When Corliss says that he will not be killing her, Terenia looks up in surprise that quickly fades into fear as he continues. She squeezes her knees to her chest tightly, trying to ignore the blatant smugness emanating from Efaen's entire consciousness.
<<I hate you,>> Terenia spits at Efaen miserably, <<I hope you realize that you'll pay for what you've done.>>
<<Whatever you have in store for me,>> Efaen says gleefully, <<It will be worth it to see you like this. Just remember, Terenia, just because we are stuck with one another that does not make us allies.>>
Terenia declines to respond, not having the energy to argue with the Andalite. Instead she turns her attention back to Corliss. "I'm sorry..." she whispers again, knowing that it is useless, "I - you're right, I deserve whatever...whatever happens because of this." She lays her head down on her propped up knees, tearing her gaze away from Corliss so that he won't see her tears. "I was just so happy five minutes ago," she adds with a sob, "I should have known better..."

Trey, who had been staring off into space contemplatively, suddenly gets an idea. Shooting an apologetic smile at The Director he slides down from the barstool, leaving his lukewarm water behind. The bartender glares at him, but Trey has already turned away. He makes his way through the throng of tables, chairs and patrons until he reaches the table that Elayne and Mar are sitting at. He is about to interrupt them, but suddenly realizes that they seemed engrossed in one another. Instead, he stands off to the side, shifting from foot to foot awkwardly as though he is unable to make up his mind about something.
