Mar's expression is unreadable and somewhat weary. Did the Andalite really not understand why he was manipulating his emotions at all? ....then again, Mar wasn't sure why he was doing it himself.

"My friends are..." Mar smirks. But it doesn't seem as animated. "...well, backstabbing violent Neanderthals. Most of them, that is. We have this shared agreement that we're only hanging out with one another for our own selfish benefit. Normally I don't even care. But...you say no one would miss you. Well..."

Mar stares straight at him, even though Ossanlin won't meet his gaze. "...Myitt would miss you, I think. Even though she's angry at you. I don't want you to make my Precious unhappy. Your crew would probably miss you, and so would the rebellion. And..."

Mar lets that statement hang, as if unsure how to finish it.

Quote from: Gaz
Morgan turned when he heard the voice behind him. "Yes?" he asked. "It's all right. We're finished here. What do you need?"
Rayker pointed his gun at Desmond... or rather, jabbed him with it. He was just starting to arouse from his most recent knock on the head. "Justice needs to be carried out." He said.

Rayker, and all of his men, were each now contemplating how they would accomplish what they had set out to do for their entire lives. The deed must be done, but they didn't want to succumb to the temptations of raw revenge. This was about justice, wasn't it? These thoughts had never troubled the squad before, but each and every scenario that they envisioned was dark....

Ossanlin stabs the tree repeatedly with his wrist-blade.  <I don't think Myitt wishes to have anything to do with me.  As for my crew...we are warriors...when one of us dies, we move on.  It is our job.  It might cause a bit of an uncomfotable time for the Electorate, but I don't really mind causing them discomfort.  I...I don't know anymore.  Damn it Mar...I had it figured out, yet you keep twisting my thread of existence...causing kinks to show that were blessedly hidden before.>

Ossanlin shakes his head again and looks up at Mar... <We all die...well, maybe you don't, but we mortals do.>  Ossanlin pauses for a moment.  <...And what...?>

Corliss heads off through the trees, suddenly unsure exactly where Tora's ship is.

He pauses in the dim forest, pulling up his holoscreen and searching for any sort of energy signal Tora's crashed ship might still be emitting.  It would have one of the rebel encryption signatures, but only if the transmitters were still functioning well enough.

The green glow of the screen lights up his frown, and he walks on in silence.

---

"Yeah, I'd like to know, too."

Myitt steps out from the woods near Ossanlin and Mar, crossing her arms.

Mar looks uncomfortable with Ossanlin's last query. He doesn't know how to deal with what he's about to say. But if he plans to prevent Ossanlin from leaving, then he has no choice. It bothers him though that it doesn't appear to be a lie or a distortion. This newfound life of his is like a tangled web.

"................... I would miss you," Mar says. The words sound very bizarre. It is as if he hasn't said anything like it in a long time. These words slipped out of Mar's mouth just before he hears Myitt's statement as she comes out of the woods. Mar's expression snaps into that of carefully controlled irritation. The moment is gone.

"Hello, precious," mutters Mar, a bit dryly. "It's nice to know that you're so paranoid I'll hurt someone that you eavesdrop on my private conversations now. I don't want Ossanlin's soul. Someone else already owns it."

Myitt smirks.  "What can I say.  I try to get away from you, and somehow I just keep on accidentally running right back.  Coincidence?"

She glances at Ossanlin, then back at Mar.  "It's all right.  I know you're not going to hurt him.  I'm just going to leave you two alone.  In fact, I think it's best if I leave.  Tara does need to sleep, and I've got work to do.  I feel like I've been here for far too long...and it's hardly been a vacation."

Al smiled and led the way back inside. "Um... short version? I was built personally by Squee the Great and programmed to have fun." He called to the bartender, "Lady here drinks on me tonight." With a smile he turned back to Tora. "This isn't my original design, though. New body. This one's nicer than my first." He knocked on the top of his head, as if that would somehow prove his point.

Salem nodded at Terenia. "Thanks." He turned and started to walk away, but something made him stop and turn around again. He wasn't usually vocal, but something about Terenia...

"A lot of the people around here do seem to care about you." He smirked slightly. "Most of those who do seem a little afraid to show it, but it's definitely there. I'm jealous. I haven't had that in..." he paused, "longer than I care to admit. Probably longer than I've been alive," he said, holding out his arms and looking down at himself with a frown. "If I could get that back..."

He stopped mid-sentence and shook his head. He didn't talk about himself. He didn't dwell on the past. He didn't confide in anyone... and here he was getting dangerously close to doing all three. With someone he didn't know, no less. It wasn't just that she reminded him of himself, was it...? It must just be this bar. It might be a universal nexus, but he didn't know how much longer it'd be healthy to stay, if it was going to transform him into the emotional type.

"Terenia, good luck with whatever it is that happened out here tonight," he said, and with a slight bow he turned and walked in the direction Terenia had indicated, hoping to run into Myitt.

Ossanlin's eyebrows raise as Mar says that he would miss him.  <You would miss me?>  Ossanlin looks around in befuddlement.  <I...don't even know what to say to that.>  Ossanlin looks down at the ground, and hears rustling through the trees as Myitt unexpectedly enters his field of view.

He watches Myitt come closer, a surge of anger burgeoning within him.  'No...I buried these feelings deep down...they are nothing...they are inconsequential...i t was my responsibility, not hers...'  If she hadn't dumped Tamora on him...but no, she had been his responsibility as well.  Ossanlin's anger grows cold, turning queasily into guilt, but he is unable to mute it, unable to extract its fangs as he had done before...unable to numb himself.

Ossanlin keeps his eyes on Myitt as she speaks...he is unable to say anything.  He doesn't know what to say or how to say it...or if he wants to say anything.  He feels as though he should...but cannot.

Mar watches the series of emotions that cross Ossanlin's face carefully. They are rather delightful. The man is clearly tormented. Yet at the exact same time, Mar gets that sensation in his chest whenever he dwells too long on it. He feels awkward, sated by all this sorrow among Terenia and Ossanlin and yet not satisfied. He frowns uncomfortably, and prepares to ask a question that just occurred to him.

"Ossanlin..." Mar states in a cold voice. "...your phrasing does not make sense to me for some reason. I felt a...connection between us when we saved Myitt together. I touched your threads in the void and came back pleased. You saw me. I assumed from this that an alliance was forged and we could back one another up. The Bar is a dangerous place and even a Light servant needs assistance. In a perfect world, you would have been one of my Generals. But..."

Mar stares off. His gaze is tired, like he was half expecting this. "...you speak as if this never happened and all we are are two patrons. Am I wrong, War Prince?"

Morgan nodded. "He needs to be dealt with, you're right. His sort would never give up. And besides...his ship is already back in our own 'verse with no way of coming back. Gaz made sure of that. Do it."

Tora stares at Al, trying to decide whether or not he is kidding, as she slides onto a barstool, clutching at the counter to steady herself. It is as if, once his maker discovered how to create a convincing artificial personality, he gave this one a double dosage, she thinks.

Turning her attention to the bartender, she hesitates a moment before ordering redin. "Thank you, Al, for your generosity," she says, swiveling in her seat to look at him, "but this is more than enough for me. Stop me if I try to order more? I have never actually consumed alcohol, so I do not know how I will be effected." She gives a wan smile. "All I know is that a friend of mine once suggested I not drink the beverage I am about to try."

Al smiled at Tora. "I'm no stranger to first-time drinkers." He sidled closer to her and turned sideways, glancing melodramatically around the bar and saying in a loud stage whisper, "I'm a bit of a corrupting influence." He straightened back up. "It's nice to see someone being responsible, though. Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on you," he said with a wink.

He called to the bartender that he'd like a redin as well. "Never had one," he said to Tora with a shrug, offering an advance explanation to a question Tora probably wouldn't have asked. "It sounds decent though."

Tora gives a short laugh, sliding one glass of redin to Al and the other closer to herself as the bartender sets them down. "From what I understand," she says, "it is an alcohol that originated on the Yeerk homeworld. It is created naturally there, but it is deadly to Yeerks in their natural state." She leans forward to sniff the beverage and her face forms a gagging expression. "Truth be told, I have no notion of why it would occur to anyone to consume it." Giving a rueful smile, she adds, "Or why I would order it."

She surveys Al curiously and asks, "Why drink, if you are an android? Is it not a waste of money?"
