"All I need to know if where the signal is coming from so I can send one there. I don't really need the code broken." Temrash told Al. He considered sending the information to one of his own computer people that was better than he was.

Sapttus followed, feeling slightly tense. Or.. maybe it was Jasper. Why, he wasn't exactly sure.

"I'm hoping you'd find them somewhat useful. I really don't know though, since I have no clue where or when you're from. I'm uh, still kinda new to the whole 'alternate universe' concept."
"Part of me is still waiting for Captain Kirk to come by..." Jasper added.
"I have classified blueprints available to me, of high-ranking Yeerk vessels, and other facilities. I could make those available to you,  assuming they would be of any value to you..." <<Oh yeah, I forgot about those. Man, I'm not sure if I can still do that...>> <<Yes, you can.>> <<But...>> <<I'm right here. In your head. I know full well you can.>> <<Okay, okay... >> Jasper felt a little nervous now.

"I'm looking for uh... medical supplies."

<<Does that really count as 'supplies'?>>
<<You humans have such stupid language, how should I know?>>
<<Don't ask me. I failed English, remember? I just figured a vaccine might count, but... I don't know about this...>>
<<Well, we'll clarify if we need to when the time comes.>>

"Right, gotcha," Al said over the comm link to Temrash. "Right now they're basically the same thing to me. Location information is hidden in the encryption, if it's there at all. These paranoid types have a tendency to find ways to do without it. It's crazy... I don't get it, but I'm good at breaking through it. If that transmission was to the rebel base, it should only take me another couple of communications to get the info, no sweat. If I can break the code from just one transmission, you'll be the first to know. Or... well, the second. After me." He laughed halfheartedly at his own stupid little joke.

He then shut off the communicator and turned in his chair. He called down the open ramp to Salem, "Hey, you gonna introduce me?"

Salem raised his eyebrows as Jasper described what he had, and what he wanted.

"Who's Captain Kirk?" he wondered quietly, before shrugging to himself and addressing Jasper more directly. "That sounds like very interesting information," he said. "If it's as good as you make it sound, I'm going to need to come up with some pretty valuable medical supplies to make it worth your while."

When Al called down the ramp, Salem rolled his eyes and gestured up the ramp for Jasper's benefit, "Jasper, that's Al, my pilot. Al," he called up the ramp, "this is Jasper."

"You're welcome to come aboard and see what I have to offer in the way of medical supplies. You're a Yeerk, right?" he guessed. Jasper didn't strike him as a Yeerk name, but he didn't claim to be an expert, and the guy was offering Yeerk blueprints. "I might have some things you'd appreciate. You imperial?"

"Thanks Al. Hopefully Corliss will hang around long anough to make another call or two to Reven. If he doesn't, we'll have to make do with what we have." Temrash said. "Unless Myitt shows back up or something. Though if Myitt does show back up, I should have an easier time reasoning with her. Corliss has gone loopy over Terenia, and since I'm not in love with her like he is he's shut me down entirely."

"Yes, wait Ossanlin, there's one other thing," Corliss says hurriedly.  "Besides the situation with Efaen, well...it's like Terenia has said.  This might be her only chance to regain the only thing that's keeping her sanity.  Will you please consider it?"

He glances up at the ceiling.  "Sorry," he hisses to Terenia, looking abashed.

"Howdy..." Sapttus muttered, giving a half-hearted wave to the guy up the ramp.
<<No, now come on, you can do a better 'howdy' than that.>>

And now it was time to come out and say it. Sapttus couldn't beat around the bush anymore, and there was no way for him to get his cure if he lied about it now.

"You'll have to pardon me, Salem. I've been holding back just a bit. I am indeed a Yeerk. Allow me to introduce myself: I am Sapttus 2911. Jasper is my host."
"Although I'm more like a party host, or something. Sapttus gets annoying sometimes, but I'm fine with him up in my head."
"I'm not sure what you mean though... Imperial? Is there... an alternative?"

Al waved down the ramp to Jasper with a warm smile, then transmitted to Temrash, "That's kinda what Salem was saying. That Corliss was impossible to reason with. He also threw in a few choice words that I didn't think were necessary. Anyway, if we do our job right, you'll never have to deal with him."

At the bottom of the ramp, Salem shrugged, "Apparently there is. On this rock, anything's possible." He started walking backwards up the ramp of the ship, so he could continue speaking to Jasper as he walked, "So, should I call you Sapttus then? And... would it be prying if I asked why you avoided introducing yourself as a Yeerk? Most Yeerks here are pretty open about who and what they are."

He glanced over his shoulder up into the ship- the outside of the craft appeared to be a featureless ellipsoid, blacker than black and cold to the touch, and the inside would appear to be the same sort of featureless style, but the gray, ovular room was lined with what looked like stainless steel shelving units. In the center of the room was the chair in which Al was sitting, and there were various other surfaces in the ship that seemed to just rise organically from the floor- all still dominated by the shiny, gun-metal gray color. On the walls of the craft, there were a few brightly-colored images that seemed to represent certain spacecraft and people outside. Nearly every raised surface, from the shelving units to the tables and benches protruding from the floor, was covered in a spectacular array of items and artifacts from dozens of different civilizations.

Once he reached the top of the ramp, he turned to face Al and asked, "Where're my little friends?"

Al jerked his thumb over at what appeared to be a work bench situated in the middle of the floor, "They're a little antsy, but they're ready to go."

Salem walked over to the bench and picked up what looked like a small copper tube with a point on one end, and sealed off on the other. It was no bigger around than his little finger, and not much longer. There was writing on it, in a language Salem himself couldn't read, and he knew most people on this planetoid would never have seen. He smirked as he turned it over in his hand.

Without turning around, he called over his shoulder to Sapptus, "Want to look at some of my medical supplies? If you'd like to chat some more before making a deal, I have some business to attend to elsewhere in the shipyard."

Ossanlin sighs before looking  back at the communicator.  <Look, I'm sorry but I can't try to revert Terenia right now.  It would require a large amount of energy reserve and I'm dealing with a possible fight in here.  I have to save what little reserves I have at the moment.  Until this situation is resolved or until I have more energy stored, I cannot risk it.  You'll have to wait awhile...it will take a few days for me to store up enough energy to perform the procedure without risk to myself.>

<<This definitely isn't a Bug Fighter, now is it?>>
<<Now what gave you that impression?>>
"It depends on who you're talking to. There's two of us here, and Jasper can speak for himself. And... you could say there are people we wouldn't like to find us here. It's not like we're being hunted or anything, but we aren't exactly on vacation here, either. Not everyone is acceptant of my kind, and not everyone agrees with a Yeerk being friends with his host. We just wanted to test the waters first."

Jasper look around while the two talk. He's trying to commit all of this to memory. He knew he wouldn't be hear for too long, but it was just so ... fascinating. Look at all the cool junk on the walls! This was like an antique shop on steroids! <<No, we can't touch anything...>> Sapttus had to remind him. <<Darn.>>

"Of course. We wouldn't want to keep you waiting. I'd take up your offer to look around, but I'd have no clue what I'm looking at here."
"This stuff is just too cool. Where'd you get it all from?" Jasper broke in. "Oh, I uh, don't mean to intrude..."
"We'll walk with you, if that's alright. Should give us more time to work out a deal."

<<This is too easy.>> Sapttus thought.

Salem turned and smiled in response to Jasper's question. "My stuff comes from all over the universe. Multiple universes. I've been drifting between alien cultures for longer than I'd care to admit. I um..." he paused, still not sure who he was addressing when. "I think I'll just keep calling you Jasper for now. It's easier on me. Besides, there seems to be a bit of an anti-imperial streak among some of the bar's patronage, so it might be smart to keep your profile low."

He bent down, pulled up his right pant leg, and unstrapped what looked like a small gun made out of pieces of copper pipe. It was crossed with the same sort of writing that was on the tube he'd grabbed. He pushed his pant leg back down and started walking back down the ramp.

"Alright, we'll keep talking," he said, sliding open a chamber on the 'gun' and pulling out a tube that looked almost identical to the first, save some of the writing, and a series of black bands. He was careful not to touch the tip. "So what kinds of supplies are you looking for? I have Heprumei genetic and cybernetic stuff that would make most species drool with envy." He stuck his new tube inside the gun's chamber and closed it with a click and a soft hiss. Now at the bottom of the ramp, he turned to face Jasper. "Or a few things from the Janapa or the Pemalites that might be right up your alley."

Terenia's heart plummets. She hadn't really been aware of how much she wanted this chance, and the overwhelming sense of desperation that she feels when Ossanlin pushes her request aside is surprising.

<I can't wait,> she says, her 'voice' coming out harsher than she intends it to. She can't really help it, - the only emotion she is any good at portraying is anger - but her tone probably won't do much to help her cause. <Corliss needs to go back to the base. What am I supposed to do, sit in a baggie and wait for you on the bar counter? It's not like I have my own ship anymore thanks to that dapsen old host of mine. I don't have a host right now, I don't have anywhere safe to go and they'll leave without me.> The more she goes over her list of obstacles the more desperate she sounds.

<<Corliss...>> she pleads.

Efaen says nothing as Ossanlin speaks privately on the com link. Instead, she uses the time to ruminate over the recent events. She was dreading the idea of joining the Yeerk rebellion. The thought of living with the slimy beasts made her skin crawl. But Corliss had had a point. Making a difference in this war required action; swift, decisive action that she would be unable to carry out aboard a Dome Ship or in quarantine.

It was the honorable thing to do.

Claxter made it inside the bar and ordered a drink in a dish. He chose a spot away from his Prince and fellow Warrior, and tried to enjoy his drink.

<If you have to leave immediately, we'll have to do it some other time.  I simply can't risk using energy right now what with the threats on my life by what appear to be superhuman beings.  Though I am glad you did not ask before this individual threatened me...going through with the procedure then would've put me in a very...compromising ...position right now.>  Ossanlin sighs.  <I am not withdrawing the offer...I believe others beyond yourself would stand to benefit from my attempt at reverting your own form...I am merely delaying it.  You will simply have to wait, there is no other option.>

Corliss shrugs helplessly, although Terenia cannot see it.

"I don't know what else to do, love," he says to the pool communication system.  "Save stopping whoever these people are from threatening Ossanlin."

He turns back to the open screen linking to Ossanlin's communicator.  "Listen, mate, do you reckon these idiots who are threatening you would be so bold if you had a Skimmer ship on your side?" Corliss's grin is lit up by the cool green of the holoscreen.

"Or a few things from the Janapa or the Pemalites that might be right up your alley."

Jasper almost literally drooled. Salem's stuff had to be as cool as it looked. All he wanted to do was see how some of it worked, what it did, what it was for. Was that too much to ask?
<<Yes. It is.>>
<<Come on... Don't you want to check it out too?>>
<< Well of course, but that's not something we can do right now. Take a good long look. This might be all we're gonna get.>>
<<Oh trust me, I am.>> He'd kept his gaze set on one particular set of shelves, trying to make a mental picture, though he doubted he'd be unable to recreate it truthfully.

"Jasper works for me. I mean, for us. That's what we normally do anyways. I think his mother would not only be confused if we had this conversation with her, but she might just stop breathing all together."
"He's right. She would."
"And I'll take your advice about keeping our cover. I appreciate it."

<<Are you looking at the thing he's toying with strapped to his leg? It looks like a tranquilizer.>>
<<I have no clue what that is, but it isn't nearly as interesting as these ->>
<<I was more worried about if it was a weapon. Truth be told, we hardly know the guy. We should stay alert. Both of us.>>
<<Oh. Oh right. Good idea. But... I dunno, I kinda think this guy's alright. Let's just not cross him, and well, I think we'll be okay.>>
<<Here's hoping you're right, Jasper.>>

"I'm looking for ...." Sapttus couldn't find the right way to say it. "I suffer from a somewhat unique medical condition." He felt so exposed laying it out in the open for a complete stranger. But, Salem had shown to have some interesting things under his possession. "I haven't had much luck correcting it myself..." He paused, not sure how to continue. It was hard convincing himself to. He wanted to hold back, but how could he get what he wanted - no, needed - if he wasn't able to ask for it? He followed Salem down the ramp, and Sapttus held up his hands, blocking the sudden brightness. <<See? It's too bright! Why won't you wear the glasses? That's what they're for!">> <<Because I hate them. That's why.>> <<You're unbelievable.>> Jasper sighed.
