Elriss frowns-- she's managed to catch Kellim's introduction, and Haviss seems awfully annoyed by his presence. She shakes her head. Why the hell had she let herself become so intoxicated? Now is not the time for her thinking to be so muddled, she realizes suddenly. Not when anyone here might be an enemy.

She looks around for Gallant, who has stopped a distance from the table, and steps back towards him. "Must I," she inquires with a smirk. "I don' have any idea how I could be on another planet, and now you're on another planet too... this place seems to draw people to it, an' I want to know why," she states, shooting a dirty look at the bartender.

She starts at the noise that issues forth from the oddly-shaped monstrosity that might be an artist's misinterpretation of a young boy. The noise comes out in the voice of a woman. A very human-sounding, very scared woman. It falls somewhere between a yelp of pain and a sob.

The creature's eyes go wide with shock as it looks frantically around the room. Its movements have become jerky, halting, almost mechanical, and as it looks around, it gasps and continues to sob, very real tears rolling down its too-smooth cheeks. It cowers a bit at the sight of the golden Andalite at the bar, but then its eyes find those with human bodies.

It takes one halting step towards the table at which Kellim, Haviss and Mar are sitting, but seems unable to move farther. A single hand raises towards the table, slowly, mechanically, and it reaches as though it wants to take Mar's hand.

"People!" it sobs, in the quavering voice of a very, very frightened young woman. "Real people! Please, help me! Help me! Get me out of here, please! God, please, help me!"

Ike watched the strange creature that seems to suffer from schizophrenia, though each personality seems to have its own voice. When it called for God to help it, he didn't really know what he should do. He clutched his medallion for protection, and took a few steps forward. "Hello. My name is Ike, may I ask who...and what are you? What brings you to this place?"

He tried his best to keep the nervousness out of his voice. Something within him really didn't like being near this thing. It sensed danger within it. It sensed power within Mar as well, but Mar caused less of a reaction, as if he was tame, but this thing was wild and unpredictable.

"I know that you're looking for his sister, for one thing," is all Kellim can manage, before his attention is entirely drawn by the desperate young man...or woman?...who staggers up to their table.

He stares, perplexed, frozen for half a heartbeat.

Haviss' eyes narrow, lips pulling down into a frown. "How did you know they are related?" he asks. He glances over his shoulder at Elriss, intending on shooting her an accusatory glare. She was the only person to whom he had mentioned Dan's relation to Terenia. His thoughts are interrupted, though, by the strange newcomer to the table. He stares at him...her?...it, mildly alarmed. Instinctively he pulls back a little, putting distance between himself and this unknown.

Mar frowns, glancing over the creature with a look of trepidation. The thing very obviously was not right in its mind--- there seemed to be multiple people co-existing within it, far more than even its outward appearance suggested. There was no other explanation for the huge amount of energy it was generating. Yet of all the Bar inhabitants this...Venvolar probably posed the least threat to him or the man calling himself Ike. Mar takes the creature's own hand with his own prosthetic left.

He doubted anything would happen, but a test was better safe than sorry.

"It probably is his fault, given that he's not human," states Gallant nonchalantly, looking at the bartender. His rather unusually bent aura was difficult to miss, even though Gallant's skill had always been somewhat weak. While he was entering the tournament as a Caster, it was only out of necessity. It worried him that Titanus was on this other world with him inexplicably, but there was nothing he could do about it. Although it was starting to look like the monster was no Replicant--- it was out of control, jerky, and miserable.

Gallant found the peculiar, tense discussion between two of the Bar members far more...interesting. They seemed to know one another, but clearly not on good terms. He did so enjoy gossip. "Excuse me," states Gallant, wandering toward the two of them. "Mightn't either of you tell me where this part of the world is located? The girl says we're on another world, but I can't see how that's possible."

Elriss's eyebrows shoot up at Gallant's words, and she looks towards the bartender suspiciously. "Not human? Last time I order a drink from that one." As soon as she says it, though, she finds herself wishing she hadn't-- she could really go for some water.

She squints at the bartender and sidles up next to Gallant, "How can you tell 'es not human?"

Her attention is drawn to the conversation between Haviss and Kellim. Kellim knew Haviss's host's sister. That would be an immediate, and rather absurdly fortunate, lead for Haviss on his case, and she listens with interest, glaring suspiciously at Kellim.

The odd boy-like creature looks at Ike, panic in its eyes giving way to just a small amount of hope. If it notices the nervous reactions of the others, it doesn't show it.

"I'm a student," it says, in the tearful voice of a young woman. "Um... a biology major. My name is..." it pauses, frowning, and its flow of tears continues unabated, "I think my name is Chelsea. Ike... where am I? I don't know how I got here." It takes a jerky step towards Ike, and halts again. "Please, please help me," it says again, and it is descending into sobbing again, "help me, please, help me..."

It's at this moment that Mar's hand touches the creature's flesh, which gives slightly and doesn't regain its shape, almost as if this thing is made of a hard, but not-yet-dry, clay. It screams, loudly, in the voice of the young woman, a screech of agony, and the thing's form blurs as something within it is sucked towards Mar's arm, but that something is tightly anchored within the creature, and the girl's agonized scream continues for a moment, but then it goes silent as the blurred shape seems to snap back into the creature, and its tears fade from view, and it stares down, wide-eyed, at Mar's arm.

"What is it, Genwa?" it asks in the young boy's voice.

Ike stepped back when he saw the reaction of Mar touching the woman...boy...thing . "I'm afraid I don't know enough about your condition to even begin helping you...Chelsea? May I ask how you became bonded with Genwe and Vendolar? Perhaps if you explained your stories, I could understand you better." He tried to settle his own beating heart as he spoke. He wondered if he was way over his head.

Mar's eyes widen as the bizarre phenomenon occurs near his weapon. It definitely surprises him that the girl's gesture would count as permission, but he is hardly complaining about a well-earned meal. Mar scowls as Venvolar appears to catch on and sucks his precious energy back into itself. So it seemed the creature was not going to allow him to steal one of its number. Disappointing, disappointing.

When the creature spoke up, Mar stated, "...I do not know how you came to be here, but your presence is unwelcome. Tell your kin to pull themselves together or you will gain nothing from this venture. Or are you really such a pitiful thing that you can do no better?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Why it's simple aura my dear," states Gallant, grinning impishly at his drunken companion. "I am no professional, but I know something of the High Arts. Enough to pretend as though I were good enough to enter a tournament, anyway. But don't ask me what your favorite color is---my parlor tricks aren't up to scratch."

She was pleasant, this Rose girl. He might have her for a night, if he could get her alone. Really he was more interested in why a spirit, or whatever the bartender was, would create a building in the middle of the wilderness. He had passed some very strange transports to the left of him when he reached the door---- what were those? It was evident that some of these people had technology far above what anyone in Avendale would understand. He needed to find a way to use these people to his advantage, and return home to his sister.

Gallant put a hand to his chin, worried. Philippa could take care of herself, but he hated to leave her alone.

"Atourega, Venvolar," says the creature dismissively, in its nasally adult male voice. Its eyes fix on Ike, "Chelsea? Chelsea? I know of no Chelsea. Unless Chelsea is what you call the one that's inside you." It reaches, smoothly, for a butter knife on the table, which it grasps tightly in its spindly hands, and moves towards Ike with it. As it swings the knife threateningly, it says, "If you'd let me remove it, we can find out its true name."

Suddenly, it stops in its tracks, as though frozen, the knife clattering to the floor, and turns its head to look questioningly at Mar, tears brimming in its eyes. In the boy's quavering voice, it says, "It doesn't like us. Why doesn't it like us, Do Ka Me?"

"High arts?" repeats Elriss. She giggles, "Hon, I don' know how many people you fool with your magic act where you're from, but we're Yeerks," she waves a hand to indicate the bar in general. "We're much too sssssmart for that." She blinks, "And too hungry." She flutters her eyelashes at him in a parody of flirtation, "Buy me dinner?"

Ike isn't afraid of the butter knife, though he's still nervous of the thing stepping towards him. "Are you some kind of liar, or lunatic? Some part of you just called itsself Chelsea. Are you not aware that you seem to have different personas, or are you just lying?"

He knew that he could perform miracles. If only he knew of a way to find the truth of this bizarre creature. He looks at his medallion, questioning. Wondering. Some presence was curious about the thing. How powerful was it? Could it be useful? The presence felt it was disconnected from the larger whole, called The One, but still had a mission to bring things to its higher master. It reached out an invisible hand to try to grasp the energy of the being. To know it better. Like a hungry predator, wondering if what was before it was food.

The creature stares at Ike as though it's not seeing him. "No lie," it says in a deep, gruff voice, as its feet lift off the ground. If it notices that it's now hovering, slowly lifting towards the ceiling, it shows no sign. "No know." When the unseen hand of the thing inside Ike makes contact with the creature's aura, it blurs like an image on a snowy TV screen, and a high-pitched whine echoes through the building, reminiscent of microphone feedback, if only microphone feedback were a thing alive.

Suddenly, the image snaps back and the noise stops. The creature steps daintily to the ground, staring at Ike, its eyes wide with wonder. "What is it?" it asks in the boy's voice.

Ike hoped that this thing was about as alien as aliens got, because it was certainly strange. "I suppose 'it' would be the spirit of my god, The One. It's not something you'd remove with a knife."

The presence in Ike felt that this thing was dangerous food. Certainly not an easy meal. It seemed hostile at times, but the presence didn't know how to deal with it. It also didn't want Ike to leave without it taking at least something from this place. The One never left a new place without taking some trophy. Perhaps feeding on something easier would give it the strength to devour the Venvolar.

Mar frowns at the creature's statement, drawing his jacket sleeve back to reveal his left arm. How could this thing have known the device's name, when he had never mentioned it? He watched as the creature switched souls again and sighed. There was obviously no reasoning with it, although Ike appeared to be trying.

"Be careful," said Mar, turning to Ike. "It has not picked a coherent servant, nor determined a reason it wishes to be here. You are not likely to get any farther."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeerks? The word meant absolutely nothing to Gallant. Was it some sort of science guild? Possibly.

"I'm afraid I don't know who the Yeerks are," said Gallant politely, leading the woman towards the Bar stools. "But the High Arts do exist where I'm from, and I'd love if you could tell me about these Yeerks you work with. I'd be delighted to buy you dinner, ma'am. What would you like?"

This was probably not the best strategy Gallant had ever concocted, dealing with a drunk Yeerk member. But she was very pretty. He'd think about better sources after dinner.

Ike sat near Mar, obviously trusting the man more than the Venvolar, depite what he claims to be. At least Mar seems more civl and less likely to attack him. "I can't really make heads or tails of this. The Bar is certainly strange, and at times unsafe. Still, I am compelled to stay."

Venvolar stares at Ike for a few moments, uncomprehending. It then turns slightly and speaks, as though calling to someone over its shoulder, its eyes never leaving Ike's. "Ginks, what's The One?"

The change in the creature is immediate. Its eyes glass over, its posture slouches, and its mouth hangs open. Even so, when it looks at Ike now, it seems to comprehend him more than it did a moment ago.

"Not askin' ol' Genwa this time?" rasps the creature, this time in a man's voice, the low, gruff voice of an old man who's been jaded towards the world by a long, hard life. "Even I know this. The One's something dark, Venvolar," The words are slurred, ever so slightly, and Venvolar sways in place as it stares at Ike, its huge, round eyes narrowing to a glare. "Don' know what, but I don't like it." The thing takes three threatening steps towards Ike, closing the distance and putting its incredibly inhuman face as close to his as it dares. It leans closer to Ike, and its breath smells of whiskey.

"Listen here, boy," it says to Ike, "you watch yourself, y'hear. I look out for me an' mine, an' if you think we're jus' gonna..."

As quickly as its come, the new persona is gone, and Venvolar's posture straightens, its eyes going wide again, only this time, it's wearing a hint of a smirk, and it stares at Ike from far too close. "Be nice, Ginks," it says, the boy's voice returning. "It meant us no harm."

"Steak," says Elriss decisively, plopping into an empty chair and shooting a glare at the congregation of weirdos nearby. Or whatever they got that's got a lotta meat." She hiccups, and when she does, she looks confused for a moment, then sheepish, and then confident again, all within a second. "And maybe another water."

She quirks an eyebrow at Gallant, "Not surprised you haven't heard of Yeerks. Mos' humans haven't," she says, smirking at some in-joke. She ignores his comment about 'high arts.' Human superstition. Not relevant. "What I wanna know," she says, "is how you got 'ere. If e's right," she waves a hand in Haviss's general direction, "an' this isn't Earth, how's a human who knows nothin' about the Yeerks get out here?"
