"Hey," says Tara with a smile, approaching Cameron with slow, deliberate steps. She stops partway into the engine room. "It's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you, kid. Like I said, Dalik is here."

--

Myitt clears Jeffrey's throat and addresses Nepek.

"Listen, buddy," she grates in English, before wincing and switching to Galard. "My friend here is right about one thing: He's my friend, and he's saved my life before and would do it again. He's not as much of a bigot as you think." She looks Nepek up and down. "Just how old are you, friend? I wonder if we ever would have crossed paths on your homeworld." She shifts Jeffrey's weight uncomfortably. "The population has never been exactly astronomical."

Dalik waits outside the ship, patting fretfully at his pants, wishing he had a Dracon. While he waits, he circles the ship, wincing at any stray sound. In the distance he can hear another ship land, but thankfully it's nowhere near his own.

Cameron's shoulders stiffen further. When Tara steps closer she opens her mouth and makes a sound that is somewhere between a cat-like hiss and growl. Getting her feet up under her, she crouches, face expressionless, eyes watchful. If she had hackles, they would be up.

The door to the bar swings open on squeaky hinges, admitting a young woman. Her blonde hair is tied back in a ponytail, kept out of her face. She is wearing a simple pair of jeans and blue tank top, exposing a burn scar across her right shoulder. At her hips is a twin Dracon holster.

She gives the room a cursory glance, her wary expression shifting to irritation and disdain when she sees the small group consisting of human, Hork-Bajir, and an immediately familiar Andalite. "Wonderful," she mutters under her breath. Stuffing her hands into her pockets, she moves to the bar.

"Dr. Pepper," she orders. Followed by, "Hey, you haven't seen Myitt around, have you?" The bartender, of course, does not answer. He simply moves to fill her order, presenting her with a notepad that she waves away. "Yeah, tab." She turns to glance back at the other patrons. Her eyes linger on the Hork-Bajir, then on Ossanlin, before she sighs heavily.

"Thanks," she mutters to the bartender. Drink in hand, she walks over to the group and plunks the glass down on the table. "Sorry to interrupt," she says unapologetically. Her eyes fix on Ossanlin, not bothering with a hello. "I'm looking for Myitt and Tara. You seen them?" To the unfamiliar Hork-Bajir and human she adds, "Kinda short human with brown, scraggly hair. She usually looks like she's either going to kick the **** out of someone or just finished sucking on a lemon. At least, that's how she looks when Myitt is with her."

"Whoa, it's alright," says Tara, backing up with her hands raised. "You want to get back with Dalik, huh? Let me take you to him, okay?"

Myitt, who didn't even notice Terenia walk in, bites back a retort.

She grins. "Good to see you, too, kid. You like my new outfit?"

With a finger she gently lifts the gray fabric of Jeffrey's suit vest.

Tara's words don't seem to do much to calm Cameron. The girl's gaze is intense as she growls again, then lurches forward, arms outstretched as she makes a clumsy tackle.

The blonde woman stares, then gives an incredulous laugh. "Myitt, is that you? What the hell are you doing? Who is this guy?" Suddenly alarmed, she looks around. "Jesus Christ, where is Tara?"

"Hey, what the ****!" Tara yelps, caught off guard as Cameron bowls into her.

They hit the ground in a rough tangle of limbs.

Myitt shrugs. "She's off finding Dalik the Prime's host in the shipyard. This ****ing place, huh? Hey, what's eating you?"

Ossanlin watches Nepek move across the room to the bar.  <If that is how you wish to live, I'm not one to tell you otherwise.  I will, however, quote one of my mother's sayings to you.  'Anger may cost you pain and arrogance may cost you your integrity, but kindness and respect are free.'  In other words, there's no reason not to treat someone you've just met with kindness and respect.  If you feel the kindness might mislead people, at least keep the respect.  You can hate everything in the Multiverse and respect it all as well.  The two are not mutually exclusive.  Unsolicited advice and nothing more...do with it as you will.>

He nods at Myitt, eye-smiling a bit.  <We owe each other our lives many times over...I've lost count.>

He turns his main eyes back to Nepek.  <I am a War Prince and a Dome Ship Captain.  I find that the outward appearance of calm collection is a great source of strength for my warriors.  That and calm minds work better in hectic situations.  Others can bluster and shout if they want...they can turn themselves purple in the face for all I care, they simply make themselves look like fools.  Officers who use this tactic often do not have the respect of their crew.  The crew of such an officer may follow orders, but nothing more.  My warriors trust me and they trust my judgment.  Respect is far more important as far as I'm concerned.>  He turns a stalk eye as the door swings open.  <It seems as though you also have practice at remaining...calm...>

His words cut out as the familiar human walks into the bar.  His face becomes completely stoic, though his eyes clearly show his dislike for the person who just walked in.  He remains silent as she orders a drink and comes over, speaking directly to him.  <Terenia.  How...lovely...to see you again.>  His tone of thought is almost monotone and completely devoid of any emotions...a sure sign of Ossanlin's heavily concerted effort to demonstrate the principles he'd just been extolling to Nepek.  <I have.>  He says simply, in response to Terenia's question before Myitt herself speaks up.

Cameron responds with a wordless, bloodcurdling yell as they hit the ground. She scratches and claws at Tara, hands scrabbling at any bit of skin they can find. Her fingers wind their way into her hair and yank, and her booted feet kick at the other woman's shins.

"What do you mean, what's eating me?" Terenia demands of Myitt. "You ****ing ran off! Illim's been beside himself, your brothers are worried sick, and I pulled the short straw to make sure you aren't out here drowning yourself in redin."

She spares Ossanlin a quick glance and an arched eyebrow. "'Lovely' isn't exactly the word I would choose," she says blandly. Then she blinks, looking back at Myitt. "Wait, did you say Dalik the Prime?"

"I don't doubt that for a second," Nepek says to Myitt. "Biased as I may be, even I can understand a mutual friendship, such as the one you seem to have. Frankly, I'm a little jealous." He takes a seat at the bar, finding the stools to be much more accommodating to his biology than the armchairs. "And sorry to say, I doubt we'd have met on my homeworld. In fact, I've only been there for a very brief period. Most of my early life has been spent on Earth." He cracks a smile - a genuine one this time. "Oh, and I speak English," he adds, speaking in the language in question with a gruff chuckle.

Nepek barely lifts an eye as the newcomer enters the bar. However, as she speaks to Ossanlin, the manic grin returns to Nepek's face. Surely an unnerving sight, especially considering how a normal Hork-Bajir smile can make one uneasy. Oh, how he'd love to sit back and watch the Andalite explode. Obviously, Ossanlin did not like this human woman for some reason, and Nepek wanted nothing more than to see him angry at this newcomer. To exhibit that trademark Andalite hypocrisy . . .

"Dr. Pepper, hm?" he says to the blonde woman, the grin all but vanished from his face. "My old friend would approve. He always loved those sugary drinks." He very quickly brushes off his nostalgic musings. "Unfortunately, you seem to have interrupted our conversation, and one that I was quite enjoying." Why he was trying to deflect this stranger from the Andalite, Nepek wasn't quite sure. Perhaps he actually did like this Andalite more than he let on? Whatever the case, something the Andalite said seemed to have stuck a nerve. And the loneliness . . . god, at times, it was too much to bear. Never too late to give the whole "friends" thing another chance, Nepek tells himself.

"Perhaps you like to resume this discussion later," Nepek says to Ossanlin with a small nod. "But I don't believe I caught either of your names," he says, gesturing to both the Andalite and the newcomer.

Still seated at the bar, Hunter takes a swig from his drink and places his big mug down on the bar.  Picking up his communicator and placing it back in his pocket, he rummages around a little, as if trying to find something in the deep inside pocket.

Removing a small, rectangular wooden box with a crude carving of two young anthro-Cubs playing on it, Hunter opens the lid and offers what looks like a small rolled cigarette to Merc while saying with a small chuckle, 'You look like hell man. Here, this'll sober you up.'

<<This Nepek guy seems like...okay, I did know a guy like him. This old guy named Floyd, although he didn't really show it. Precog. He was a little more on the reasonable side, but literally every Precog I've ever met had, like...This massive stick up their butt from being able to see everything that's going to happen in the future. And they took it out on everyone--->

Jeffrey cuts himself off and stops as soon as he sees the blonde girl walking into the Bar, a stranger. She asks for Myitt. He gets a sudden thrill of interest as Myitt strikes up a conversation with her. A grin would have formed on the edges of his face as Myitt touches his fine suit. <<Heheh, you've got good taste. Both the suit and the man are top of the line designer fabric, eh? You won't get a chance like this every day.>>

Ossanlin, the blue paladin, visibly stiffens as soon as he sees this "Terenia" (Because that was evidently her name) and talked to her like Jeffrey would with a Hero he was contractually obligated to work with for a few hours. Or maybe the same way you talked to that estranged cousin that you just couldn't stand to look at. <<...what the ****'s got up blue deer's butthole...? Say...>>

Jeffrey's voice shows some confusion. <<...who is this chick anyway? Somebody in the Yeerk resistance? Is that it? Tell 'er my name is Void V--->> He would have finished with "Void Valmont," but decided against it. <<never mind, Jeffrey Barnes, and that you're taking my body for a spin. And...whatever else you want.>>

Jeffrey was curious about when, exactly, the others were coming back however. Were they taking a long time to find the kid in the woods?

<<She's a friend of mine,>> Myitt tells Jeffrey blandly. <<Here. Take a look.>>

And Myitt's mind opens to Jeffrey in a deluge of vivid memories, some color, some a grainy sort of static.

A scene with Terenia arriving on base, years before, cursing Myitt out for forcing Terenia to do menial tasks under Myitt's own supervision. Myitt's frustration and anger and annoyance at having to babysit this human child.

Another dream-like switch to just a month or so ago, the two of them laughing darkly over an obscene joke over a plate of boiled cabbage.

A moment in the middle of a battle, red lasers lancing across the gleaming metal interior of a ship's docking bay, the noise so loud it's nearly deafening.

"Jesus Christ, she's still back there, she's going to get herself killed!" Myitt yells as she tries to maneuver a ship off the ground. Blinding pain as a shot hits her, so real it feels like Jeffrey's own guts have been eviscerated, but then it's gone.

And Myitt closes her mind back off again, and the sounds of the bar come back into focus, a familiar and comforting din around them.

<<Like I said.>> She turns her startled attention back to Terenia, who is yelling in Jeffrey's face. <<She's my friend.>>

"Alright, alright, already," Myitt grates, holding up both of Jeffrey's well-manicured hands. "I'm still alive, aren't I? I didn't drown myself in anything. And yes, I said the Prime. This ****in' place, am I right? I--" She pauses, gripping the back of the nearest armchair. A wave of the narcotic, brain-numbing effects of the oatmeal hits her hard.

"I'm fine, jeez, don't bother me." She brushes Terenia away, and in response to Nepek, whom she has almost entirely ignored, she simply says, "Too bad. I bet we would have got along. Heh."

"Help!" Tara cries at the top of her lungs, fighting back with all her strength, digging her own nails into Cameron wherever she can catch a grip. "Dalik, help me! ****! Get off of me, kid! Ahh--"

The blonde woman gives the Hork-Bajir a withering look. "Terenia," she says flatly. "Nice to meet you." She doesn't ask him for his name. Instead, she takes a deep drink of Dr. Pepper and turns back to Myitt. Her eyebrows furrow.

"Hey, what's going on?" She has a hand on Myitt's arm, gripping the fabric of Jeffrey's shirt.

Cameron doesn't let up, though she squeals angrily as Tara's nails dig into her side.

Footsteps thud on the ramp and a moment later William is standing there, breathless. Dalik stares at the two young women for a moment, then dives between them, grabbing Cameron by the collar and physically yanking her away.

Cameron turns to slash at William with one hand, then freezes, her body going stiff.

"What, by the Kandrona, do you think you're doing?" Dalik demands lowly of her, tightening his grip on her collar and shaking her a little.

She squeaks wordlessly, squirming in his grip for a moment, then falling limp, her eyes welling with tears. Dalik gives her a look of disgust and lets go of her collar. She falls to her knees and says nothing, skittering back to the corner.

"Are you alright?" Dalik asks Tara, bending to offer her a hand.

Myitt waves Terenia away again. "It's nothing. I'm fine, alright? Christ." She refuses to meet Terenia's gaze.

Tara, breathless, takes Dalik's hand and lifts herself shakily to her feet.

"Your little human...girlfriend tried to kick the **** outta me!" she cries indignantly, and she inspects the gouges on her arms. "I was just trying to help, and she threw herself at me like an animal. Take her back, before she starts hissing and spitting again. Ow..." She balances awkwardly on one leg, checking her shin for bruises.

Terenia's eyebrows lift. "Fine," she says, dropping her arm. "Then let's find Tara and go." She gives Jeffrey a critical look. "Jesus, you ****ing look like Dom."

"Girlfriend?" Dalik echoes blankly. Then he shakes his head, turning his attention to Cameron. She shrinks back, eyes darting from Tara to Dalik and back.

"Cameron," he says, pitching his voice soothingly. He inches towards her, holding out one hand, as if she were a stray dog. "It's alright Cameron. It's me. Dalik. I'm going to take you home now."

She makes a wimpering noise that ends in another low growl. With a quick swipe, she bats his hand away, then shrinks back again.

Dalik winces, then glances at Tara. "Okay," he says with a defeated sigh. "You're going to have to help me. We need to pin her down or get her in the restraints."

<<Preferably before she remembers she's armed,>> he adds dryly, darting a quick look at the Dracon still strapped to Cameron's hip.

<<This is a starship,>> William responds, awed. <<I'm on a ship made for the stars.>>

Myitt straightens Jeffrey's back and smiles.

"Yeah, pretty sure this one would give Dom a run for his money," she says dryly, casting a glance back at Ossanlin and Nepek before looking back at Terenia. "Tara will be fine. She's got my Dracon." In spite of herself she does glance at the door, worry creeping into her thoughts.

Tara sighs in exasperation. She draws the weapon at her hip and aims it at Cameron, checks the setting, and fires.

The sound of the Dracon shot in the reverberating ship's cabin is very clear, if a bit faint. Spooked birds - or something like birds - fly en masse from the surrounding treetops.
