Nyr hisses as the thrall's rounds pierce his shoulder, his leg, his hip.  He senses a surge of energy from the foreign Mass, swelling to some sort of crescendo.  Perhaps he'd underestimated the true power of this foreign Mass.  He quickly withdraws the Dawn Shard from Mar's body as the avatar collapses...perhaps he'd underestimated the avatar's resilience.  He lunges down to the ground as two rather large black-feathered wings sprout and unfurl from his back, both to duck out of Ike's line of fire, and to plunge his index and middle finger of his free hand into the wound in Mar's body.

He pushes small tendrils of his own Mass through the light-opened wound in the being's very fabric.  He attempts to wrap his Mass around the foreign Mass, in an attempt to rip the Mass from Mar's body, but the foreign Mass seems to meld more closely with Mar's...making the connection stronger.  His own Mass is unable to pull the tendrils of the invader free of Mar's energy.  He curses under his breath...the avatar couldn't take much more of this...with a wince, Nyr withdraws the majority of his own Mass, leaving only a small tendril inside Mar, a connection that hopefully no one would notice...he didn't know exactly what he might do with the connection, but such things could prove to be incredibly useful in unanticipated ways.  He uses his energy to repair the majority of the wound in Mar's chest, though the Light would certainly leave a scar on the being's Mass.

He grunts as another of Ike's shots tears through one of his suddenly-formed wings.  He wouldn't be able to carry Mar away with these injuries...he snarls in Ike's direction, his eyes glowing fiercely.  "You are lucky this one asked for you to remain unharmed, thrall."  He slashes the Dawn Shard randomly in Ike's general direction before pumping his wings powerfully and launching off the ground, revealing Mar's prone form.  "It is unfortunate that you short-lived mortals are so-easily manipulated.  You have caused this one untold pain, and yet your Master's deceptions hold within you.  May you know the truth of the darkness you have so-willingly served before your mortal life ends."

With no further preamble, he soars off in the direction of the lake, seeking some place quiet to recover from the thrall's surprisingly-effective attacks.  He stows the Shard across his back as he reaches the center of the lake.  He wraps his wings around himself, plunging to the bottom.  He probes his connection with Mar, feeling the avatar's mind in perhaps the most-intimate way possible.  Yes, the tiny connection was still there, and so far, unnoticed.

Mar gasps over and over again, grasping at where wound on his chest was in panic and surprise. His eyes widen in shock,  and his body shudders and shakes uncontrollably. Human bodies were not designed to survive wounds like this, and when they do the results are traumatic. Nor are they designed to heal so quickly.

"H-Hel-Help Me!" Mar cries out in panic and fear toward Ike. He glances around, completely terrified, looking for anything familiar. Ike, his brother, is the only thing that he finds. Mar edges across the grass slowly toward him.

The Highest has rarely looked so disheveled in his long life, and never at the Bar. Only the certainty that the One is still watching, and a strange hint of a concerned other, prevents Mar from screaming bloody murder.

Ike rushes to Mar when Nyr flies off. He holds his friend, whoc should be dying from such a wound but isn't. "Are you alright, Mar? why did that guy attack you, then heal your wound?" What Nyr had said didn't really register in his panicked mind yet. "I need to get you checked out on my ship. There's no telling what that guy might have done to you. can you walk?" He wasn't sure if he could carry Mar, and he certainly wouldn't be able to defend him if he tried.

He looked towards the lake, where the enemy had flown. Hopefully he wouldn't come back too quickly.

Mar looks towards Ike worriedly and then slowly stood up on wobbly legs. He was still breathing way too deeply and quickly for it to be remotely healthy. He leans on Ike, exhausted. Nyr had...yes. Oh yes, now it was clear.

When Mar finally does say something, his words come out harsh and cold. "...I asked Nyr to show me the Truth, as someone appeared to be deceiving me. And now I see it again. I have...not returned Home. I have simply agreed to a temporary and possibly fruitless alliance with you and your Father. But I have nonetheless still agreed brother, and here we are."

He was not sure whether he wanted to thank Nyr or slaughter him. He suspected that was usually the case in relations between Highest. He would see the creature again.

"He claimed to be able to show you the 'truth', which involved stabbing you with a sword?" Ike asked. "How about the next time you agree to something like that, make sure it doesn't look like the guy is trying to kill you to do it."

"I'm glad you decided to stick with me, even if The One isn't exactly who you think he is. Whether that's really true or not, given that you don't know this guy and I don't see a reason to trust him."

He helped Mar back to the ship, keeping a wary eye on his surroundings. Once at the ship, he guided Mar to a table where he could use the tech to get some information and see if anything else was wrong. He also brought one of the orbs that allowed a connection to The one, and placed it by the table to get a spiritual sense of what Nyr took out or put inside him.

"He'll probably be back, to finish what he plans to do to you. I don't want to be walking around, armed to the teeth, though. It would be best if we could lay some sort of trap for him. I may need to ask The One for a favor if he's going to start attacking my friends. I'm not sure exactly what I'd need, though."

Elriss skids to a stop as the newcomer, the strange one, unfurls wings. The feeling she gets from him... from all three of these people... is something akin to fear, or maybe love, or a terrible, childlike sense of wonderment. There is more going on here than she realizes... and for a moment, she can see. There are possibilities untold at this bar... endless worlds that can be opened up, explored, devoured by the Empire... if she chooses to include the Empire. She could always simply see what lies on the road ahead without them...

The thought... rather, the incomplete thought that is little more than a feeling passes quickly, and she is left feeling dizzy, and even hungrier than before. Her time to find a source of Kandrona is running short. She watches cynically as the newcomer flies away, then returns her eyes to Ike and Mar. She steps closer, so far unnoticed, and listens to what they have to say.

She hesitates when Ike begins to help Mar towards his ship. She doesn't like Mar... and really, she's just using Ike, isn't she? Her time is short and there's work to be done... there's nothing to be gained from helping these two at the moment... so why the hesitation?

"I swear you're rubbing off on me," she mutters to her host as she steps to Mar's side, helping Ike half-walk, half-carry him to a ship.

When she finally speaks, her breath is shorter than it should be, and her voice is raspy. "Oh, sure," she says sarcastically, "let's just get into a fight with the telekinetic winged harbinger of stabbing people in the chest. What a great idea that was, gentlemen." She looks disdainfully at the orbs Ike has brought out. "What is this, granny's down-home magic medicine? Ike, honey, do you have any real medical supplies?"

"I'm not sure what happened to make that guy stab Mar in the chest, but I couldn't just do nothing about it."

"I have an array of modern technology, but in case you haen't noticed this problem is not purely physical. There are spiritual forces going on here that you may not be aware of." He said. "Unless you think those wings that sprouted were mechanical in nature?"

"Thanks for helping, though."

"He was trying to remove the One from association with me, at my request," stated Mar, lying down on the table in front of Ike. "The sword was merely a means to an end. I care little for this body." Mar took off his jacket, vest, and shirt so that Ike could see the utter absence of the wound. His heart rate and demeanor were still tense, however. Mar looked toward Elriss with a wry grin. "...interesting that you are now involved, Yeerk."

Ike's instruments detected no significant alterations to Mar's Mass, although it seemed to be far more active and perhaps virulent than it was previously. Its tendrils were twisted around the light belonging to his Father in an intricate pattern. It was almost like a dance.

"Ike, I doubt he plans to finish," Mar states, his reaction somewhat delayed. "Although it would be wise of you to petition our mutual friend for an advantage should a threat arise."

"Why would something like that come up? If you hae become dissatisfied with being with The One, you could have come to me or possibly prayed to The One yourself. Or did this guy bring up something, and convince you to let him stab you?" Ike said with concern and skepticism. The machines finished their scans, and Ike checked them. "Ok, there's nothing physically wrong with you that I can tell. I also didn't see anything that he might have taken out or put inside you."

"I'll try to figure something out about this. I would suggest not letting yourself be alone with this guy again. I know I'm not your boss, and you may not need your body, but that's my advice."

"I can agree to that request," says Mar, shrugging a bit. "Unless the Highest says something else which catches my interest. But there are multiple ways one can skin a cat, and many ways to communicate that do not involve having bodies." Mar slowly sits up off the table, attempting to adjust to the sudden physical shock he had gone through. A tingling runs up and down his body, similar to somebody's foot being asleep, and Mar shakes his right arm as if to get it out of his system.

"This guy, as you put it, brought up the strange link between our Father and me," Mar says. "I realized that I had been...using my relationship with our Father to deceive myself. Tricking myself into believing I could go home again. But you know what they say! You can never go home again."

Mar shrugs with a wry smirk on his face. "Oh, and give that lady some Kandrona if you have any. She did come all the way here."

"Honestly I would take anything that Highest says with a handful of salt. I can't force you to not listen to him, so I\ll just leave you with that advice. Some stranger said something's wrong with you, and runs you through with a sword. That's just a tad suspicious to me."

"I'm afraid I don't carry sources of Kandrona. There's not much I can do, unless she joins with us. Or if we can manage to steal some from the other controllers."

"You're absolutely right, although I view things from a...unique perspective," says Mar, holding back a laugh. He keeps stroking the spot where his wound used to be, as if unnerved that it had suddenly disappeared despite understanding the reason for its disappearance. Mar then sighs, noting his complete lack of muscle definition in his still bare chest. "This is depressing. I even have a bit of fat on me."

After a few moments, Mar states, looking at Ike, "Well, we're done here. If there is no Kandrona, we should move back to the Bar."

Mar picks up his shirt and puts it on, meticulously pushing down the wrinkles in it that he can.

Elriss listens to the conversation between Ike and Mar. When Ike scoffs at her supposed-ignorance in the matter of the nature that newcomer's wings, she sighs. The nature of whatever the crazies here are always going on about is still alien to her. "I swear, it's like you're all living in some fantasy world," she mutters under her breath. Talk of Highests and Mar not caring about 'this body' and everything else... they're not making a bit of sense. When Mar's wound seems to have disappeared, she blinks, but finds she's not even really surprised anymore.

"If you two want to go sit around and drink, fine," she says haughtily, "but I have ships to search. No Kandrona is sort of a big deal for me." With that, she turns and heads back into the shipyard, towards the Bug. At the very least, she has to see what's behind the hidden panel she found.

Nyr flexes his wounds underwater.  They would still take time to heal, but the cool isolation at the bottom of the lake suits his purposes just fine.  He once again probes Mar gently...yes, the shock seemed to be going away, or at least Mar's perception of it was dulling.  Without pushing further, he would be able to tell little more, and pushing further might lead to detection.

The twilight air shivers and ripples, drawing back to reveal a black vessel, of traditional Yeerk design.

It's a Skimmer model, large enough to comfortably carry three or four passengers in addition to the pilot and co-pilot. It's also notably worn, with burn marks marring the black living metal hull.

As the ship lowers itself into the haphazard, alien parking lot, the nearby grass bends back, a hot wind making them double backwards. When the ship settles onto its landing gear the grass straightens back to attention. Bloodred lights dim and darken, and the whirring engine quiets, leaving a deep silence in its wake.

For a few long minutes, the ship sits there, closed and silent. When the hatch finally slides open, a human figure jumps to the ground without waiting for the ramp to extend. She is young -- no more than fifteen -- with long brown hair almost the exact shade of her eyes. Straightening, she shoulders a simple Jansport backpack and looks around, worrying her bottom lip.

"Not what I expected," she murmurs, a comment meant for no one and nothing. She glances back at her ship and calls for the hatch to close. Then, boots crunching over gravel and dirt, she begins to weave through the long-forgotten ships.

<<Are you sure this isn't a trap?>>

<<No.>>

The girl stops as she reaches the edge of the shipyard, the bar coming into view. Brown eyebrows lift at its dilapidated condition.

<<This is definitely a trap.>>

<<We don't know that for sure. Now be quiet.>>

Pulling the backpack onto both shoulders, she straightens her plain, gray tank top and strides to the bar, gaze wary. Pushing open the door with a shoulder, she blinks in the threshold, letting her eyes adjust to the dim light.
