"So tell me what you know about the Yeerks, Conner? I know some things, obviously, but I'd like to know more. I guess about Andalites too. I'm kind of on a personal mission to meet new people and find out what I can about the galaxy."

Mar looks vaguely disappointed that Haviss won't infest him--- it would be interesting to see whether the Yeerk could make anything more of the Highest's peculiar memories than Mar could make himself. Or interesting to completely ruin his mind and watch the Yeerk convulse on the floor. Or horrify him. So many possibilities! "Too bad," states Mar with a strange smile at Haviss. It's passably benign. "I was looking forward to it. Regardless..."

Mar frowns slightly. "...what exactly do you need our help with? If you're looking for your brother-in-arms, she seems to have gone outside."

"That reassures me a little, I suppose," says Gallant casually, although really it didn't reassure him at all. How could everyone at the entire hovel be lost? "You could lead me back, if you'd like. Although you seem to be in a hurry to go the other way. Is...is there something dangerous up there?"

She seemed fine though, if a bit drunk. Her inebriation might even benefit him in the long run.

Elriss shakes her head vigorously, stumbles, and steadies herself by catching Gallant's shoulder. "Nope. Nothing dangerous, except I think the piano was trying to eat Ike when I left." She looks up, into Gallant's eyes, and flushes when she realizes how close their faces are. She quickly takes a step back, "I jus' have some business to take care of. I'll jus'..." she trails off, and hesitantly turns to continue walking into the woods, brushing dried mud from her hands.

After a few steps, she stops and turns back to him. "We're Rose, by the way."

"To be honest I know very little of either, it was a dying andalite who gave me my morphing ability. As for the yeerks, they are parasites. They take over your body through your mind. To me they see the lowest form of life" Connor said.

Haviss raises his eyebrows, withdrawing his hand. The curly-haired stranger doesn't seem interested in introductions. "I am looking for someone, but not her," he says to Mar. "She is convinced she can walk to Earth from here, and I'm interested to see how long it takes for her to return." His smile is brief, but smug. "No, I am looking for someone by the name of Terenia. Her birth name is Teresa Rerin. She inhabits an Andalite at the moment, or at least she did the last time we were in contact with her."

He tilts his head a little, catching a snippet of the conversation with Ike and the newcomer. "You best not say that too loudly, human," he says, raising his voice a little so Ike and Connor can hear. "Some of us might resent it."

"The Yeerks around here are a bit sensitive about being called negative things, and pretty unrepentant about the things they do." Ike said. "I tried talking to them about it, but they aren't changing easily. I guess if my people get into the war, we might just see how well they do in an open fight, instead of sneaking in under Human noses."

The shadows in the bar seem to shift, to grow darker. They begin to stretch and crawl, each splitting into strands no thicker than a strand of hair, a thousand thousand tiny worms of darkness, crawling across the tables and chairs and floor and ceiling and walls, crawling across even the patrons. There's a sense of light, of hope, from some of these, but that sense is quickly smothered by the crushing darkness, by the despair that these ever-darkening shadows seem to radiate. Behind those that leave, the original shadows of objects and patrons alike seem to re-form, but there are a few moments in which nothing is casting a shadow at all.

It becomes clear that the shadows are all crawling towards the same thing... towards the piano, in fact. As they slowly make their way to the piano, they begin to pile up, one on top of the other, until they've formed a shape... a vague, transparent shape, sitting at the stool, hands on the keys. It might be human, but it's hard enough to make out that there's no way to be sure. Its thoughts, its soul, are an endless cacophony of screams of pain and cries for help and moans of despair, but no sound can be heard from it. In fact, it seems to have dampened even the normal sounds of this quiet little bar, and the silence it brings with it is deafening. It's as though the very air itself has dropped ten degrees. Is that a smirk on the face of the bartender? No... no, his face remains as impassive as ever.

The shadow slowly, slowly solidifies, gains form. It is still transparent, but it is now possible to make out what this thing looks like. It might be a representation of a human, if one had never seen a human. Its short, egg-shaped body sprouts two spidery legs, too thin to be real, and two arms to match. Its spindly neck supports a head that's too large for its body, almost perfectly spherical. Its nose is too long and pointed, its mouth is too large, and its huge eyes are too green, but that face might still be that of a young boy. Atop its head sits a perfectly-groomed shock of reddish-brown hair, mostly covered by a brown newsboy cap. It wears what might be an old-time school uniform-- black dress shorts, and a white shirt with a black tie, topped off by a maroon vest. Its polished brown shoes are complimented by green socks that stretch up past its bony knees.

As its appearance solidifies, noises become audible as well. There is the piano, playing the same haunting, beautiful melody that Ike had played. There is also the thing's voice. It is a man's voice, deep and operatic and perfectly in harmony with the piano, navigating a complicated countermelody in a language that none of the bar's patrons have ever heard, words that even the bar seems unable or unwilling to translate. One repeated word stands out, however; "Venvolar." These sounds fade in from a whisper, ever-increasing towards their full volume.

The instant the thing's appearance is fully solidified, it leaps back from the piano with a yelp, falling on its back and taking the piano's stool with it. Though its singing and playing stop, it's almost as though they've continued for a moment even after its hands have left the keys. But that must just be the patrons' imaginations playing tricks, right?

The thing props itself up on its elbows, staring at the piano from its back. In the voice of a boy of perhaps ten or twelve, it says, clearly, "It bit us, Genwa!"

Ike looked silently at the spectacle, clutching his medallion for protection. He might have warned the thing about the piano, but it was too unreal for Ike to speak to it. The low, inhuman growling sound came again, as it did when the piano attacked, though again Ike took no notice of it. Something within him liked this place less and less.

Mar grins nastily at Haviss. "....I know this Terenia you're looking for. She's a whiny little snot with too many problems. She actually came to this very Bar a while back trying to drown out her sorrows, and we did talk quite a bit. A fun person to toy with, which..." Mar's eyes appear to glimmer another color, but the color fades. He rubs his head irritably. "...which may explain why she has so many problems."

Mar pauses, thinking, and then states, "Did Visser Three send you to look or is she merely the particular Imperial criminal you're targeting? A number of powerful Yeerks, including one variant of her own dead sister, take an interest in her."

As if on cue after he had finished, a chill suddenly runs down Mar's spine. Venvolar. The thought simply pops into his head without warning, and it signifies...somethi ng. Mar rubs his head again, trying to rid himself of these brief migraine-like spikes. His memory was broken, and he knew it. Not to mention that another Highest had almost certainly just passed through here. Mar glances at the creature near the the piano and simply states, "No good can come of that thing."

Her use of the plural was odd, but Gallant had no reason to complain. She was very drunk. "Nice to meet you Rose," he says, following her. "Whatever you're looking for, I can't say you'll find it in these woods while so inebriated. Can you lead me back to the Bar with you?"

He wasn't really sure this would work, but he wasn't going to just leave her out there in the cold. Gallant holds out his hand, shrugging. "It really would help."

Elriss hesitates, then turns back to Gallant. She knows what he's trying to do-- he's trying to flirt with her-- but she has important things to do. She has to... has to... do something...

"Okay," she says with a smile, taking his hand. "I'll show you the bar, but then I gotta go..." she waves in the general direction of the woods.

She takes the lead, walking surprisingly quickly towards the bar, considering her state, pulling Gallant along. She speaks as she walks, clearly believing she's making sense as Gallant's guide. "It's a pretty nice little place. Little rundown, and full of weirdos, but the bartender's got a behind on him an' the conversation is good." Or at least, the conversation with Haviss is good.

Haviss tilts his head. "Terenia was here?" he asks, suddenly all interest. He waves away Mar's questions dismissively. "She was in the captivity of the Yeerk Empire, not any particular Visser. They are far too busy to waste time with the sort of cretin I deal with. Visser Three...among other Vissers...occasiona lly request access to certain prisoners for their own entertainment, but their involvement ends there." His lip curls with obvious distaste towards the generals of his Empire.

"I am the...I suppose the closest equivalent on Earth would be the warden of an institution in which prisoners are held. Terenia, being one of the inmates, is my responsibility. She was released to a Visser's Blade Ship and was never returned to me. If I do not find her, I will be held responsible." He smiles, as pleasantly as possible. "Would you happen to know where she has gone? Whiny or not, she is a dangerous criminal. She--" He pauses, frowning. "Wait. Did you say dead sister?"

In his mind, Dan is suddenly paying full attention. <<That's not possible,>> he says quietly.

Connor says "I make no apology about my words. I have seen evil in humans as well though." After the dark form appeared Connor said "umm is that normal around here?"

"I hope not." Ike said, clearly disturbed by what he saw. He pushed away the scotch, deciding he had probably had enough to drink. "Don't take anything at face value, even if it looks tame." He glanced at the chair he was sitting on, as if that may start doing something suspicious. "You have ways to defend yourself, right"

Connor nodded, and said "yes, I can morph. I worked at a zoo so I have pretty big bad morphs. What about you?"

"Morph?" Ike asked. "I'm not quite sure what that means."

"I can perform some miracles, a few of which can help deal with hostile forces. Also I'm kind of carrying a concealed weapon." He mentioned the weapon in a lower tone. There wasn't much point in concealing a weapon if you advertised it. "The magic is mostly to distract. If I need to finish someone off, I bring out a more mundane tool. I don't deal death on a regular basis, though.
