Gene frowns, watching Terenia for a heartbeat before sitting down across from her.

"Why don't we head home, huh? I mean, if you want company, I can fly out with you." He glances over his shoulder at Dom. "He knows how to take care of himself."

Terenia shrugs, staring down at the table. "I guess. I just wanted to take a break from base, you know? Probably could've picked a better place." She looks up at Gene. "You don't have to babysit me, you know. I know you'd rather be having fun with Dom than watching me sulk."

"I'm not babysitting you Terenia," Gene says with a small smile, leaning on his arm. "I can't have fun when my friends are feeling bad."

He watches her for a moment. "And hell, from what it sounds like? You've been through a lot of...of...Terenia, I wish I'd known. That's...losing someone like that, it's so hard." He sighs. "We could have had our own pity fest a long time ago."

"I don't like talking about it," Terenia says with a small shrug. She looks towards the grimy windows, in the general direction of the lake. "I spent a long time -- years -- trying to save my sister, and in the end I just wind up killing her." She heaves a sigh. "It was stupid and I joined the rebellion to move on from that...that part of my life."

Salem's breath caught in his throat at Rathien's continued contact. He found himself imagining how this could turn out... how things could go... how much harm could just one time do? His eyes fluttered shut...

What am I thinking? a voice in the back of his head seemed to be saying to him. The whole little episode couldn't have lasted more than a second or two, but Salem could feel his ears growing hot. Losing control of himself here would never do.

He forced himself to smirk at Rathien, in what he hoped was a look of judgmental disinterest, but made no effort to move away. "Work before play, Rathien. You seem like a strong, independent kind of guy. I'm sure you can find a way to take care of your own needs. In the meantime, I have a job to work out. If you're lucky, it'll involve you, too."

Al caught the spiky-haired newcomer looking in his direction. He flashed a grin and tipped his hat. As he did, blue stripes seemed to trickle down the length of his tuxedo, the whole getup changing, quickly and subtly, until he was wearing a pinstriped suit that would have been right at home in the 1920's.

~Rathien~

Rathien reads Salem's reactions despite his facial expression.  Oh yes...this could become interesting...it would become interesting if Rathien has his way.  "Work before play means you never get off, Tobias."  He smirks back.  "Me, I think every opportunity should be seized with a firm grip and milked for all it's worth."

Rathien continues to control his facial features, but he knows his body must be pumping out pheromones like an animal in heat.  At least Salem couldn't detect those.  He has the feeling that were he and Tobias to play out even one of the scenarios that refuse to stop running through his head, the results would be stunning.  That hitch in Salem's throat betrayed an ability to lose control, and Rathien himself had always been a ferocious lover, abandoning himself to his base desires.  Such a deviant coupling would be...animal...raw.. .perhaps even frenzied.  Rathien bites down a bit on his lower lip to try and quench some of the fiery desire running rampant through his body.  The fabric of his flex-armor pants draw tight, almost painfully so, beneath the table before he finally manages to reign his imagination in and quell his body's response.  Yes...it would have to happen at some point, there was no dodging the certainty of that now.

"I'd be lucky?  I'm good, as good as you if not better.  You'd be the lucky one, Tobias.  If you choose to involve me that is."  Rathien takes a deep breath, trying to focus on the mundane portions of their interplay.

Upon removing the crystal casing, Austin said to Simon 'Now, we need to slowly remove the crystal, careful to not damage it, or the surrounding components.' Earthing himself on the metal bench, he carefully pulled the crystal out and placed it on a rag.

Removing the rest of the screws holding the casing, he removed the center section, revealing a rather complex looking circuit board and three refraction lenses about five centimeters in diameter. 'These lenses focus the energy that's transmitted from the battery pack through the circuit board, then through the crystal to produce the resulting laser beam.'

'It's a fairly complex piece of machinery, but once it's put together I'll give you a demonstration' he chuckled as he carefully removed the lenses and started unscrewing the circuit-board.

"And you keep coming here to...what, punish yourself by reminding yourself of your past?" Gene asks softly. "Trust me, Terenia, that's not the way to live your life. I've done that to myself for far too long."

"It's an interesting piece of machinery. If things like this are common in your world, I see you are fairly well off in scientific progress." Simon worked on taking other parts of the machine apart for organizing and salvage. "I hear there's a makeshift firing range around here that we can test the new weapon on. Someone mentioned it while I was at the table with him, though I doubt the invitation included me. While attempting to make friends with someone at his table, I seemed to have annoyed him somehow into disliking me."

"It appears that I'm a bit of a masochist," Terenia responds glumly. "I've never been good at pulling myself out of the past. I've done too many ****ty things."

Dom's grin widens when he sees the holographic shift in apparel and he takes up the drink, nodding to his current company. "If you'll excuse me," he says. "I believe my attention is needed elsewhere." He backs away from them, moving to where Al is sitting.

"My dear friend," he says brightly, "you simply must tell me how you do that." His eyes wander down the suit appreciatively.

Gene smiles mirthlessly. "You sound a lot like me," he sighs, shifting his weight to his other arm. "Except I guess I haven't done too many awful things. I just blame myself for things that I can't go back and change, and I make myself feel guilty far too much."

He turns to glance over at Dom again, rubbing the back of his neck. "Terenia, do you want a drink?" he asks quietly.

She smiles faintly. "You know, if you buy me a drink this constitutes a date," she says quietly. "At least, I'm pretty sure those are the rules." She watches him for a moment, then reaches over and snags his hand. "You shouldn't feel bad about anything, Gene," she says. "You're one of the most genuine people I've ever met. If you can't feel good about yourself, then I'm a lost cause."

The stranger trudges barefoot through the wasteland of his homeland, a solid days trek from his shelter, scavenging. It's a relatively cool day, little more than one hundred and eight degrees fahrenheit, cool enough to walk without a helmet and feel the sun on his scales.
An arid sun burns high in the midday sky, the rays of light reflecting off the strangers full body copper armor, an aesthetic choice of colour as well as a tactical one to help the stranger blend in with the desert wasteland that surrounds him. The stranger stops, stretching, arms outstretched. The day has been comfortably easy so far. The hydraulics and mechanics of his armor have done most of the hard work of his trek for him and the built-in temperature regulators have kept his body temperature comfortably high. The comfortable weight of the rifle slung over the strangers right shoulder reassures him of his safety and the greater weight of his woodcutters axe similarly reassures the stranger of his preparedness for a close quarters encounter.
Tasting the air with a forked tongue, the strangers tail twitches lazily from left to right, a sign of his content, a slight clicking noise eliciting from his beak.

A small glint of light caught the strangers attention, his slitted, bronze eyes quickly focusing on the source nearly twenty feet away. Curiously, the stranger approached the object. If he was lucky, the stranger hoped to find electrical components that he could wire to the solar cells of his shelter, or a fusion cell to use as backup power for his rifle. His armor was in no need of power yet, its' own core still holding enough power for another two generations, but he could always use more scrap materials to serve as ammunition.

Wait. Spoke his armors AI, the induction audio utilizing sub-sonic vibrations to send minute vibrations through the strangers bones and scales, stimulating his ear drums to communicate silently with its' wearer. Light refraction denotes possible explosive charge. Continued the AI, its' 'voice' a deep vocal distortions that was all too familiar to the stranger, Either a discarded mine or grenade. Scavenger trap is also a possibility.

The stranger hissed quietly in agitation. He'd been reckless, approaching the object with no sense of cautions. He'd started relying too much on his armors' AI and had neglected his own common sense and forethought. Slowly unslinging the rifle from over his shoulder, the stranger gripped the weapon firmly in his clawed hands. He knew that he had no chance of hiding with his helmet off, the green of his scales stood in stark contrast to the barren wasteland around him, causing the stranger even greater agitation due to his own ignorance.
Creeping forward slowly, the stranger crept closer towards the object. Suddenly, he heard the sand shift behind him as the ground gave way behind him, just under his foot, causing the stranger to careen backwards.
Pungi pit trapdoor behind us. The AI remarked, uselessly as the stranger toppled back.

Suddenly, with a crash of what sounded like smashing glass, the stranger landed heavily on a countertop, the barren sky suddenly replaced by an unfamiliar ceiling.

Gene grins sheepishly, letting his hand worm around in hers so he can grip her palm.

"Thanks, Terenia," he says earnestly, hoping she won't notice that his own palm is clammy with sweat.

He opens his mouth to say more, but is interrupted by a riotous crash through the bar's ceiling.

With a start he pulls his hands back, his right automatically going for his Dracon, fumbling. He turns and stares at the mess of splinters and armor and tail that has appeared, unceremoniously, on top of the bar counter.

The bartender, calmly drying his glass, turns his pudgy and apron-clad form towards the new arrival. He stares blankly at the stranger, constantly rubbing at smudge of grease on the dirty beer stein, over and over. The dark-haired man--or creature--says nothing.

~Ossanlin~

Ossanlin watches the curious human move off toward the simulated humanoid before a crash of metal on wood and glass triggers his combat training.  He steps away from the cacophony and immediately arches his tail, his dual katana flowing from their saiya fluidly, almost seeming to appear in his hands as his arms flow into combat readiness.  His senses grow heightened as he surveys all angles of the bar with both stalk-eyes, his main eyes locked on the strange, armored figure laying on the bar counter.
