"I wouldn't mind. What constructive things do you do for fun?"

Jeffrey laughs. "Well, as a side business of sorts, I get on TV and sing a lot. Although they pretty strictly regulate whatever I sing, especially on the operettas----" Jeffrey winks. "...wouldn't want people getting the wrong idea, don't you know, what with how my powers normally work and all."

"I also research the time Merc's from and watch all kinds of old movies, real weird stuff from the early 2000s and old Joss Whedon flicks!" said Jeffrey, giggling. "The things they used to think about superheroes, hehe! Even the Mundanes got in on the action as Hypers, like Batman!"

"I've got a couple of friends who like history too, and there's a Monster celebrity who works in entertainment. He's pretty cool. My dad loves him. Might actually be in love with him, but I never got a confirmation on that."

"Hm, wouldn't have pinned you as the musical type," Merc comments. "Mostly, I spend my time wandering the city, finding interesting spots. I guess you could call it urban exploration, but there's not much of a scene for that outside of New York, from what I've heard. I can play piano, but not well. Mostly transcribing songs I happen to hear on the radio." He hooks his arm over the back of his chair. "Dunno. Just whatever I can do to keep myself occupied. What about you, Verdana?"

"I like getting my hands in pretty much anything, Merc. I'm still young, and haven't settled on any lifelong interests."

"Singing comes kinda naturally to an Esper, because people hear whatever they want to with us--- So a lot of us take up roles on TV and in the theater," says Jeffrey, rather casually. "I could rattle off a few bars of Prince Raus in the Impresario if you'd be interested in hearing. With that saaaaiiid..."

"What did you find out there Merc?" says Jeffrey impishly. "Out in the cities? You'd love the Dome. The place is probably five times the size of any regular old Outside city back in the day! Just find a buddy for safety and you'd be off to the races!"

"Also, come on Verdana, there's gotta be something."

"I like sports. Soccer, basketball, that kind of thing. Like most kids, I like being outside doing stuff, most of the time. When I'm not, I injoy puzzles. Something to keep my mind sharp."

"Mostly, all I find is a whole lot of nothing." Merc waves his hand dismissively. "Bunch'a rat nests and empty dimebags. Really, it's only worth it for the exercise, and the occasional piece of interesting graffiti or good vantage point." He rolls his eyes, a small grin on his face. "You sometimes find some dealers or homeless guys. Most of the time, they're chill, but some of them get hostile. 'Course, nothing I can't take care of."

"Used to really be into sports myself," Merc says to Verdana. "Do any Monsters play professionally, or is it just for fun?"

"Sure, some play professionally. My Uncle has a best friend who makes money playing football. She loves tackling people on the field."

Myitt sighs, shaking off the uncomfortable feeling of having her back to William and the others along the bar counter. The tremors from the oatmeal still make her hands tremble. That much, that quickly, and after so long...it would be a long narcotic hangover.

But not yet.

"I know, Ossanlin," she says quietly. "It's okay. It's really been too long, and we deserve to get to know one another again." She grins a little. "Like the old days. Though Serid...I knew of him, too. That's probably why I was confused. Serid was Illim's former host, before...um, before Daniel, you know." She waves a hand dismissively, looking around, wishing she had her drink close at hand.

William ignores Myitt completely and favors Jeffrey with a broad smile. "It's the consequences I'm entirely looking forward to," he says with a grin. He takes his own fresh ale and helps himself to a seat beside Mercer. "Cheers." He tilts his tankard and gives a crooked smile.

Dalik sighs in exasperation as the bartender produces another lemonade for her. "While the thought is appreciated," she tells William dryly, "I doubt the results will be quite what you're expecting."

She turns back to the conversation. "Death is death. Everyone dies eventually, some deserve it, some don't. But if you spend time agonizing over the morality of it you end up paralyzed. Or stuck in the Peace Movement. Either way, nothing actually happens. Change is often accompanied by death."

Ossanlin sighs, watching the BT to make sure he doesn't pour any oatmeal into the drink he sets beside Myitt.  His eyes flash, seeming to read Ossanlin's thoughts, before he goes back to doing nothing slowly.

Myitt's comments regarding Serid seem to tug at a memory, though it's clouded and hazy.  Only the clearest and most-meaningful events have stayed with him...perhaps the Timestream hadn't completely shielded him from changing his own past, though certain events remain clear as crystal in his mind's eye.

<I might have known that once, though I didn't seem to anymore.  I'm still not aware of all of the ramifications of my actions.  The ripples of my actions travel further and grow larger as they go.  I only hope they have not set into motion a chain of events that will lead to something terrible.  Some might see it as heroic for the lives and influence saved...but others, those who could think in such terms, would see it for what it was...the selfish, greedy act of a desperate military leader playing with a power he could barely comprehend.>  He drinks deeply from his fresh bowl of fermented grass liquor.  <I just hope that I'm the only one who will have to pay the price.>

"Puzzles, eh kid?" says Jeffrey, sighing. "I can't say I'm exactly a fan, but if you're young it's probably good to solve fake problems before tackling real ones."

When he overhears William, he says "Still, I'm just saying," says Jeffrey, giving a kind of shrug with just his right arm and hand to William. "You've gotta be careful in here. We know exactly jack **** about that Bartender."

Jeffrey sips his drink idly and listens to the conversations around him for a moment. Not really seeing a point where he should intervene except when Ossanlin begins speaking on power. He remembers vividly the odd feeling he gets around the blue deer, and the strange desire of the thing to talk to him at some later point. What the hell could we possibly have to talk about? ...something....I guess...

"Power?" Jeffrey finds himself barking out, with almost a laugh. "Look pala--- Ossanlin, power is as power does and no one understands it. Feeling guilty over it is stupid! I don't even know why I got my power--- I doubt anyone does in my whole Dome; It's like a roll of the dice whether or not the key genes'll express themselves. It doesn't even really matter how much you have, because it's a means to an end! You just need enough to do whatever it is you're trying to do. If you really needed to turn back time, I'd say however much you have is enough." After all, I needed enough to alter the will of everyone in the Dome...My own was never enough. I dreamed of having the breadth of your ability, was willing to die for it...and you're scared of the consequences?

"Yeah, puzzles are pretty nice. I'm sure as I get older, I'll have new responsibilities that take priority over sudoku books, or whatever, but right now I have a lot of free time to explore."

Ossanlin frowns, directing a stalk eye at Jeffrey.  <The moment you lose respect for the power you wield, or more importantly, your own actions with that power...you lose integrity and honor.  You become corrupt.  You become dangerous to everyone, including yourself.>  He pauses a moment, sensing a sort of almost-thought-speech from the being he originally thought to be human.

<<People who want power rarely have the integrity to wield it.  And most certainly no one who's NOT afraid of the sweeping ramifications of this power should EVER wield it.  There should never be death unless there is no other option, and this ability has the power to cause death on a galactic scale.>>
