~Ossanlin~

Ossanlin snorts in derision in response to Efaen's comment about arrogance and bigotry.  <That's unfortunately yet predictably typical.  Such arrogance and close-mindedness is not at all uncommon in members of our species.>  He gives Efaen a meaningful look with his main eyes, trying to convey that his opinion that such is not a condition merely of officers, or only of males.

<This mission is important Efaen, but if normalcy is truly what you seek, I can still offer you a position aboard the Tyrennian.  Again, I cannot promise you combat, but at least you will not face the same prejudices on my ship as you have elsewhere.>  Ossanlin turns away from the lake, taking a few deep breaths of (for a wonder) fresh air, feeling much better than before.

<Fine then,> Terenia says, feigning disgruntlement. <What do you want to do, Mr. Fancy Computer Hookup?>

Zorish glances at the glass of water suspiciously before edging it towards him.

<<He'd be kind of cute if he didn't have that scar,>> Tamora chirps. Zorish's lips twist into an unconscious sneer.

<<What is with you and your sudden fascination in romance?>> he hisses. <<We came here for a purpose, or have you forgetten?>>

He raises the glass to his lips and takes a hesitant sip, figuring that if anyone here wanted to murder him outright he had already spoken with most of the culprits. How funny it would be, he thinks as he swallows the water, if we both met our death at this same dapsen bar but by completely different means.

"You are in a bar," Zorish says at last, lowering the drink and forcing Tamora's voice to come out as evenly as he can despite the alcohol on his breath. "A bar that, if I were a superstitious human, I would say was built by the hands of the devil himself. But, as I am not I can only assume that it is an unacceptable anomaly that is, nevertheless, here."

<I will be of greater use to you within the rebellion,> Efaen says. And I do not trust you, she adds silently. I'd rather live amongst the enemy I know than the one who smiles in my face and may not be an enemy at all, until it suits him. <If you do not wish for me to go, you are my Prince and I cannot refuse you. But it is my personal opinion, sir, that I will be able to have a greater impact over the course of the war if I proceed in this manner.>

She switches over to private thought-speak, in case there is anyone eavesdropping. <<Besides, my Prince,>> she says, <<I know you trust at the very least the Yeerk named Myitt, and your trust of the rebellion is an extrapolation of that. But is it not possible that, regardless of Myitt's good will, she is being deceived herself? If it is in the best interest of the People, then I will fight alongside this rebellion. However, I can also help to determine whether they will betray us or not, when the Empire is no longer a mutual enemy.>>

<<Not a bad guy, it seems,>> Illim remarks, effectively charmed by Mike's English accent. <<Ask him how he got involved at some point. I'm curious.>>

As Serid watches Jocun walk back into the building his eyes, if possible, narrow further as he remembers his conversation with Ossanlin. His Prince is right; there is no good reason for the Yeerk to offer the rebellion assistance. Either he is ignorant of how time is manipulated at this mysterious juncture or he is lying.

Corliss hesitates, reluctant to pull away from close proximity to Terenia.

<Yeah,> he says nonchalantly.  <Yeah, let's uh, let's go hook up to the computers for a bit.  I can whip your tail at Pong.>  With a burst of clicking laughter he shoots off towards the sleek metal edge of the pool.

"So tell me about yourself. How did you become a controller, and switch sides? What's the background on this rebellion?" Derrel said.

After getting his composure, Simon remembered Jocun had tried to make an agreement with Serid. Something about helping the rebellion to make sure it lasted through the war. He got up and went to Serid's table, but didn't sit down.

"Hey Serid. Have you thought much about my...offer?" He was going to say his leader's offer, but decided to leave it out. Though since his mannerisms were different, Serid might pick it up anyway. "Being in the Empire doesn't mean we aren't equality friendly." Jocun was bright and friendly, which he had trained himself to be for good PR. Simon was more reserved, and actually acted like most middle aged people would act.

<I feel like going back to the bar, Candice. You may come or stay.> Claxter said, and started making the trip back.

Keshin groans, rubbing his forehead. He was really hoping Ewa would at least have some kind of friend that needed his help. Oh, well. Maybe she was right about the Imperials being good clients. The only Imperial he'd seen though was Zorish. And he was absolutely not dealing with anyone even vaguely related to Terenia. "Well...ehrm...thank you for your help. We might be back around."

Keshin then sits up and looks around, abruptly noticing what has to be Corliss in the Bar. <What fortuitous timing, Joanne.>

<No kiddin'. Let's get 'is attention, huh?>

Keshin then wanders across the Bar to Corliss and smiles wryly at him. "Hey Corliss, old buddy old pal. Don't forget about our little deal. We are not going to be happy if Reven screws us, and the agreement is that we avoid you guys as long as the offer stands. Just making sure. How's life?"

Mar folds his arms behind his back with a wry grin. "Oh, I never said I was using technological means to do the jumping. But if you don't believe me, that's fine by me. I just won't have anything to do with you. I've done what I wanted to with Salem. Go ahead and knock him off."

Mar then wanders slightly ahead of Rathien toward the Bar. He doubts the bounty hunter will take his bait, but it was worth a shot. He's at least more interesting then most of the patrons in the place. Salem now has a connection to him, and the more he uses it the farther along Mar's tendrils get. He dimly wonders how long this mindset will last, and whether it even matters. He is a limited incarnation, and there are few connections he can make among such jaded folk.

Derrel looks Keshin up and down warily. Agreement? "What are you talking about? Some kind of 'protection' money?" He didn't like those types. Nosing into people's business to extort money or something else from them. "Who are you?"

Mike opens his mouth to respond to Derrel, when the smirking visage of the bounty hunter who had shot him and Corliss sidles up to their seats at the bar.

"Yeah, yeah, everything's cool with our plan," he replies to Keshin, adding, "mate," as a grudging afterthought.   "Life.  Heh.  I reckon it's going."  He sips his lukewarm beer and realizes perhaps it would be polite to make conversation.  "How are, um...how are you, then?"

The pilot sensed a quarrel in the woman's mind. More than mistrust, more than uncertainty; it was more than a being of two minds. It was as though there were two beings within her mind. He could sense the attraction and revulsion as two distinctly true reactions. He had met conflicted personalities in the mentally unstable, however these were not conflictions of one nature; these were two completely different natures. The pilot's face grew interested as she spoke. The mention of an anomaly was oddest to him. He asked, "What do you mean 'anomaly'; what sector is this? I thought we were in Hutt Space."

<Pong?> Terenia echoes, scrunch-thrusting her body with somewhat less grace to the computer console and smiling inwardly at his laughter. <I was always more of a Tetris girl myself.>

"I don't know Hutt space," Zorish says, an edge still in his voice even as he resigns himself to conversation with the stranger. "But this place isn't in any mapped sectors that I know of. From what I understand you'd have a hard time charting it. Something about a 'nexus of space and time'." He snorts derisively. "I think it's a load of bull, personally, but I can't deny that I've seen some fairly impossible things since arriving here."

The pilot had an incredulously shocked face when the woman said she didn't know about Hutt Space. How did anyone not know about the Hutts? When she mentioned a 'nexus', his face evened. That explains a lot. He sat back, satisfied that he was truly lost. He returned his attention to the woman, "Thank you. Do you mind if I inquire towards your disagreement with your friend? It seems to have affected you some. Apart from the alcohol, I mean."

~Ossanlin~

<I concur with your opinion on that matter Efaen.  Under the current circumstances you can indeed do the most good with the rebellion.>  He feels her withdraw, walls that may have been partially torn down thrown back up stronger than ever.  She refused to trust...perhaps she could no longer trust at all.  <I was merely attempting to take your personal feelings on the matter into account.>

<<And you are right about Myitt...she is the only sentient being I trust in the entire Galaxy.  The only one.  If I trusted the rebellion unconditionally, I'd have no need for your current station now would I?>>

He begins to move back toward the ships, feeling more refreshed than he thought he would.  Perhaps he'd be able to perform Terenia's operation sooner than he'd expected.  <I trust you've adequately fed?>

~Rathien~

Rathien raises both eyebrows.  The philosophers on Ildiar often spoke of beings who might be able to use only the powers of thought to accomplish many things, perhaps this Mar was not one to be trifled with.  He grunts a bit as the being walks away.  It would probably be best to leave that one alone.

Illim gives a snort of amusement. <<Alright, slow down, partner,>> he tells Derrel. <<Maybe she doesn't want you in her business; sounds like she made a deal with Reven.>> He watches Mike and Keshin; <<Sounds like our human friend has got this under control.>>

Serid gives Simon a sidelong look and sighs. "I am not in the rebellion," he tells him. "I merely have a tenuous connection to it. Answer me this, Yeerk," he says, turning to face him more directly. "What evidence can you give me that you are offering this assistance out of pure goodwill? It makes no sense; it could alter your reality."

<<I guess so. I'll just talk to him about it later. I'm not trying to be overly confrontational with the lady, though. Just asking. If she brushes me off, I'll button up.>>

Simon thought about it. Didn't Jocun have enough on his plate without worrying about another time or dimension? If it was his past, then why bother it? If it was another dimension, who was he to interfere?

"Some risks are worth taking, I suppose. As for goodwill, there isn't really anything to gain from dropping off free supplies, nor is there anything to gain from pretending to be nice when we could easily to set up an invasion force and start subjugating this place. I guess if we wanted to make sure this is another dimension instead of just the past, we'd have to look up certain events and see if they coincide with history. What year is this?"

Salem sighed when Rathien dropped back with him. He knew it wouldn't be that easy to get the drop on the hunter, but he could at least try.

He listened as Mar insinuated that he'd like Rathien to assassinate a "Crimson," with a twinge of jealousy. That job... a real assassination... that should be his. It'd been too long since he'd had a proper target. He'd never be nearly as zealous about the hunt as Rathien, but there was something satisfying about watching all the pieces fall into place. His jealousy only gave way when he reminded himself who was offering this particular job. An enemy of an immortal- one which an immortal was not capable of bringing to justice himself- was not someone to be trifled with. In all likelihood, this job would leave him dead or broken. Not the kind of thing he wanted or needed right now.

He shook his head, slightly, to clear it. Mar and Rathien had continued speaking- discussing Mar's ability to transcend universes.

He grinned at Rathien, "There are a lot of strange things in this multiverse, Ildari. You believe in some great guiding hand of fate, I'd think you'd at least be willing to accept the possibility of things beyond your experience." He quickly looked the hunter up and down- guaging the being's readiness, his weapon placement, the distance to the bar door- anything that might allow him to get an upper hand. If he were quick... no, not now. Not yet. Too much risk.

Though, since Rathien seemed intent on staying in the vicinity of the bar... he sent a series of thought-speak commands to his ship. The ramp slid shut, and- in his head, audible only to him- he began to hear a series of loud beeps. Overly loud, in fact. He grabbed his head and clamped his eyes shut for a moment, until he could get the command to his ship to decrease the volume. "Damn default," he muttered.

He turned to Rathien and shrugged, attempting to give off an air of arrogant nonchalance, "If you'll excuse me, hunter, I believe I had some people to help." He turned to Al, "Lead the way." As the two of them walked through the bar's doors, he noted that the beeping in his head got slightly slower- directly proportional to his proximity to Rathien. The system was far from fail-safe, of course, and would likely cut out if his ship managed to lose track of the hunter for a short time, so he'd still have to be alert. Giving the hunter the chance to kill him twice was unacceptable- let alone in one day. At least this is one more level of security, he thought.
