Alice:

I waited until everyone in the bathroom had made it out through the window before making my own exit the same way. My current hologram was that of a tall, slender woman in her early 20's. She had been one of my previous 'lives' many generations ago, so there would be no photographic record of her if someone tried to trace my current guise.

The window might have been a slight problem to a real human of this build, but we Chee are somewhat smaller than the average 13-year-old in our natural form, so it was just a case of making my exit look convincing rather than any actual physical difficulty for myself.

When I straightend up, I realized nobody outside would recognise me as Alice either. As the adult controllers attempted to force their way out the window to chase our little group of escapees, I had to think of a way to convince teenagers that could not recognise me as Alice, to trust me enough to help them escape...

"We need to get away from here so the Yeerks don't catch us. When we find a place to hide, I promise I'll explain what's going on as best I can. I realize you don't recognize me, but will you trust me to help us all escape them?" I asked in a rushed, hushed voice. I scanned around and spotted some woodland not too far off that might at least help disguise our escape even if it didn't provide a good hiding-place. I started walking backwards in that direction, keeping myself facing them so they could try to detect any hint of deception in my face or body-language. There was no deception to be found, of course, but would any of them trust me? - I could only hope so...

Eddie:

I'm in my car, listening to some music and relaxing a bit after today's school. I was just about to start the engine to drive myself home when I noticed a distressed-looking damsel heading my way from the direction of the woods. She looked somewhat familiar, somehow... Yes, that was it: I'd seen her with Alice a few times. Maybe they were friends? Hmm, I might be able to kill two birds with one stone here... If I help this girl, maybe she can put in a good word for me with Alice? Yeah, that would be good... Hang on: Wasn't she in that building with Alice just now? I could've sworn I'd seen her near Alice in that reception area before the doors were locked shut...

I pressed the window controls and reached to pause my music. The girl would be hit with a wall of sound during the brief half-second between my window starting to open and the music cutting short.

As the window continued to open, I called out to the distressed-girl: "Hey, aren't you one of Alice's friends? - Are you alright?" I asked in a concerned British accent. She certainly didn't look alright...

Reece nods curtly. He's not used to being bossed or babied, even in the direst of circumstances. He affects a smile. "I'm cool, thanks," he says. His eyes are red. He hands the phone back to the Brit. "But I don't reckon Kasey is going to have anything to do with me if I'm the one to dial- we're more likely to lose track of her than anything. Someone she doesn't loath should call." He looks around and, not seeing anyone from inside, begins to unravel the toilet paper from his face.

Some college girl approaches. "What on earth is a Yeerk? And... oh ****," he says. "God dammit, so ****ing..." he whips out his phone and tries to get hold of Sandra. How could he have forgotten?

Kasey hesitates for a moment, deciding he's friend, before lurching towards Eddie's van. The words coming out in a jumble, she begins to explain "They're kidnapping people  in there! I dont' know what they're doing, but they're hurting them somehow! We need to get them out, but there's no way in!" She lets out a choked sob at this thought, terrified for her schoolmates.  She then darts around to the drivers side of Eddie's car. Without giving him time to think, she throws open the drivers side door, and begins to physically push him towards the passengers side "MOVE! We're getting them out NOW!"

Eddie:

I was correct: The girl was definitely NOT alright. She made a bee-line for me, spouting some histerical gibberish about kidnappings amidst audible sobs - Something had seriously upset this girl, but before I had a chance to gather any thoughts for a reply, the girl wrenched open my door and tries to push me out of her way.

Quite apart from there being a centre-console in the way of achieving her goal, there was also the matter of my being paralized from the waist down. My legs flopped randomly as the girl pushed me, and I instinctivly gripped my steering-wheel hard with both hands not only to prevent me falling over, but also to resist the frightened girl's efforts to move me.

"I'm sorry, but nobody drives my baby but me! - Besides, have you ever driven a car with hand-controls for the disabled?" I retorted, perhaps harsher than was strictly necessary. Part of her ramblings suddenly clicked into place: Kidnappings... In the building Alice was in? Even the slightest possibility that Alice might be in some sort of danger and needed my help spurred my decision:

"Right. Stop shoving and get in the passenger-seat. If Alice is in trouble, I'm gonna help you get her out of it!" I told her, while still resisting her efforts to move me.

If she glanced into the back seats, she might notice my wheelchair propped behind the driver's seat. If she releases me, I'd shut my door and start the engine, wait for her to get in one of the passenger doors, and drive out of the car park and across the front of the building to see if I could see any sign of what she was telling me was happening.

My arms have gotten pretty strong from all the wheelchair-use I'd had since my accident, so if she continued trying to move me out of the driving-seat, she'd be fighting a losing-battle.

Kasey backs away from Eddie, then darts around to the passenger side of the car, and climbs in. "The doors are locked. They have Alice, Reece, Damien and the vampire girl. I don't know how to get in, I don't know how to help them." Kasey rubs her eyes, then hesitates for a moment before suggesting, "Ram the door."

"Yes, we should get away from here- " Torrence agrees, falling in step with Alice. "But what about Kasey and Sandra- should we call the police?"

Her pace slows. "What was that word you just said?"

She glances to the other person, Reece, who seemed surprised at the word. Affirming that she hadn't misheard, she glanced over to Reece as he started a phone call.
"Who are you calling?"

"I'm trying to get ahold of Sandra. If she doesn't pick up, I'm gonna call the police. Whatever the hell's going on in there, it's not getting my girlfriend."

"Okay, what the hell are Yeerks?" Autumn demanded, looking at the woman who had said it, "look, my place doesn't have my parents, I don't live with them. How about we go and get Kasey, find Sandra then hole up at my place? I doubt they'll find us there." She began to follow at a brisk pace, hoping this was all but a dream.

Torrence nodded to Reece.
"Your girlfriend... she was with the other two..."  She turns and looks to Autumn.

"You were with Reece's girlfriend, right? Did she seem okay to you?"  She falls in step with autumn, who seemed to have a good plan. "Unsupervised home, check. I'm with you on that."

GM:  Reece's cell reported that Sandra's phone was out of range...

Reece looks at his phone and curses loudly. He looks around. "Where the hell did I put that toilet paper?"

Kasey waits silently a moment longer, becoming increasingly frustrated. She can't stand the thought at anyone being trapped in that building, never mind her friends. She presses her hands against her face in frustration. When she calms enough to realize Eddie probably isn't willing to trash his car, she lets out a sigh, and stares out the window, debating if she should make a run for it, or stick with a familiar face.

Suddenly, she spots Torrence and Autumn walking with an unfamiliar person. Kasey flings open the door and darts over to them, stumbling into Torrence. She flings her arms around the girl, and lets loose a torrent of questions "What is going on in there? Are you okay? Who got out? What happened? Why were they trying to hurt us? What are we going to do?"

Torrence hugged her friend tightly, overwhelmed at seeing she was okay.

"Oh my God, I'm so glad you got out! Is Sandra with you?"  Realizing that Kasey had asked her own questions before she'd bombarded her with her own, she hastily offered.

"We don't know why those people attacked us- but all of us got out. Well, except Sandra." She gives Reece a guilty look before looking away.
"This lady is talking about 'Yeerks'. Hasn't told us what they are though." She points out Alice in her older woman halogram.

Eddie:

As I started to drive across the front of the building, I deliberatly ignored the girl's instruction to 'ram the door', but in such a way that it might seem I didn't even hear it rather than deliberately avoiding the subject. - I certainly didn't want to damage my car, unless it became necessary in order to save Alice's life.

The girl spotted people before I did, and jumped out the passenger door while the car was still moving! - Albeit at only about 10mph, but that could still twist an ankle etc. I, of course, immediately threw out the anchors and one of my back wheels locked and skidded as I came to a stop.

That. Girl. Was. Insane!

Apparently, the insane-girl had spotted some friends who were perhaps with her and Alice in the building... She seemed to be relieved to see them anyway. I quickly scanned the vicinity for Alice's familiar features... Hang on... Where was Alice? I couldn't see her anywhere! My hands gripped tighter onto the steering-wheel with worry.

"Have you seen Alice?? Is she with you?" I yelled my question urgently to the group of people insane-o-girl had leapt into, hoping one of them would know something.

Shalner tenses up when she hears Alice's name. She looks confused. "Alice?" She looks back at Eddie, then at Torrence, panic creeping into her voice, "Alice? Oh god! Is Alice still in there?"

Alice:

As I continued walking backwards, a boy in a makeshift TP-mask starts talking about my friend Kasey... At least I think he means her, there could be another Kasey I suppose... This bit of conversation isn't aimed at me, so I pretty-much ignore it. As he starts unravelling his TP-mask, he asks what 'on Earth' a Yeerk is. Before I have a chance to respond, he suddenly realizes he's forgotten something important... Or is it someONE important...

At any rate, a girl called Torrence decided to trust me. I recognized her from school, though we'd hardly spoken to each-other. She would probably have recognised me, had I been in my usual hologram. Anyway, she started to follow me, which was good. Hopefully her actions would encourage the same of some of the others... She too mentions Kasey, and some other girl called Sandra whom I didn't think I'd met, at least not to the extent that I could match a face to the name. More importantly, Torrence suggested calling the Police... Oh no, I hope they don't do that: It could only end badly.

She too asked about the word I'd used: Yeerks. I considered answering, but now was still not the time: Any explanation given 'on-the-run' might just confuse them further or make them distrust my knowledge.

The boy who'd asked first informed Torrence he was calling this Sandra person, and then the Police, explaining that Sandra is apparantly his girlfriend. Oh dear, there's that Police idea again...

Another girl I knew, called Autumn, then also asked about Yeerks. I couldn't go on ignoring this persistent question without giving at least a better reason for doing so... But she did recommend a place we could hole-up in for a while, which was useful information.

There was some more chatter about Kasey and "Reece's girlfriend"... Hmm, that must be the boy who asked first about the Yeerks, Reece...

A familiar Black car creeps into view, driving across the front of the building: It's Eddie. With relief, I also recognise the girl jumping out of the passenger seat - Kasey! She's ok! That's good news, anyway. I wanted to run and hug her, but caught myself before I could try: She would not recognize me, so that wouldn't be a good idea.

Kasey rushed us and flung herself around Torrence, deluging her with questions. Torrence was understandably relieved to see Kasey alive and well. She starts talking about me in my current guise and reiterates that I still haven't said any more about the Yeerks.

Suddenly I hear Eddie's voice from the driver's seat in his car asking after me. No, after Alice. He didn't recognize me either, of course. Oh darn, how was I going to explain my own absense here? There was genuine concern in his voice, too.

As if on cue, Kasey suddenly burst into lunatic-mode, worrying about 'me'. It tore me apart to not reveal myself then-and-there, but I couldn't do that until I'd explained a few things first. Well, here goes nothing:

"Ok, fine. Yeerks are the enemy. They've taken control of the people in that building, and many many others. Including quite a few Police officers, so it's not really a good idea to get them involved. I'll explain more when we get somewhere safe." I explained, "Eddie? Would you mind giving these people a lift to Autumn's place? That should be safe enough for a little while, at least. Oh, and Alice is fine, she's already out of the building and in a good hiding place. I'll fetch her over to Autumn's place on my scooter, don't worry. We'll be following your car, ok? I'll try to keep up with you."

I realised a hair too late that I'd used Eddie's and Autumn's names before my current persona could have learned them, but no matter: I'd be revealing that I'm really Alice when we got to Autumn's place.
