<Oh, man, my clothes, they're still in your bathroom,> says Sam worriedly.  <I guess if I need to demorph then I need to demorph, but let's try and make this less than two hours, okay?  Torrence, Kasey, are we ready to go?>

Christina excused herself and morphed in the hallway, already wearing her borrowed morphing outfit.  The second time around the Condor instincts were less surprising, although she still felt the odd urge to go down to the kitchen and root around.

<I'm ready!> She announced.  <Is there a window open somewhere? >

Scurrying along on her big feet, she found the bath room window open.
<Pay dirt in the bath room!> she announced. <Any big birds, here we go.>

After an awkward hop onto the toilet and then the sill, she flung herself out of the window.  More prepared to surrender control to the bird brain, she flew out of the window, towards the Forrest.

<I'll wait for you guys in the Forrest.>

Torrence
Forrest Falcon

Quote
<Torrence?> I asked, hopeful my guess was correct. My thoughtspeak was fully open, not directed only at the bird I'd encountered.
<Yeah, its me.> Torrence replied, before realizing she didn't know if her 'voice' was the same. <Ah, yeah, its Torrence.  Sorry if I scared ya, there.  Are you ready for some fun?  We're going to go searching!>

To Sam's question, she replied privately to Sam, Eddie and Kasey.
<Yeah, I'm ready. I found Eddie.  He could come with us, if he wants. How about it, Eddie?>

Chee Compound

Alice,  The same stern voice that had answered Alice's Chee net inquiry before greeted her as she entered the compound.

We became concerned when you spent several hours away from the compound.  I've shared your report about encountering different morph capable humans.  Do you believe that the Andalite gave them the power, and if so, that there is truly an Andalite on Earth?

Jethsa
Andalite Ship/ Vincent

<Human?> The Andalite called again in Vincent's head.  She feebly tried to stand, but found herself unable.

<My ship is signaling me that there are beings in our proximity. Can you see what they are doing?>

Kasey stands up, and walks into the bathroom, collecting Sam's clothes. She also grabs Jas's pile, and brings both into her closet. She puts the two piles of clothes down on the floor, and picks up the gun, staring at it for a moment, before shoving it behind a shoebox on the top shelf.

She re-enters the room, flings open her bedroom window, and strips her outer clothing, revealing her morphing clothes. She begins to concentrate, quickly taking the shape of a red-tailed hawk. She responds to Sam and Torrence, <Ready. Where's Eddie?> She stretches her wings, and flutters up to the window sill.

<Lock the door behind you, guys.> She says to the remaining morphers.

<Awesome.  Okay.  Let's do this,> says Sam, trotting around Kasey's house to the front door.  She scratches at it lightly, whimpering.  The real Reggie is sitting nearby.  He tilts his head, as if confused.

As I entered our compound, I switched my hologram back to my usual Alice form. As soon as my usual hologram appeared, I was once-again contacted by the same Chee-Net 'voice'.

[Yes, I do believe there is an Andalite here on Earth. A female one, judging by the name I was told she answered to - Jethsa. And the 3 Humans we encountered definitely have the ability to morph: Every Chee knows what that implies; They would have to have directly encountered an Escafil device and a morph-capable being or Chee to activate it. We know no Chee was involved, which leaves just two possiblities: Visser 3, or a free Andalite. If the Visser had a cube, the war would already be lost, which leads me to conclude that there HAS to be an Andalite involved, AND one who blatently disregards the law of Seerow's Kindness.] I answered, [Our morphers are currently setting out to retrieve the Escafil and, with any luck, rescue this Jethsa person too. I would have joined them, but received your summons to come here instead.]

I made no effort to disguise the fact that I would have preferred to help our morphers rescue the Andalite than come to the compound, yet I had come anyway because I was still a loyal Chee.

The bird replied in thoughtspeak that she indeed was Torrence and that I'd guessed correctly.

<Hi everyone.> I thoughspoke openly, <Alice gave me the 4-1-1, but it seems I've missed some exciting stuff. I've been told there's two teams going after different goals, the Escafil team and the Andalite-rescue team. I don't know which team is after which goal, but I REALLY wanna meet an Andalite, so I'd like to join the rescue-group, if that's ok?> I asked Torrence, though I still wasn't using private thought-speak, so anyone could answer really.

I caught the scent of Dog in the house and my heckles rose once more. <Um, Kasey? Do you, by any chance, own a dog?> I asked her, nervously, <I'm in Domestic-Cat morph right now, so I hope if there's a dog in the house that he's not gonna start chasing me...> I trailed off. It was easy to tell from the scent that the dog was male, not female.

I glanced around with my keen feline eyesight, and my eyes alighted on a clock. I automatically focussed in to read what time it was, as I sat my rear end on the carpet.

Vincent, Andalite Ship...
« Reply #635 on: June 19, 2009, 07:23:09 PM »
Hearing the voice in his head the first time Vincent nearly jumped out of his skin.  But before he answered he wanted to get the object that looked like a gun just to be safe, for himself at least.  He hesitated for a moment before laying the sheet back over the dead andalite as close to as it was before.  He then walked over to the table with the energy gun or what he now assumed to be one and again hesitated before taking a hold of it.

Holding it in his open hand he didn't think it looked that deadly but then again neither did a gun.  It was the knowledge of what it could do that scared people.  Dropping the gun into the pocket of the sweat pants he wore he walked out of the room back down the walkway to where Jethsa lay.  As he came into the door he replied "Yeah the two lizard men with razors all over their body are just looking around the ship at the moment.  They don't seem to see us.  Don't know how your ship does that but it's really cool."

<Yeah. A black lab, and there are a few people in the house in dog morph. I'd de-morph, if I were you. We're taking to the air to go search for the Andalite. Meet us around back of my house.> Kasey responds to Eddie from her perch on the windowsill.

<Thanks Reece,> says Sam, padding out the door and instantly sniffing around the front lawn.  <Oh, wow this nose is amazing.  Um.  Torrence?  Kasey?  Jas...let's go.  We're going to head toward the woods, you can follow us to the ship.  I bet I can smell that thing right now, if I try.>  She pauses, stock still, letting the night breeze fill her complex turbinate nasal cavities.  <Incredible!> she says.  <I can smell what all of these houses are cooking for dinner.  Ew, who still eats those Kid Cuisines?> She leads Jas toward the woods they had emerged from earlier, casting about for the elusive scent of alien metal, and using her own memory to guide her.

Torrence squirmed out of the door after Sam.
<I'm out,>  She replied openly. <- come on guys, lets go! Times a wastin'!>

Soaring above the ground, she moved ahead of Sam behind and slightly to the left.   Swinging around, she scanned for sights that could lead them to their other worldly quarry.

The dogs searching out the ship soon picked up a scent- it was clearly Sam and Jas, but as they had come from the ship, it was a safe bet to follow it. As they moved into the woods, they quickly picked up something new.  A prickly scent that the dog brain associated with anger- an angry dog? But there was no dog scent...  The human brain soon realized this could be an alien scent!

<Do you smell that?> Sam murmurs, snuffling through the woods.  <What is that?  It's messing up our own scent...I'm having a hard time following our trail, but...maybe it's coming from Jethsa's ship!  Follow me, guys.>  Sam barks and bounds through the woods, following the strange alien scent.

Jas followed Sam-dog down and out of the house, crossing back into the woods.  He wondered what someone would think if they saw a young, white-haired guy picking his way through the woods in nothing but someone else's skin-tight bike-shorts apparently following a dog that didn't need a leash.  "Sam, damn it how the hell am I supposed to follow you as a damn snake?"  Jas shook his head knowing he couldn't move as fast as the dog in snake-form, but honestly he couldn't really keep up with Sam now...He continued to pick his way through the underbrush, twigs and rocks scratching his feet all to hell.

"Screw it!"  Jas thinks about the snake and starts to change in the woods trying to keep the bike-shorts with him.  They seemed to snug around his body and stay there, though he couldn't honestly tell if they had or not.  His body seems to melt again, this time the scales covered him immediately and his head changed first, making him some sort of scaly human snake crossbreed thing.  In fact Jas was more or less a snake before his size started to shrink down at all.  Due to not lying down first, and the extra mass of the huge snake body, his impact on the forest floor was more than painful, but he noted that the pain went away quickly as he finished the morph.  He set off after dog-Sam flicking his tongue in the air to catch her scent.  He had to work hard to follow her, the snake instincts almost screaming no in his brain.

Eddie, moving from Kasey's house to the Woods
« Reply #644 on: June 22, 2009, 07:12:37 AM »
Nobody had answered my question over which team was going after which goal. Perhaps they were in too much of a hurry?

I took a 50:50 chance and followed Torrence-bird out the door, hoping she was part of the Andalite-rescue team. I realized quickly that as cats couldn't fly, I'd probably lose her when she took off, but I came up with a plan around that - Scent. I memorized Kasey's dog's scent and followed it in the direction Torrence was heading.

Soon woodlands grew denser around me. I saw a clump of bushes that were large enough and dense enough to hide my human form and decided now would be a good time to change morphs. Making sure I had a bead on which direction the others were travelling, I nosed my way into the heart of the bushes I'd found and started demorphing.

The elastic band around my neck got tighter again as I got larger, but I knew it wouldn't get tight enough to stop me breathing because I'd put it on while I was human, after all. As I demorphed I contemplated which new morph to choose; Bird? - No, they already had birds, and besides that I didn't like to distance myself from any action. This left one of my Big-Cat morphs, but which one? If it was going to get darker, my Black-Panther/Leopard morph would be ideally camoflaged; If I went for straight-power, I'd be going Puma; But no, the smart compromise for this situation was Clouded-Leopard: It was smaller and less conspicuous than the other two, yet just as deadly if it got the element of surprise. I wished I'd had time to get a Jaguar morph; They OWNED the jungle, and a little woodland like this? Would've been the ideal morph for both stealth AND power...

Through all that thinking, I almost surprised myself that my demorph was complete. I looked down at my nearly-useless legs splayed out behind me, unable to support my weight. I started pushing myself up with my arms, but the bushes attacked me as I did so, so I stopped pushing. Before I started another morph, I took the elastic-band off my neck and buried my alarm-fob in a couple inches of dirt right there at the heart of these bushes with my bare hands and a bit of stick. I left the end of the elastic band poking out slightly so I could find it again later, but no human in their right mind would crawl into this bush and get all scratched up.

As I concentrated on my favourite morph thusfar, its large beautiful patterns faded onto my skin and fur started pushing them out. Enormous incisors grew in, then outside my mouth as their length became too much to keep enclosed. Thankfully the rest of my jaw followed suit and I soon became a person who was almost entirely human but with a CL's head and markings. That thought would have made me smile, except my smiling-muscles had already been replaced by their CL equivalents which were designed to bare its impressive teeth. My legs grew in strength and I brought my rear up just in time for the large tail to SPROOT from it. With a blink, it was as if someone had just switched a load of lights on - The bushes lit up around me and I could see every single branch whereas my human eyesight had blurred them together in the low-light.

As the morph completed, and the CL's mind surfaced, I marked this bush as my territory almost without thinking about it: Meh, at least it'll be easy to find my keyfob again, I thought to myself as I nosed my way back out of the bush and stretched, digging my powerful claws into the nearest tree-trunk. Rememberring the scent I'd memorized, I took a breath in through my nose: Wow, so many interesting smells! - But I reigned in the animal's curiosity and concentrated, zeroing in on the fresh scent of Kasey's dog.

I followed the dogs easily, but didn't completely catch up with them - I didn't wanna frighten them, after all. Every now and then I'd spot them through the trees as we moved.

<I hope you're the rescue team for the Andalite, else I'm in completely the wrong morph.> I called ahead to them, <I had to remorph, so I'm a little way behind you guys. Don't wait up though, I can track you easily and it might be a good idea for me to keep the element of surprise if you're ambushed or something. - Not that you will be, but just in case. You know?>

I 'hear' an unfamiliar female thoughtspeak 'voice' talking about scents, then mentioning "Jethsa's ship". Well, it looks like that answers THAT question then, I muse. I hear a bark echo off tree trunks and one of the dogs suddenly bounds forward, accelerating after a new scent. Following suit, I increase my own velocity to keep them all in visual range, and figuring if I can see them they can probably hear my thoughtspeak. Soon enough, I pick up on a strange scent that makes the CL mind hesitate - Was it a threat? Hmm, maybe... But perhaps this was what that dog was following.

I felt a light breeze coming from ahead; At least we were downwind of the enemy, if that was what this scent came from, or indeed our prey... Ahh! Yes, CL-brain: Prey! - Follow the strange scent to your meal... - Don't eat the doggies though! I thought at my instinctual side, wary that I was also following friends.

It was good that we were downwind, as it meant if there were any enemies ahead of us with a good sense of smell they were still at a disadvantage. It also made tracking the dogs a piece-of-cake.

To make conversation while tracking, I asked:
<So who are these new people, anyway?>
