On the naked comment, Kasey dutifully leaves the room, and returns with another pair of her brothers bike shorts. She tosses them to Jas. "You should be able to morph those."

She sits back down, and leans against the bed. She rubs her eyes.

"We need to go find this Andalite. However, you two are not use to us unless you're going to be able to morph. I say someone takes them to get morphs, and the rest of us search for the alien." She looks up at her friends, a blank expression on her face. "We can search for the cube later, or maybe Jenny can find it."

Reece shakes his head. "If Alec remembers where the box was, and the Yeerks are busy searching for the Andalite, they should be able to retrieve the cube without morphs, at least as long as they have someone with them who can either kick or haul ass if things go south. And if we wait too long, we risk something happening to the box, and that could be the difference between getting it easily and not being able to get it period, I think."

"I believe you that I'm in the yearbook, what I'm having a hard time with is that this stupid device just happens to lead us right to the doorstep of other morphing people.  People who seem to know a little bit about us, people I don't recognize."

Sam sighs.  "We found the box in a weird *ss facility that Jethsa helped us break into, using her technology.  Just getting the damn thing nearly killed us, but I guess that's the sort of crazy funk you're in when an alien asks you for help.  Yeah, man, I'd say that that blue box thing is pretty important.  The Yeerks probably want something like that in their possession."  Sam glances briefly at Alec.  "So you should tell us how to find it.  I don't know how to get in touch with you guys, besides your address, so what if we get split up?  I think I'm going to need some time to figure out all of this morphing stuff, but what's more important to me is finding Jethsa, and that damn box, before that bug-eyed TIE fighter or whatever it is comes back.  So I want to go find the box."

She crosses her arms and looks at Reece.  "Yes, she hid her ship about a mile from the lean-to we helped her build in the woods.  I could probably bring you there.  There were...three other creatures in that ship.  All dead, except for Jethsa.  At least, that's what she told us.  We stumbled across her ship, she wouldn't let us see anything, or do anything but find the box."  She pauses, shifting her weight.  "It's been a long day."

Reece nods. "If the Yeerks get the box, they've got the one trick we have up our sleeve, and then we're toast-zilla." He looks back to the kitchen clock, tingling with anxiousness. "We wanna act fast. I'm pleased as peaches to be a body guard for you guys if you haven't got morphs to defend yourselves."

"So the Yeerks don't have the morphing power, then."  Sam nods faintly.  "Right, we're going to need backup, we don't have a lot of time.  Unless..."  She shakes her head.  "This morphing thing, do you just...touch an animal, and think about it?  Jethsa said we just had to focus, concentrate on the animal, and it will become sort of dormant."  She scratches an arm nervously.  "Maybe I could try it.  At least touch something to be able to morph into it, in case I need to."  Part of her was still in disbelief, even after seeing it happen to Jas and these kids.  "I don't exactly have a zoo of wild animals at my disposal, though."

Kasey shrugs. "Fine, Reece. If their faces are seen, then we're all screwed. I'm not sure Alice's people would be willing to help them considering they stole the box from them, so if they're seen, the Yeerks will find them. It makes more sense to me to have them go acquire something useful so they can have morphs ready if we do end up encountering the Yeerks, while the rest of us search for the missing Andalite." Kasey leans back against the wall, closes her eyes and rubs her temple.

Reece holds his hands up, palm out, exhales pointedly. "Whoa! Noted. But we can't deny that time is of the essence here. Jas has got a snake, and I've got Miller so any such legless woodland animals can hitch a ride with me, and human things can be done without the threat of retalliation. Er, except for towards Miller, maybe." Reece shifts uncomfortably. "Still- we've got a dog here, right? And Alec knows where the box is? Let's say Miller takes your dog for a walk through the forest, happens to recover a piece of alien super-technology, perhaps the kind that is blue and cubular and instrumental to keeping Earth from going all Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the two make off back here, all perky as polkadots, and no one yells at anyone." Reece pauses for breath and a smirk that betrays only the slightest hint of cruelty.

Kasey opens her eyes, and stares at Reece for a moment, a look of disgust crossing her face. "Wow. So, it's okay to lead them to Miller, then? I get the 'better them than us' mentality, but I can't believe you're so willing to just give up a fellow human being when there are some incredibly easy ways around having to do so. And besides, we don't know that the Yeerks aren't out there just waiting to snatch someone. I say those of us who can fly, fly in. And these two go acquire some useful morphs."

"Right, Miller's obviously a bad plan- a bit of thinking out loud here, thanks. Brainstorming, if you've heard of it. But hey, if you'd like to have a- ahem." Reece considers a nasty comment, clears his throat, rubs his eyes, and breathes out slowly. When he opens his eyes, he addresses the group as a whole, but doesn't look directly at Kasey. "Bird morphs are a good idea if Alec can tell us how to get to the box without coming with. Otherwise, he should morph the dog or something, because we'll need him. If the Yeerks or whatever show up, those of us with strong morphs can distract them while Alec runs back here. Assuming Alec thinks he's up to it." Reece looks towards the newcomer, pleadingly.

"And the other two? They're not staying here if we leave." Kasey responds in an even voice, attempting to compromise with Reece. "They'll need something to do, and they're not useful to us if they're not able to morph. I still say that one of us takes them to go acquire some useful morphs. We could acquire a trainer or something at the gardens, morph the trainer, the other two can morph bugs, we can carry them in, they can de-morph and acquire, and then we can carry them back out in bug morph. It's really up to them, though. We can't exactly tell them what to do, or make them tell us where the cube is."

Torrence watched the exchange between Reece and Kasey as though watching a tennis match.

"Wow." She stated blandly.  "So we have like, three options? Run for Jethsa, run for the cube or hit the Gardens?  But its like, the middle of the afternoon. Won't be as easy for them as it was for us."

She nodded to Reece. "But Reece's Miller escort might help."

The ship suddenly beeped, calling Vincent's attention to a video feed. Glancing over, he noted that two creatures were moving through the woods.  The creatures were definitely odd- sort of like walking blade monsters.  The pair moved together, fanning around the area around the ship.

"Uhm...hi...we're still here.  Do we get a say in our own fates or is it just up to you?  Tch...kids."  Jas rubbed his forehead, the bike shorts laying at his feet.  He picked them up gingerly.  "I'm sincerely hoping these have been washed...much as I like putting on another guy's skin-tight clothes I'm usually not too interested in having someone else's bodily fluids near my body unless I at least know their name first."  He shrugged and twisted up the bike shorts, tucking them in behind his belt.  Even though almost all of these people were now intimate with his bodily architecture in full, he wasn't about to strip of his own volition in front of them.  Not right now at least.

"First off, you're talking about sneaking into the zoo aren't you?  Pretty sure there's gonna be a few people weirded out if they see some guy in bike-shorts form out of some strange, hideous blob inside the tiger-cage.  You're right, if we're going to be effective, we need versatile animals.  Predators, fliers, runners, insects, aquatic....but it's something that would probably best be done at night and after hours.  Alec at least should go along to show someone to the cube, and I should go along to guide you to the ship."  After a short pause he looked over at Sam and saw the look she was giving him.  "And Sam too," he added somewhat sheepishly.  "But you need to find something to acquire Sam...they're right about showing your face.  And Alec too.  When we get things straightened out with the cube and Jethsa, we can hit the zoo tonight if you don't mind."

Jas went to lean against an empty wall of the small room, chewing his gum quietly.  What the hell was he talking about?!  Was this all just a matter of course now?  He absent-mindedly fingered the switch-blade in his pocket as he thought.  'I need some alcohol to take the edge off...fast.'

Eddie, in his appartment. Alice, in Kasey's house.
« Reply #612 on: June 16, 2009, 04:46:40 AM »
My phone beeped. I picked it up to read the new SMS:

'Yeah, we're still meeting. Left Kasey's house, a few houses over now.  Look for Kasey's dog. Call me when you get here if you can't find us.'

Hmm, ok, so I hadn't missed much then. She didn't answer my question of car vs air, so I guessed it didn't matter which I picked. Then again, even if my Harpy Eagle morph could carry my wheelchair easily, it wouldn't exactly be subtle. Without my wheelchair, I couldn't get around very well after demorphing, so I decided car would be best.

I grabbed my keys from where I usually kept them: My only competition-trophy from my old trials-riding days. I smiled as it caught my eye and reminded me of the day I'd won it. Well, 3rd-place wasn't exactly winning but it had gotten me a trophy for my efforts.

This in-turn reminded me of my fateful accident, and the machine I'd been riding at the time. The mangled wreck had almost been scrapped, but for some weird reason I'd kept it as a reminder. It was in a lock-up I owned several blocks away from my appartment and I hadn't been there to look at it for several months now.

My nostalgic smile turned into a grin as I realized that when I got my legs working again there'd be no reason I couldn't hop back on a bike. Granted not that bike, at least not in its current state. I'd been told the engine was still intact and that theoretically the bike could be rebuilt, but I hadn't really been listening at the time, considering I'd been told I'd never regain the use of my legs. - Little did those doctors know that I'd eventually be gifted with alien morphing technology that fixed my spine for me!

The only things in my lock-up were the twisted wreck that had once been my pride-and-joy, and various mechanical tools which I still used once in a while to fix something on my car. Still, it had been a while since my last visit and I could only hope nobody had broken in and stolen anything...

I shook my head to clear the nostalgic fog and get back to the present. Keys in hand, I opened my window so Pentium could come and go as he pleased - I was on the fifth floor and there were suicide-bars outside the window to prevent any burglar gaining entry that way anyway. Of course, that had never stopped Pentium; He easily fitted between the bars, where he could prowl the narrow ledge as far as the outside fire-escape that he used to get to the ground. It still amazed me that he showed no fear negotiating that narrow ledge - Apparently its 3-4 inch width may as well be a mile, so far as cats are concerned.

I petted him goodbye and he gave me an annoyed look that reminded me, in no uncertain terms, that he still did not like being petted while he ate. He didn't hiss though, as he would have done if anyone but me had tried that.

About 6 minutes later, the lift came to a halt with a BING and the disembodied voice announced that I'd reached the parking-level. I wheeled over to the first space - A disabled-bay that had essentially become my own private parking space, considering I was the only wheelchair-bound resident using this carpark.

After I folded myself and my chair into the black Triumph Acclaim, I picked up my mobile phone and sent a message to all my new morphing-buddies:

'I'm on my way 2 K's now. NE1 need lift? Let me kno by rply.'

I smiled at the message I'd tapped out, hoping nobody minded 'txt-spk' shortening of certain words. That sent, i started the engine and drove out of the parking structure on my way to Kasey's neighbourhood.

Hmm... Andalite technology, of course, but still pretty advanced for them... An active sensor, eh? Well, if the Chee hadn't picked up its outgoing signal while the complex was robbed, then it was unlikely the Yeerks would be able to pick up on it. Still, it was curious that this device had apparently led them to this exact address... What was it designed to detect?? I guessed I'd have to ask this 'Jethsa' about it when, or indeed if she got rescued and was conscious enough to answer.

I got a reply back from the Chee, summoning me to the complex ASAP. I did NOT like the tone of their request, it didn't bode for anything good.

[Shall I collect the box on my way and bring it back with me?] I replied, standing up from where I'd sat and making my way to Kasey's bedroom-door.

Everyone's cellphones beeped (except for the three newbies) as I started walking; It was a text-message from Eddie. I read the SMS then caused my cellphone to ring, pretending I was getting a phone-call from 'Jenny', and 'answered' it.

"Hi Jenny, what's up?... I'm needed back there?... Oh sure, just a second." I covered the microphone with one hand as I addressed the room en-mass:
"I've got to go help Jenny with something. She hasn't told me what it is, but she requested me alone so I suppose it's to do with one of her 'friends' you're not 'supposed' to know about yet. I'll try to hurry back, but don't wait-up: Jethsa needs you. Oh, and Eddie's on the way in his car - He could probably drive people to The Gardens if that's what you decide. Still, having them acquire Reggie anyway is a good idea - He may not look like a fighter, but all dogs can fight when needed; They were predators once, after all. It'll also help protect their human identities, should you encounter Yeerks." I removed my hand from the microphone and spoke into my cell again:
"I'm on my way now." I didn't bother sending this message to the Chee for real though, I'd wait for their answer about the box first. I ended the fake-call and put my cell away as I reached Kasey's bedroom door and started through it.

Reece nods at Kasey. "That's not a bad idea. Miller works the night shift, so he and I shouldn't run into each other. I know sometimes Zoos will let blind kids in to pet the animals- or at least, once at boy scouts, someone told us they let Helen Keller pet a lion. If that's a universal thing, or if we can pretend it is, we might have the beginning of a plan." He begins to pace. "I'd need to sneak into wherever the security guards keep their stuff and see if I can snag a uniform..." He pauses, listens to Jas's response.

"The age thing's not getting us anywhere, man. But obviously you don't have to go get new morphs if you don't want to. And sending a team after her ship isn't a bad idea." He frowns. "Trouble is, I feel like we've got-" Reece was cut off by some obnoxious, screeching noise coming from his pile of clothes across the room. He strides over and picks up his pants, which the noise seems to be coming from, and rolls his eyes. He begins to pull on his slacks and mutters, "Some nimrod just tried to text my beeper."

"You have a beeper?" Sam wonders aloud.  "Man, I don't even have a cellular phone."  She shakes her head and takes a breath, ambition overtaking her prior fear.  "Anyway, here's what we've gotta do.  We need to take you to the cube--" She jerks a thumb at Alec.  "--and the ship, so how about for now I just morph somebody's dog or cat or whatever?  I guess it'd be nice if someone had a bird.  Quicker, at least.  If not, screw it, I'll pull a hooded sweatshirt over my head.  Jas and I can take you to the ship, maybe that's where Jethsa ended up.  But we need to leave, like, right now."  She was mildly surprised at how familiar all of this was becoming.  Morphing and aliens and blue cubes, oh my.
