elayne his handiwork one day. "The third is..." Mar looks off to the side awkwardly. "...my spirit side base. This is located at my Heart on a much larger me. I am not sure if it is mine, or if it was there before me. But you would not want to go there."

Al glanced around the bar at the various patrons, shrugged, and walked over to the jukebox. He bent down for a minute, and made a selection. Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" started blaring out into the bar, and as Al walked back to his place beside Thordon, he threw up his arms and called out to the bar in general "Next round's on me!"

At that moment, Salem walked through the door. As soon as Al yelled, he strode over to him and pulled him aside by his collar. "What the hell are you doing?" he hissed.

When Corliss says that he will not be killing her, Terenia looks up in surprise that quickly fades into fear as he continues. She squeezes her knees to her chest tightly, trying to ignore the blatant smugness emanating from Efaen's entire consciousness.

<<I hate you,>> Terenia spits at Efaen miserably, <<I hope you realize that you'll pay for what you've done.>>

<<Whatever you have in store for me,>> Efaen says gleefully, <<It will be worth it to see you like this. Just remember, Terenia, just because we are stuck with one another that does not make us allies.>>

Terenia declines to respond, not having the energy to argue with the Andalite. Instead she turns her attention back to Corliss. "I'm sorry..." she whispers again, knowing that it is useless, "I - you're right, I deserve whatever...whatever happens because of this." She lays her head down on her propped up knees, tearing her gaze away from Corliss so that he won't see her tears. "I was just so happy five minutes ago," she adds with a sob, "I should have known better..."

Trey, who had been staring off into space contemplatively, suddenly gets an idea. Shooting an apologetic smile at The Director he slides down from the barstool, leaving his lukewarm water behind. The bartender glares at him, but Trey has already turned away. He makes his way through the throng of tables, chairs and patrons until he reaches the table that Elayne and Mar are sitting at. He is about to interrupt them, but suddenly realizes that they seemed engrossed in one another. Instead, he stands off to the side, shifting from foot to foot awkwardly as though he is unable to make up his mind about something.

Elayne raised her eyebrows in response to the word "castle." Well... why not? she thought with an internal shrug. It's not as if someone who wears clothes like his would live in a barn. "Alderon and Necrul, at least," she said to him, "sound like nice places to spend time."

Her thoughts, which had idly turned to wondering if it was even possible for a mortal human to reach these strange places Mar had mentioned, were interrupted by the feeling of someone watching them. Raising her head, she saw Trey, who looked as uncomfortable and nervous as ever. "Hi," she gave him a warm smile.
