After the word "captured" is uttered, Garreth raises his hand and looks away while shaking his head. He shuts out his words by busying his mind with his mental exercise. Luckily his mental Pazaak a soldier had taught him worked beautifully. When he senses that Raile has discontinued his tale, he states, "I'm sorry, I meant no disrespect, though whether or not you are mistaken, I should not know too much about my future. I would request you leave any history lessons out of our conversations."

Parker's face evens to a pleased, neutral expression. He bows his head and says, "Well it is rather understandable as she quit her previous employment from a boss she described as lethally unforgiving. May I ask how you came to be paired?"

"Ah, well," Esreth shrugs, exchanging Terenia's water for the bottle of beer the bartender has procured. "As with anything involving Terenia, there's a long, complicated answer and a rather more palatable one. Suffice it to say, after so many years with Efaen and the instincts of three different species floating around in her head, she found the silence a bit unbearable. Especially after certain events unfolded on base."

She smiles a little apologetically. "Terenia is requesting I avoid further detail than that, for the time being. It's still a bit of a touchy subject. Regardless, I had been pool bound for two years, so you can imagine I was pleased to accept her. She's a grouchy one, but endearing enough." Esreth winks.

~Raile~

Raile looks taken aback for a moment and then shrugs.  "As you wish."  He falls silent, occasionally sipping his drink.

Parker nodded, accepting the lack of information. He replies, "I understand slightly. I've only had two real encounters with her: first, when she arrived, getting personal information was an effort. When details of her situation became exposed, the others attempted to capture her. I was the only one who attempted to help defend her. Later, I responded to an attack and found her wounded and under duress. I removed her from that danger as well. After that, I left on a rescue mission and haven't seen her since. Though I'm sure you know all of this." He deepens his gaze into her eyes, speaking seemingly to the back of her mind, directing his next statement to Terenia, "I'm glad to see your situation has greatly improved..." he slightly ****s his head, "to a degree." He smiles at Esreth

Garreth asks, reflecting on the conversation before its digression, "A droid army? Who in there right mind has an army of only droids?"

As the woods exploded around Salem, he watched with a disconnected concern. He could die here, but it didn't seem to be his problem. Good thing he was already lying down, though. He halfheartedly drew his holstered gravity pistol, then found himself wondering what to use it for. His mind flashed to an image of himself, angry about... something... and Al's good-natured mocking of him.

<<You're such a Mr. Grumpy,>> he thought-spoke, imitating Al's tone pretty well, he thought. He stuck to thought-speech simply because the very thought of actually calling out made his throat hurt. <<The...>> what were they called? <<nano-thingies are good for you, too. Heal you up. Keep you healthy.>> He nodded to himself. That ought to explain it.

But another part of his brain was saying "Mr. Grumpy?" Even if he believes you about the link, he'd probably kill you just for that. I know I would.

He pressed his eyes shut and tried to concentrate on something besides the sea of snaking tendrils everywhere. <<Besides,>> he continued, a little more lucidly, <<is that really the kind of thing you want to risk testing? In this case either we both win or we both lose.>> His headache seemed to be getting worse...

"Oh, it's improved tremendously," Esreth says off-handedly. "How could it not, with me in it?" She grins, taking a small sip of beer. "As for her past, yes, that's one of the lovely side effects of living in her head. It's probably for the best, since I doubt I'd believe her story if I couldn't see it myself. She's had...an incredibly varied life in a rather short period of time."

<<That I don't like to dwell on,>> Terenia reminds Esreth, her internal voice grumpy.

Parker asks, "So how do you enjoy being inside a suit that is wanted by a truly evil man? Is it more exciting than your previous vessels?"

"You hardly 'got my hopes up,' sir," Serid murmurs in response to Ossanlin with a polite nod, waiting for him to finish speaking before he replies. "I wished to merely thank you for even considering an individual such as me as potentially capable of achieving such a rank, should it be deserved in the future. Most members of our military in ranks such as yours would dismiss even the thought of it."

He shifts his weight upon considering the War Prince's final question. "My only question is regarding my current assignment. What would you have me do before we depart?"

Esreth raises her eyebrows. "Everyone in the rebellion is wanted by a truly evil Empire," she says with a shrug. "Or, at least, a truly corrupt one. The Visser that imprisoned Terenia is much like any other that lets his power go to his head. Besides," she smirks a little, "accounts of his personal involvement may have been slightly exaggerated. Most of her abysmal time on that Blade Ship was spent in the presence of his guards and his torturers. They rarely interacted themselves."

She waves a hand dismissively. "Terenia's story is unique, but she's still a human, and not much different in that regard from past human hosts that I've had."

Parker nodded understandingly, "Well, I guess she's in good company then. So you've never been in the living Swiss Army knife, or the weird ape with the speech impediment?" He takes drink, grimaces and holds up his glass as he asks the bartender, "Ice, if you would."

~Ossanlin~

Ossanlin nods, listening to Serid.  <Your current physical form will inhibit you in cases where close-quarters combat are required, but an officer's true weapons are his mind and his men.  I am convinced you have the capabilities of possessing the former, it is the latter that will be difficult.>

He eye-smiles a bit and trots to his quarters aboard the Mirage, unlocking the door.  <Join me if you would please.  As far as duties before we return to the ship, it is merely a matter of situation.  Right now, there is no crisis or event that requires my attention or intervention.  You are free to do as you wish as long as you remain within the planetoid's atmosphere.  I would merely ask that you return to me and serve as you would in any battle-situation should the need arise.  I will tell you if it does.>

He closes his eyes as he waits for Serid to follow.  <I thought that since the bar seems to be fairly docile at the moment, and I am recharged, we could proceed with our first foray into righting your genome.  That is, if you wish to continue down that particular path...>

~Rathien~

Rathien snarls as Salem rambles on.  His ARC is honing in on life-signs.  He also sees broken twigs and scrapes in the dirt that likely have nothing to do with the light shot.  He slices underbrush out of his way with swift, succinct slashes of his blades before pausing near the hollow of a tree.  He bares his fangs as he considers the best way to approach what he assumes is Tobias's little hidey-hole.  He could toss an explosive inside the tree quite easily, his vision nearly fully recovered from its previous paralysis, but then he would likely never learn what had truly been inside the vial.

Suddenly it hits him...the swift recovery of his eyes and hearing, not to mention the absence of the bruises and painful ribs he should have from fetching up against that blasted tree trunk.  He had always been a quick healer, but not that quick, not without treatment.  His eyes widen with a stab of fear that manages to pierce through his rage.  Could Tobias have really told the truth?  Nanites...could they truly be controlled remotely?  If so, Tobias could've placed a collar and leash around the wolf's neck as if he was any other dog.  He snarls again, but in a mixture of fear and anger now, he caresses his own neck with the back of a fighting blade as if feeling the proverbial collar cinching down.

"You...you must be lying, you HAVE to be lying!"  He takes another step toward the hollow at the base of the tree.  "No one leashes me!  I belong to myself!"  Killing Tobias and ending his own Dream as well?  That might be a worthwhile trade, and yet Fate still did not sing her song.  He had gone against Fate in fighting this battle and he realizes the folly.  If what Tobias says is true...he roars in a combination of rage, frustration, and a hint of fear.  "Your death...will be sweet..."  He nearly whispers the words, taking another step toward the tree.  His feet and hands feel leaden...this could not be happening.

Raile shrugs and gestures with a hand, palm up.  "I cannot know what you will wish to know and what you will not.  Perhaps if I tell you who has decided to become Separatist, who's to say you will not do anything in your time to affect that outcome?  Who can say if time will not be forever altered in some unforseeable way?"

Garreth gave a sigh, "Fair enough, though being over 4,000 years in your past, I think you're safe from such problems. The only true issue, I find, is telling me information about my future, near-future. I'm not asking about specifics, really, I was commenting on the absurdity of having an army of constructs."

"Ape with a speech impediment?" Esreth repeats, laughing. "I don't think any Gedd would appreciate that, if they could grasp the concept. Yes, I had a training Gedd, as most Yeerks do. A Hork-Bajir as well, but briefly. Terenia is my third human, and I tend to prefer them."

She raises her eyebrows at Parker. "So, you got caught up in another dimension, huh? That must have been interesting. Can't say either of us have every had that misfortune, unless you count this place. Which I don't think is really any dimension."

Parker looks around and mentions, "Or every dimension." He smiles a weak smile that fades as the memories of his year stranded surface. One of the drawbacks of a trained memory is that you don't forget very easily. He gives a sigh and continues, all of his words are weighed with regret, no pride at all in his voice. It's obvious his actions during his time in the other universe disturbed him.

"Yeah, my abilities as a soldier definitely got me through that place. I worked my way through their underground. It's amazing what you can get when you can lift their strongest brute with a single hand. I was able to get my own ship and a crew. We had to do several... jobs to keep us fueled and fed. My only goal the entire time was to find a way to return here. I made an insane amount of random jumps, tried sabotaging our engine in a way we would survive but may still make it, I tried so many things and lost so many crew members who'd thought I'd gone crazy. All the crimes I committed... ... ... my entire life, I was raised and trained to uphold the law. What I had to do over there... Let's just say I finally found my way back."

Jocun was relaxing, listening to the conversation between the new rebel and Parker. This time the Yeerk was the more cheerful one than the host, unlike Aya and Terliss. It didn't matter much to him, though. He didn't really care what species a person was. If they were nice, he appreciated their company. He didn't interupt the conversation, though he was looking at them as they talked. He wondered how the fight outside would resolve itsself. Things had quieted down, which he took as a good sign. Or perhaps they were just too far away now to be heard.
