<<What has her death accomplished that was greater than her life would accomplish, sir? If I may be so bold. Though in hindsight, taking her in the first place was a mistake. Terenia told us that she may have been killed ifwe rescued Efaen without rescuing Tamora as well. Now here we are, and Tamora is dead where she might have still been alive if Zorish was right about Visser Three not killing her.>>

Salem steps slowed for a moment at the mention of Hadrin's name, but he quickly caught back up to Myitt.

"Hadrin? So he didn't make it. He seemed... like a bit of a jerk, actually. I was just starting to like him," he said with a slight smile. "Justin was his... what do you call it? Host? Is that a word you Yeerks use?"

Myitt nods.  "Yeah, Justin was his host.  His friend.  They were together a long time, joined us, oh...years ago.  Not long after I left the Empire.  They were so young...Justin especially.  Fifteen, I think?  Just a grub."

She grimaces and pushes aside a big branch, grinning at Salem in the gloom.

"Ladies first," she intones.

Salem smirked at Myitt and ducked under the branch. There was Temrash's increasingly-familiar ship. Salem walked up to it and leaned against the hull, waiting for Myitt to open the door.

Myitt hops around the branch and lands with a grunt, walking over to the ship and looking it up and down.

She hails Temrash on her personal link.

"Hey, Temrash, permission to retrieve my friend's body," she says, in a tone that clearly indicates she shouldn't need permission to do so.  "Thanks."

Stepping back, she commands the shipboard computer to open with the same passcode clearance that Temrash had given them earlier, hoping it will still work.

"Permission granted. Though you might want to explain why you let Keshin go after she tried to kill you repeatedly, blackmailed Corliss, and killed Hadrin and his host. This after you brutally killed Zorish because you thought it was too risky to keep him alive."

The ship's door opened for her, and she could find Hadrin covered up on the floor.

Myitt glares at the comm link like it's diseased, pocketing it quickly.

"Come on, let's get this over with," she mutters to Salem, stepping up the ramp and into the ship.

She kneels by Justin's body and gingerly moves back the sheet, frowning.

"Poor kid," she whispers, stroking his cold cheek.  Justin's dark skin is pale, flushed of all life.  Of course whatever was left of Hadrin was less than dust, by this point.  Myitt swallows and covers him back up.  "It's my fault this happened.  I brought him on this stupid mission."  She only realizes she's crying when salty tears patter onto the white tarpaulin.

Wiping her eyes irritably, she crouches at Justin's head and starts to drag his dead weight across the cabin floor, struggling a little.

"No answer." Temrash said aloud when Myitt didn't respond. "She's a weird one, that Myitt. I really should do something about Keshin. next thing you know, Corliss is going to give him the medicine he blackmailed Corliss for even after killing Hadrin."

Salem didn't say anything when Myitt pulled back the sheet. He thought he saw tears... he didn't really know what to say to her. It had been a long time since he'd dealt with the aftermath of a death. He shivered. He hadn't thought he'd have a problem with the body, but seeing him, and seeing the way Myitt reacted started to bring up memories.

When Myitt started trying to move Justin's body, Salem moved without a word to his feet and grabbed them to help her carry him. After a moment, he finally managed to say "You two were close?"

<<Her death, however unfortunate, provided security Claxter.  She was, as the humans say, a loose cannon.  She had the potential to be very destructive, add that to the fact that she was incredibly unstable and sympathetic to the Empire, and you have a recipe for disaster.  Add to the list that she was responsible for attempted murder, secondary homicide, and kidnapping.  Her death was not unsuitable...a similar penalty might be exacted upon you were you responsible for such crimes Claxter.>>  Ossanlin pauses as he picks up the tumbler again, this time taking a sip and setting it back down before continuing.

<<Can you imagine a fleet of Imperials destroying the Alliance's backup base?  Or worse, armadas of Imperials possibly making use of this place to spread their plagues to other realities and times?  The ramifications are beyond comprehension.  Tamora was equipped with the information necessary to be capable of producing those possibilities.  Memory dumps are not a solve-all...they have fallacies, the main one being that connections to those memories can be regrown...they are not erased, merely sequestered from the rest of the brain.  All it would take is one or two dendrites in the correct direction and the whole wipe is nullified.  She was too dangerous and unstable.>>

Ossanlin looks back up at Efaen, waiting to hear her response to his prior statements.

Tora follows Myitt and the other figure until they disappear into the forest. Upon reaching the treeline, she crouches to pass under a branch and continues moving in a straight line in the hopes that Myitt is following a signal to navigate... and Myitt is not the type to take a wandering, inefficient path terribly often.

Before long, she hears voices ahead, so she quickens the pace of her footsteps. Tora is now unheeded by rocks, but the softer bed of fallen leaves is still periodically interrupted by roots and thorny plants.

Mar rolls his eyes at Myitt's passing and sits back in his seat, getting a good look around. As long as his Precious wasn't making the situation even worse for him, what they were doing wasn't really his business. Mar eventually notes something rather odd: Ossanlin and Terenia speaking civilly in the Bar. Mar smirks and sits up, wandering toward them.

"It seems that you have returned here, War Prince," mutters Mar carefully. "I assume you are apologizing in your own way for the death of that girl. That accomplishes nothing, but very well then. You are an honorable Andalite. It seems that out of everyone who has entered this run-down shack, only I have benefited. All others have found such great sorrow. It's not exactly a perfect vacation spot for mortals. Perhaps it draws people in."

{It is not wholly homologous to Andalite thought-speak. But yes, Reptilinod have many psionic abilities. A few, I am ashamed to say, were genetically engineered in Warriors, and eventually spread to the rest of the Authority.} I replied.

And to John, {Stay back. Bear and I will tell you what is going on every five minutes.}

Sovereign Kikulon stared at me. I tensed. Legends passed around our large stellar control range were diluted, but legend had it the Sovereign was one of the few Reptilinod who had honed his telepathic and psychic abilities so well, he could literally 'intercept' telepathic speech like a Communications array would intercept a transmission, intended not for it's own machinery. When nothing happened, I tempered my musculature.

"Then I will explain, as you wish. As you surmised, our ship ran into a Kqorrian Star-Hawk and was damaged. We brought it here in hopes of fixing, refueling, and resting it. Likewise with our own bodies," I explained. I willfully left John and Bear out of it, "Then, for some reason, Fenebok felt the need to steal my ship. As I ran back out to see my ship ascending into space, it came to me –– Fenebok was going to leave me here and attain glory and honor for himself, probably professing my death. Once he outranked me a few times over, he would return, and I would have to show him double honor. I ran back inside and asked for a pilot and a starship. The starship jumped to Z-space and overtook my ship, which my brother renamed the RISS Zetylon after Emp––"

"We know who Emperor Zetylon is child!!! Only a fool, maybe a young hatchling would not know such a glorious tale!" Admiral Vekk pointed out.

"Of course, Admiral. Once we boarded my ship, Fenebok was still less than jovial to hand command back over to myself. So, we had to...incapacitate him. He is still alive, you will find. The Xittol already have him in their medbay hold. Once I had the ship, I returned to the Galaxy's Edge bar and cued a Xittoli freighter. Then, I encountered you and Prime Sovereign Kikulon." I finished.

Vekk looked to Kikulon.

The Sovereign spoke up, "We will go and affirm this with Warrior Fenebok. He at least deserves a promotion to Commander for his bravery, no?"

{WHAT!?} I shouted to Vekk, Kikulon, Bear, and even John, a little to forcefully.

Kikulon scowled, "If you wish to convey your thoughts privately to me, please refrain from using general telepathy, and focus your thoughts on me. And since you seem to disagree, maybe you should follow us in to speak with Fenebok. You can...endorse Fenebok's tale."

Without another word, Kikulon and Vekk turned to the Minopell-Z. I followed.

To Bear, {That was close. He may have been able to trace my telepathic call to you and John. For now it may be safer if you contact John, and only every 10 minutes.}

I followed the Sovereign and the Admiral into the blue-green ship...

Myitt nods quickly, grateful for Salem's help, and they manage to carry Justin's body out of the ship.

"Yes," she grunts, adjusting her grip, "he was a good friend.  Hadrin, too."  She shuts her mouth, unable to say much else.

Finally she mutters, "thank you.  You know.  For helping."

---

It's Corliss' turn to look surprised.  "Hah, Toronto.  It was only a guess, you know.  I can't tell the difference between the accents in America and Canada, half the time."

He shakes his head.  "I was involved in 'public relations' for The Sharing, before I left," he says darkly, looking down at the bar counter.  "In England, if you couldn't tell.  Mike worked in London.  We're...he's from the north, though."
