Eddie:

"I'm ready when you are." I glanced at the two girls. "On 3? 3. 2. 1. Now!" I tried to kick some life into my atrophied legs as I hefted myself out of the borrowed wheelchair with my hands, trusting most of my weight to the two girls helping me.

Alice: "You know, even if it DOES bite your finger off: You'll regrow it after a morph/demorph cycle, so yeah there is the pain thing, but at least you don't have to worry about permanent injuries too." I explained.

Reece follows. "For realz?" he asks in amazement as Alice speaks. "God damn, we can do all sorts of stuff now..." he ponders. "Do you reckon that works for stuff like smoking? Not that I like the idea of smelling like car exhaust all day, but it'd be something if you could get the immediate effect without the long-term damage."

"That's... somewhat comforting." Christina said slowly, giving Alice a worried look. She rubbed her hand against her pants nervously before resuming her approach of the chimpanzee exhibit.
"Pains just temporary. But the memories last a life time, right?"

She extended her hand out towards the chimpanzee.  It approached and made a wild vocalization before moving back.  Too far to touch.

"Damn." Christina stepped back, considering the problem.
"I guess. But do you really want to perpetuate smoking? I mean what if some kid sees us smoking for three years and says 'hey, they don't even cough?"
Inspired, the the teen removed her silver bracelet, making it catch the availiable light.  The chimpanzee was intrigued and moved closer.  Christina held it out- and as the chimpanzee reached through, she touched its arm and acquired him.

Alice: I gave him a disapproving look; "Sadly no. The Tar built up in your lungs would remain part of your original form. Same thing with heavy-metal poisoning, like lead."

Reece nods. "Probably for the best," he concludes. "That's some remarkable thinking there, Christina," he remarks as she attracts the Chimpanzee over. He looks around the exhibit. "Fingers might not be a bad idea, either. Mind if I try him when you're done?"

"Sure," Christina says, stepping back. She continues to dangle the bracelet for the chimpanzee, whose eyes now stare rather blankly.  "Aw, I made him all dull and sleepy."  She glanced over towards Alice.  "You're really a lot more knowledgeable than us on this. How long you've been in the - the war?"

Reece strokes the Chimpanzee hand as Christina wraps up. "Thanks a mill," he says. He makes faces at the Chimp as he acquires it. "This thing's out like a light."

Alice: "Interestingly, if you acquired and morphed someone who smoked heavily, you would not morph the tar in their lungs..." I continued from my previous answer. Turning to Christina I addressed her question: "Well, quite simply, ever since it started. Of course back then I hadn't met any Andalites, so I couldn't do much."

"How'd you get sucked into a thing like this without any morphing?" Reece asks as he finishes acquiring the Chimp. He makes his way back from the cage. "Might be wise to stay out of arm's reach of Tarzan here in case he wakes up."

Alice: I sighed. Unbeknown to Reece, his questions had started going in a direction that could get awkward pretty quickly. "That's the thing about this war, it only takes an observant mind to realize what's going on, and a few good braincells to steer clear of 'trouble'. It's only if you want to make a difference in the outcome of a war that life becomes... Difficult."

"Difficult?" Christina repeated, an emphatic look covering over her face as she stepped back to stand besides Reece, mindful of the Chimpanzee.

Alice: I gave Christina a slightly mournful glance. "I did not wish to alarm any of you, but there have been... Losses. Like my poor Andalite friend, for example..." I gave a little sob and turned my face away for a few seconds. When I slowly returned my gaze back to them, my usual countenance had returned albeit without the smile I'd gained from Reece's recent joke.

Reece frowned. "Aw, ****... Alice, that sucks." He pats her on the shoulder. "But hey, there's way more than just the two of us, and we've got your experience behind us. You're done losing friends to this."

Alice: I offered a reassured smile to Reece, but it didn't quite reach my eyes. - If only I could know that for certain...

"Yeah." Christina agreed with Reece, her eyes heavy with imagining Alice's loss. "Thanks to the Andalite's Gift, we can really make a difference here. We'll be able to repel the Yeerks... but you've seen things, right Alice? What other morphs might be helpful?"

Alice: I took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly through my mouth, but did not speak. I wanted them to realize that some of my past experiences were painful for me to re-live, but in such a way that I was not asking them to avoid the subject altogether.

Kasey grips Eddie under the arm and lifts him with Torrence. She moves quickly towards the enclosure, keeping a tight grip on Eddie's upper arm. She keeps pace with Torrence, wedging the door open with her foot once they reach the enclosure. She concentrates on maintainig her focus so she doesn't trip. She slows as they begin to approach the leopard. Her heart is beating quickly, and her breathing heavy when they approach.

Brit hung by his fingertips four meters above the enclosure. You see! Brit thought to himself. I told you the viewing platform was too high to fall. "Shut up" he growled to himself, before his fingers lost there strength and he fell.

He landed with a bump on the grass and for a few seconds the world around him swirled. His head hurt. He lifted his hand to his head, it was sore but he was ok. He sat up, he had been lucky another meter higher and he probably wouldn’t be getting up.
He stood to gather his bearings (( LOL 'bear'ings)). He was directly under the viewing platform tight at the edge of the enclosure. The animals would probably be thurther in. Brit started to walk grumbling to himself.

“You just haad to get a goddamn bear didn’t you Brit. Really smart of you! And on your own as well brilliant, just brilliant. Well when you get mauled you only have yourself to blame!”. Brit cut his rambling short. A large shaggy shape was lumbering out of a cave. Bollocks.

Christina

Alice's prolonged silence made it clear to her that it wasn't something she wanted to discus. They would have to decide what would be good for the fight on their own.  Giving Alice an apologetic look, she signaled to a sign up the ways.

"Condor Ridge." She stated. "The birds that were so close to extinction, they were down to 9 in the 90's. They've been releasing more of them into the wild now, they've gone up one notch from above extinction.  Pretty powerful bird..."

Torrence hefted her half of Eddie's weight without complaint as they entered the exhibit. A thrill ran through her- fear, apprehension, a great deal of doubt over what they were doing.  But hey- she and Kasey had just acquired a leopard. Tonight was a night of impossibilities.

Wordlessly, she nods at Kasey o signal lowering Eddie a bit so that he could reach the leopard...

The bear blinked at Brit.  It had spent the heat of the day slumbering and had no come out to gobble the treats the keepers put out for it.  Its nose raised as it sniffed the air, determining that this new person in its territory hadn't eaten it's fruit.

It rose up on its hind legs and bellowed once- signaling to this smaller creature that this food was its own, and the small pink thing should leave. The bear dropped down to all fours and began lumbering around its enclosure.

The keepers hid the food about so he'd forage like a bear in the wild...

"Sounds wicked," Reece says, following Christina to Condor Ridge. "You seem to know a lot about animals- Chimpanzee elbows, Condor extinctions. You a girl scout?"

"I come here a lot." Christina replies to Reece. "My brother, cousins and I come here at least once a month.  Our grandparents bought us a membership and we don't like the same movies, so its something."

She slows up near the Condor exhibit.  It was large, with a covering to prevent the birds escape.

"They use to be hunters, but supposedly nearly going extinct makes them scavengers now. They have a huge wingspan.  Are you going to acquire one too?"

"No good reason not to, is there?" Reece asked. "I mean, you never know when something's going to be useful." Reece crouches down and peers at the exhibit's covering. "Any idea how we get in this one?"

Eddie, + JP, + Eddie's cut-forward
« Reply #383 on: May 15, 2009, 08:21:11 PM »
Eddie:

With the girls' help I managed to make my awkward, stumbling, painful way over to the Leopard. It seemed to still be entranced and was just outside my reach until the girls lowered me within reach of the magnificent spotted kitty. I reached out a hand to its flank, breathing a sigh of relief when it didn't try to kill me, and as I helped it slip back into the aquiring-trance once more.

"Okay, I got the kitty's DNA, now let's skedaddle before it decides we're lunch, or its friends arrive." I whispered urgently to the girls. "Next stop: Puma. Or Mountain-Lion, if you prefer to call it that. You should see how well they can jump!" I winked over my shoulder, showing I was thinking of abilities that would prove useful. "After him, I'd really like to acquire a Clouded-Leopard; They're not-only extremely beautiful, but also very fast and agile. And you should SEE the teeth on them! - Wow." I was really getting into this acquiring-thing now...

Reece feels around for a bit before eventually coming across the latch to the Condor cage. He motions to Christina, and looks inside. Light filters in. He eyes one of the creatures not too far away.

Alice: I follow Christina and Reece to the condor exhibit, watching as Reece unlatches the cage door and Christina boldly steps inside. I quickly enter the enclosure behind her, hoping Reece gets the hint to get inside and shut the door so the birds don't fly out of it.

(('Wonderful' JP, eh? *grr* ))

Eddie's cut-forward:  ((This includes some auto-ing of Torrence and Kasey. As such, if their players would like any changes to their chars' actions, I invite them to repost the cut-forward with those changes in place.))

The renewed trance left the Leopard unwilling to chase and eat us, giving enough time for the girls to get me out of the habitat and back into the complimentary wheelchair. When I was safely seated, Torrence rushed to secure the door so the Leopard couldn't escape and chase us around the whole park. She was soon back behind me again, giving me the distinct impression of trying to limit how much time her panties spent in my field of vision. I thought back to Kasey and started feeling bad that Torrence and I had all our 'bits' covered while she was still so exposed 'down-below'. This feeling was intensified when I remembered how much I'd been staring at her exposure... Recalling what Torrence was still wearing, I felt a twinge of annoyance. - Was I annoyed at her for not giving up another piece of outer-clothing to cover Kasey's exposed privates? Well, no, not really; Torrence had leant us both her own clothes that we may regain some dignity, when she could just as easily have chosen not to offer anything at all. But I was annoyed that Kasey should have to stay so exposed when there was an alternative.

"Torrence? I was wondering..." How should I word this? Hmm... "Are you wearing anything under that top of yours? Like a bra or something? If you are, would you mind letting Kasey use that top as a skirt, so she's not so exposed?? - I mean, if you've nothing on under the top, I can understand you not wanting to get your boobs out. I don't mind offering her these jeans you leant me if you're unwilling or unable to give her that top without being exposed yourself. - Being naked myself doesn't bother me if the alternative is this poor girl having to walk around so exposed in the company of some bloke who can't stop staring at her because he's had no feeling 'down there' since the accident that severed his spine a few years ago and has suddenly regained said feeling only to witness her naked beauty. I mean, can you imagine the overload of sensation I've been trying to suppress here?" My last two sentences had been spoken faster and faster until the words kinda blurred into each other as my cheeks flushed red again. Yeah, I'd spoken of myself in the third-person, but somehow that had made it easier to convey what had been happening and why. I panted to regain my breath. Not only had my speech gotten faster, but I'd also forgotten to breath while I spoke.

When I'd regained my breath, I spoke again: "I accepted your offer of these jeans not only to lessen my own embarrassment, but also to lessen yours and Kasey's at having to see me like that." I turned my face from Torrence to Kasey, "Kasey, I offer you these jeans Torrence leant me. I'm truly sorry for staring at you so much, I simply couldn't help myself: You are a pretty girl, after all. Perhaps you can consider these jeans as a token of my apology?"

Kasey brushed my apology aside, but before she could answer, Torrence took off her top to give to her ((Player approved this via IM)) so my offer became a moot point. I found out on our way to the Puma enclosure that she indeed had a bra on under that top, but as the top hadn't had shoulder-straps, neither did the bra. Torrence was also a rather pretty girl, so seeing her in her current level of attire made me very glad of the jeans she'd leant me. I knew I shouldn't be looking really, but as I'd already explained the reason behind my staring at Kasey so much, and also because the 'condition' was still in effect, I simply couldn't help myself from burning another image to my memory. I merely hoped she'd understand and maybe even forgive me for this behaviour.

The Puma was asleep, leaning against the bars to its enclosure, so it was pretty easy to acquire without the need to even open that door. It merely took a silent approach and a brave hand.

The Clouded-Leopard, on the other hand, was more of a challenge: It had also been near enough to the bars to allow us to reach through, but when I'd reached toward it it suddenly got startled and chomped its massive kanine's right through my wrist! - The pain was immense, but while it was trying to pull my arm off I had the presence-of-mind to put it in the acquiring trance. It didn't let go, exactly, but it did slacken its grip enough that I could pull the remains of my ruined wrist out of harm's way. It sloped off out of reach as it swallowed the flesh it had managed to tear from my arm, which was now bleeding profusely and quite painfully.

Thankfully I remembered that the healing of wounds was part of the magic of morphing, so I decided to give my latest aquisition a try: I concentrated on the Clouded-Leopard's front paws as hard as I could through the pain, and to my relief that pain started to decrease immediately. My healthy arm grew fur as it got a little more toned, but the ruined muscles of my bad arm repaired themselves as they changed. Soon I had shaggy fur over most of my exposed upper torso and head, my ears had started migrating and enlarging, and huge kanines had started to fill my mouth. But when I noticed that my arm had healed, I stopped the morph.

I seriously considered completing the morph to try it out: After all, there weren't many people in The Gardens right now. But then I grew afraid of what was likely to happen to Kasey and/or Torrence if the cat's mind and instincts took over as fully as those of the Salamander had, so instead I reversed the morph and flexed my newly-repaired wrist and hand, turning to smile at my companions as I did so and almost forgetting what they weren't wearing in the process. As I smiled a big-toothed grin, the last of the changes receded along with my oversized fangs and I regained my human smile. They were staring back at me, arms folded across their chests, Torrence hiding hers behind her folded arms. I blushed when I realized I'd started staring at her again and forcefully tore my gaze away from them with a quick "Sorry!" of apology.

I felt guilty for Torrence's current state of undress, given that all these clothes had been hers after-all, so I suggested for our next move it might be a good idea to recover our own clothes.

On our way back to the Elephant statue I mostly wheeled myself along, but the girls helped push the wheelchair when we were going uphill, so I guessed they'd at least partially forgiven my behaviour toward them.

Kasey retrieved our clothes from under the statue so that Torrence wouldn't have to bend down and give me another sight to remember. When she'd pulled on her panties she returned Torrence's top to her, evidently not as bothered with my seeing her panties when I'd already seen what was hidden by them. She soon had her trousers on though. She threw my clothes at me before pulling her arms inside the zipped-up hoodie to maintain privacy while she put her own bra on. While she worked on that, I quickly donned my patterned button-up short-sleeved shirt then wiggled out of Torrence's jeans. When I turned to return them to her, I saw she had already got her top back on and seemed to be waiting almost impatiently for her Jeans. I apologized that they couldn't be washed before she she wore them again, which drew a dirty look from her. Suddenly realizing how it might have sounded, I quickly corrected that assumption, but she double-checked visually before putting them on anyway. I had considered offering her my own trousers, but there was no point now I'd taken hers off.

I turned away from her while she pulled on her Jeans to give her a little privacy, but it just so happened at that moment Kasey was taking off the hoodie, having successfully donned her bra but not her own top yet. Again I could only assume the same as I had before, but I turned away anyway, not having intended to look her direction in the first place. - I'd merely been turning away from Torrence, not toward Kasey specifically.

Torrence once-again assisted me getting into my briefs and trousers, the same way she had done last time, and that was me done. Most of us had had the foresight to leave our wallets/handbags etc behind at Alice's safe-house so we wouldn't be so easily identified if any of us were caught or any of our stuff was found. - Alice had let everyone assume the house we'd gone to to meet her friend was her own, but I knew better: I knew where she really lived from following her home once, a few months ago. But I hadn't said anything to anyone. If she wanted to keep her real home a secret for now, that was understandable. I'd ask her about it in a few days if she hadn't come clean by then.

Once we were all fully-dressed, we headed out together again to find some more morphs...

As the teenagers navigated the Gardens acquiring to their hearts content, they became aware of a pressing weariness.  To those who had morphed that evening, the weariness quickly grew into exhaustion. The nights events coupled with the tax the morphing took on their bodies forced them to concede to call it a night.  The Gardens wasn't going anywhere.

After visiting the elephant to dress in their own clothes again, the managed to climb over the high brick wall to the parking lot.  As they walked back to Alice's house, the lightening sky told them they'd been out most of the night.  Thank goodness tomorrow was a Saturday.

Entering Alice's home, she asked if they'd like to stay the night.  The operatives who could ensure that the exposed teens wouldn't be involuntarily infested would be by in the morning and could be briefed before make up. That was of course, if they desired to allow 'doubles' to act as though they'd been infested in order to avoid any further danger.

Yet another thing to think about before sleep overcame them, whether or not they chose to accept the offer to stay over or were driven back to their own homes.

As morning broke over the horizon, those who stayed at Alice's were made aware of urgent, panicked whispering. Opening their eyes, they'd see Jenny- and two unknown men of middling age- in a deep conversation.

They looked very worried.

"All of the precautions were taken," Jenny was insisting. "- it kept the Andalite's Gift safe for so long, how could we have guessed this would happen?"

"Regardless of past success, the fact remains that the Andalite's Gift is missing," One of the men replied with a deep, somber voice. "- the peril this poses to the world can not be understated."

Kasey stirs at the sound of voices, but remains on the floor pretending to be asleep for a few minutes. Once she hears the gift is missing, she decides to try to find out more. She struggles to sit up, leaning against the couch from her position on the floor. She rubs her bleary eyes then stares at Jenny and the men silently, before asking in a low voice, "What happened?"

Jenny looked surprised to see that Kasey was awake. She looked pained for a moment, yet the other two looked disapprovingly at her.

"There's been a terrible blow to our group," Jenny said slowly, as though searching for the right words. "- after you returned, we secured the Andalite's Gift and took our rest. Yet... the secure Chamber has been broken into-"

"That's enough." One of the men broke in. "This is not the concern of the children."
Jenny gave him a conflicted look, glancing back at Kasey searchingly.

Reece lies flopped on the couch, his face buried in a pillow and his arms and legs dangling at odd angles. He squints as the concerned whispers rouse him, and he responds to the older man's words.

"I think we signed up for some sort of military service, didn't we?" he pries his head up- there's an impression of his face left on the pillow. "You're old enough to have been there for 'Nam. We fight, so we get to vote and sit at the grown-up table and all that jazz. Besides," he sits up and wraps his blanket around himself, "we can turn into rhinos and salamanders and all that. Unless you've got some bird DNA inside of you, you could use our help. That's like, the whole point, yeah?"

"It is. " Jenny agreed. "At approximately 0500 this morning, there was a commotion-"

"Jenny," The older man warned, glaring at Reece before fixing the look on Jenny.

"- and the security system had a glitch." She pauses, obviously very disturbed by this fact.

"That's enough," The older man decided. "- Jenny, get to Headquarters. You're no longer the Liaison for the children."

"Reece has a point." Jenny insisted. "We need their help for the war."
"The war and this instance are separate incidents. You know that we can't take the risk of having them investigate."  He said sternly, fixing Reece with a penetrating stare.
"There are things they can not understand."

Jenny lowered her head and turned to walk out of the room. She hesitated just long enough t drp something small- like a flash drive- and continued out of sight.
The two men didn't seem to notice that she'd dropped anything.

Kasey bites her lip, and her eyes narrow as she hears the older man refer to them as 'children'.  She watches Jenny drop the item, then Kasey stands up, and stretches. She mutters, "Excuse me, restroom." She begins to walk towards the area where the device was dropped. She bends over to fiddle with the hem of her pants, and palms the item. She exits to use the restroom, then returns to the living room.

Kasey picks up her blanket, and wraps herself in it. She sits on the couch, practically on Reece's lap. "That was...interesting." she remarks softly, as she slips her hand under his blanket, feeling for something. When she finds his hand, she presses the device into it, then pulls her hand back out. She leans in close, and hugs him, quickly. She whispers, barely audibly, "I have no pockets." She sits back once again, hugs her knees to her chest, and pulls the blanket tightly around her.

She sighs, "Rough night...what do we do now?"
