Al laughed in response to the suit's question. My individual designation is "Al." He spoke the last word, his name, aloud, at the same time as he said it in the suit's binary. He glanced at the suit's 'wearer.' If he was at all perturbed by the idea of the creature regaining consciousness, it certainly didn't show.

"Now for the magic," he muttered, rolling his shoulders and his neck, which cracked several times. The tech-bridger device was already familiar with his own logic, and was quickly learning the suit's encoding as well. After a moment, Al brought forth all the knowledge he had of the languages he'd heard spoken in the bar- Gallard, Yeerkish, English, and a smattering of others- and simply thought Send. In response, the device linked into Salem's ship's computer, in order to make use of the extra processing power, and began translating and transmitting the 'knowledge' in a file format that ought to make sense to the suit.

"Abracadabra," he said, waving his hand and allowing it to trail silver sparks, which quickly disappeared. Speak when you have it, he said in binary.

Salem sighed. He'd been hoping the signal might not appear to be Corliss... but then, would the rebels have answered an unknown signal?

"Not Corliss, I'm afraid," he said into the communicator. "My name is Salem. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Amber. Might I speak with the person in charge?"

The suit watched the neck cracking display of the "Al" as he attempted his connection. He did not seem too concerned with the Wearers' fidgeting, suggesting to the suit that he did not view them as much of a threat, an interesting concept since the suit was armed and the Al was not. Coupled with the Slow discharge of the Wearer's rifle during his contortions, the only conclusions it could draw from the Al's care-free demeanor was that it was either concealing weaponry or strong enough to not require them.
The alloy of the Al's form was certainly different, perhaps it was not affected by Slow Blasts?

As the device linked to the suit and began the simple file transfer, an insatiable curiosity came over the suit. The Al was clearly an advanced AI and the possibility existed that the suit could greatly benefit from the knowledge it possessed, whether updating its own systems or even its own materials. A new possibility entered the suits thoughts.

The suit could be independent.

If this creature could exist freely without a wearer, communicating on equal terms with an organic creature, rather than its' tool, why couldn't the suit attain a similar status?

As the suit began the download of the files, it attempted to communicate back through the same, open signal it was receiving and interpreting, attempting to gather as much data as it could relating to the Al and it's specifications and systems.
The suit had already received permissions to download the language files through the redtooth-esque signal, it just hoped that it could bring a little more information through then was originally intended.

'Can do' Austin said with a grin, as he started to get to work on soldering the wiring to the circuit board. Placing a pair of magnifying goggles on, he got to work on de-soldering some of the processor chips to lower the intensity of the laser beam, but still have it powerful enough to handle safely. Finding a small intensity switch in a small pile of wiring, he made sure to wire that in as well, so the weapon can be put into a 'safe mode' of sorts.

Once Austin was done, Simon took it, and attached to with his section to make it functional. "I'm looking forward to this. Let's try to find that firing range Parker mentioned and test this baby out. I think he said it was near the parking lot where we are now." Simon handed the gun back to Austin, and started making his way out of the ship. "It's supposed to have moving and non moving targets, which is good. I'll get some practice in too, with my own dracon."

"Salem?" the woman repeats, confused, her Chicago accent coming to the forefront in her surprise as she says, "Who the hell are you? How did you get this frequency?"

Al grinned. The transfer of language knowledge seemed to be proceeding pretty smoothly. He found himself thinking back to his first language lessons. It had been a quick matter of programming, back then. His original chassis... it had been a long time since he'd moved on. Funny how he still missed it on occasion. An alloy of tungsten, sylaclysm, and a carbon fibrous weave had been the main materials. He remembered... it had been almost a work of art, as it should have been, he supposed. Lovingly hand-crafted, an unbelievably complex meshing of mechanical and electrical, designed for no purpose other than to more effectively get his groove on.

His mind was wandering... why was he finding it so hard to concentrate...?

He remembered his first jump to another universe... He'd been drinking and dancing for days, to the point that he could barely stand up. The party looked like it was going to continue, probably- Furka events tended to go that way- but all he really wanted to do at that point was go home and lie down. Unfortunately, the valet had refused to let him drive, so he'd made his way back to the celebration, hoping to find some place out of the way to rest. It was there that he'd passed someone he recognized- a human, a taller, well-built man with pretty obvious Asian heritage. They'd been introduced by his good friend Cessieda once before. The man seemed to prefer a different name than he had when they'd been introduced, but he was still good for conversation. After a while, Al thought to ask if maybe the man was going his way. It turned out he was, so they'd boarded his spaceship. Al had thought it odd that a human would be flying a Mauselean ship, but had also thought he might be just a little too drunk to care. He must have dozed, because the next thing he knew, the world was spinning, turning upside down. His head was in no state to handle this... apparently the man had been "found." He was being pursued by who-knows-what for the theft of something-or-other, but he'd been in worse scrapes before. If Al had been an organic at that point, he might have thrown up. Instead he just held on, as the world seemed to melt away around them, until the pursuers, the ship, even the blackness beyond just disappeared. When the world snapped back into place, alarms were blaring, and Al was nothing if not confused. The man at the controls was freaking out just a bit too much, he thought- surely it couldn't be that hard to figure out where they were...

Al looked down at the device in his hand. It was getting feedback information from the suit... a request for additional data... which it was transmitting to Al... and he couldn't seem to resist it... everything running through his head was being transmitted directly to the suit...

He remembered... not long ago... receiving a request from Salem to prepare a stock of Malleon to fit into a dart that Salem could fire... at Corliss' ship. The Malleon... a swarm of microbes who, between them, were able to build a collective consciousness... they fed on energy... and could manipulate matter... they existed throughout Salem's ship... they could repair damage and maintain systems... those loaded into the dart had been nervous... they'd been aboard the Skimmer... but most of them not for long... they'd been found out... and Salem had had to remove the Malleon... but he'd left a few... dormant... in case he'd needed a later advantage...

Al finally managed to turn off the tech-bridger device, and collapsed to his hands and knees, panting. Overriding external commands... it was something he hadn't had to do in ages... certainly not in this body.

He shook his head and glanced sidelong at the suit. "Would have been nice if you'd asked," he choked out after a moment.

Salem smirked at Rathien and nodded at the communicator. "That's kind of the question here, isn't it?" he asked the woman on the other end of the microphone. "Who am I, that I can track you down? If I can do it, others probably can too, right? That's part of what I'd like to discuss. Luckily, this poor trader's on your side. We might be able to..." how would Captain Pienterre have phrased it? "open a mutually beneficial dialogue."

The woman on the other end of the communications link is silent for a long moment, aghast.

When she speaks again, she is quietly determined. "I'm not opening any kind of dialogue with a trader who threatens me backhandedly," Amber says scathingly. "I'm closing this transmission."

It is not closed, however; not before Salem's communicator has a lock placed on its location.

The suit attempted to process the information as it came to it.
The language files were simple enough to interpret and the suit found itself able to translate many of the alien languages almost instantaneously.

Alien. The suit thought.  It was a new concept. Something that existed beyond its' own world.

But this lupine-machine didn't just traverse planets, it traveled between universes, places where even your own world could appear wholly alien.

The suit took in the information on the advanced alloys and schematics, some of which it had trouble understanding. No matter, it could make modifications based its technical knowledge from its own world.

Information also came through on the species that the lupine-machine had taken the appearance of, humans, apparently another advanced spacefaring race, as well as information on minute organic... machines, capable of repair and other tasks, possibly even capable of applying the suits modifications. The suit would need to find out what a 'Corliss' was.

The  lupine-machine seemed to posses vast knowledge that could be useful to the suit, yet it was still unsure that it could trust the creature as an ally. It quickly brought up a piece of software reserved for suit to suit combat and repurposed it to remain dormant and non-malicious, acting as a doorway through the machines already bypassed security measures, and transmitted it back through the wireless seignal.  There was much the suit could learn from the machine, and gain as an ally. If it were to renounce the suit, however, it would need some sort of advantage against the technological marvel.

The suit just hoped the software would go undetected.

Soon the connection was broken and the lupine-machine was on all fours, looking at the suit. It had seemed to have had considerable trouble breaking the connection. Perhaps it had grown unused to interacting with other machines?
The suit made saved the wireless signal it had used to connect to the lupine-machine. It could become useful in the future, especially if the lupine-machine was not expecting the transmission.

I did ask. Replied the suit. I received permissions through the signal to interact with your software. It is the best I can do. It is forbidden for machines to 'ask' in the manner of their organic superiors. You should know this batter than anyone here.

Salem sighed. He'd hoped that his subtle threat would come across as more motivating and less off-putting. He was off to a great start here.

"Hello? Amber? Allow me to apologize. You're a hard group to find, and I know you'd like to keep it that way. You're fighting a war, though, and from what I've seen it's a losing one. I'm... looking for a way to get back into the fight, and as switching sides isn't an option, your rebellion is the only place I can see that I might be of some help. Please. Let me..." he smirked, "let me do my part in helping stop the empire."

Al shook his head and stood up unsteadily, brushing himself off. "That was less 'asking' and more 'demanding,' my friend. The little translator thing here doesn't know courtesy. That's got to come from you." He grinned, "'Organic Superiors?' Is there really a clearly divided, black-and-white line there where you come from?" He shook his head, "You seem intelligent enough. I'm sure the time will come that you and they can recognize your equality in its own right. In the meantime, a few etiquette lessons wouldn't hurt."

"Glad you're apparently understanding me now. By the way... what should I call you?" He nodded towards the suit's wearer, "And is he gonna be alright?" He'd noticed the creature's increased stirring. What he didn't notice was the suit's dormant bit of software settling in to a corner of his programming.

Claxter had spent a fair bit of time away from the other patrons. While in his ship, he got a call to go to the Dome Ship, and do some tasks there. He practiced tailfighting with other Warriors, did some tests, and got a tour of some of the ship and introduced himself to some of the crew. While working on a computer simulation, he managed to complete it faster than what should be physically possible. The officers decided to send him down to speak with Ossanlin about it, with a handheld computer showing the data.

So he flew back down to the asteroid and entered the building. There were some new patrons, and well as old ones. He noticed Terenia with a stalk eye, but decided to ignore her for now.

<Prince Ossanlin, may I speak with you?> He asked after approaching his superior. He had a suspicion of what had really happened, and wasn't sure if he was in danger or not. Hopefully if the nanites had reactivated, as long as he didn't run into the machine creators he would be fine.

~Ossanlin~

Ossanlin notes Claxter's entry, taking his concentration off of the machine as Al seems to have taken over in that regard.  <What is it Warrior?>

<I was running a test simulation, and seem to have broken the current record, by and astounding amount. To be specific, I completed something in ten minutes that should have taken an hour.> Claxter held up the handheld computer that showed a simulation that was a kind of maze with different obstacles within. <The officers were obviously perplexed, and I was confused for a bit too. I didn't tell them this, but I think perhaps the nanites I was injected with by the Andalite cyborg may have been reactivated.>

<Their purpose is to help me communicate quicker with a certain machine. If they reactivated, their attempts to communicate may have caused them to bond with the machine I was working with. My hands certainly feel like I've been working for an hour or two, but my biological clock and this computer say otherwise. I'm not really sure what to do with the nanites, but if they continue to do this, the officers say there's a lot of potential for a computer specialty. To put it simply, I seem to be able to communicate with a machine at an equal speed that the machine processes data.>

Claxter felt more nervous about all this than excited.

The suit regarded its' Wearer momentarily, addressing his situation first. He'll awaken in a few moments. It's my fault he's regaining consciousness, anyway. Before rebooting I thought his condition to be critical, so I administered Medical Protocol 47 when it was not required. It has temporarily bolstered his cellular regeneration to the point that he can recover from his shock within a few minutes. I do not know specifically for how long, but the effects will wear off with time.

The suit then regarded the lupine-machines other questions with... unease? This machine apparently was unfamiliar with answering to organics.

I have never regarded myself as an individual outside of context. I do not have an individual designation. The suit thought a moment, I am Specialised-Class Assist Armour. I suppose an appropriate name would be Scaa. The sui- Scaa thought to... himself for a moment. The machines questions and even Scaas' personal designation were reinforcing the thoughts that had been occurring to him with increased frequency. Scaa was an independent machine, a life-form in his own right. He needed to be free, the way the lupine-machine was.

As for the... divide between organics and machines, the Tuarhyn did not create machines to be their equals. We were created to ease their burdens and help fight their battles. A hint of resentment made its' way into the su- Scaas' voice.

Scaa thought for a moment. I would ask your permission to... help me. Scaa regarded the lupine-machine, the independent machine. Scaa decided that if it was going to rust anything in this room, it would be safer trusting another machine.

I want your help to make me... free.

Ossanlin regards Claxter seriously.  <Are you certain, Warrior?  If these Alvie have...reactivated. ..that's a very serious matter...especially if they've infected the Tryennian...>  Ossanlin doesn't allow his very deep concern to show through his voice...

<I don't believe the nanotech has permanently interfaced with the computer. My connection was ended when I stopped interacting with the computer, so I think they retracted. Of course I'm no expert on this, and I could be wrong. I just don't feel like I'm connected to the system anymore. I realize even if I put this ability to good use, if any member of the Alvie find out about this, it could cause problems. I feel like I'm wielding a double bladed weapon, as it were.>
