I frowned as I heard that the hawk was Tobias. It must be awesome to be a hawk, but...
"OK, so we're going to fight." I knew Jake had been asking a question, not making a statement, but I chose to interpret it wrong. "If we're going to be kicking alien butt, then being stuck as a flimsy bird isn't going to help. No offense. How long have you been...uh...transfo rmed?" I addressed him. Seeing Cassie turn into a horse right before my eyes had really hammered it home for me. This was real, we really could turn into animals, and therefore Elfangor's warnings were correct. So we had to be careful. Hoping this would get him to turn back into a human, I replied to Sam. "I don't think we can trust anyone." Then Marco and Jake disagreed. I could get why Marco would want to tell actual soldiers who were more prepared to deal with the threat, but I went ahead and voiced my opinion.
When I arrived home last night, I hadn't been able to sleep because I was thinking about how these Yeerks were pretty much invisible. Anyone could have one in their head. After I drifted off to sleep, I had a few nightmares about my sisters being Controllers and one where Cassie was a Controller and told someone that we were at the construction site. Luckily I woke up before the dream ended, but it freaked me out. "We can't just tell who's a Controller, right? Because if the Yeerks are in their heads, they can see how to behave, how to act just like their host. So I don't think we should tell anyone about this, not the military...even our parents." I concluded seriously. "I think we're on our own here." In the distant future, I would regret saying this so lightly without thinking. Honestly? A bunch of kids against an evil alien invasion force? But for now, I was ready to fight. I didn't know how, but I had the motivation.
