"Yeah, we're still uh, doing well," Gene replies easily, tucking a bit of his curly hair behind an ear. He starts, too, at the loud entrance of the injured soldier.

With trembling hands he pulls out his comm link, ready to put Terenia's suggestion into action, but he is stalled by the incoming hail.

"See?" he snorts, swiveling the glowing holoscreen in Terenia's direction. "Audio and visual. Oh, dear." He rolls his eyes and answers the call with a smile. "Hi, Dom."

The image that appears on screen is of a man in his early thirties with tan skin and European features. His dark hair is gelled carefully upward and tipped in bright blue. His dark blue eyes are accentuated with a light line of eyeliner and his lips, pulled back in a grin, shine faintly with lip gloss.

"My dear Gene," he says brightly, speaking with an accent that could be placed as vaguely Slovak in descent. "Where in the world are you? I have been looking everywhere." His grin becomes somewhat sly. "I have a surprise for you, moj prijatelj."

Terenia rolls her eyes and takes a drink of her water.

"I'm totally not eavesdropping," she says, turning to face the other direction and grinning to herself.

Gene leans on an arm, smirking. "I'm at the Bar," he replies. "I have a surprise for you, too. But I have to get myself back there, first."

He shoots Terenia a deprecating look. "Yes you are," he says, picking up a napkin and chucking it at her.

Terenia laughs, ducking the napkin. "Yeah, well. I never claimed to be respectful of other people's privacy," she says unabashedly.

Dom is shaking his head in disbelief. "Please do not tell me you mean that miserable hole-in-the-wall dive bar," he says, making a clucking sound with his tongue. "Gene, you are better than that. They do not even have clean floors, let alone a dedicated dance floor!" He grins again. "Do I need to come and retrieve you, my friend?"

Gene snorts at Terenia's comment. "I don't think it's really possible to be private, in this place," he drawls.

To Dom he replies, "Yes, that bar. No, I can fly a ship, and I'm not drunk or in need of rescuing." He rolls his eyes. "Well. Not yet, anyway." He inspects the floor around their table. "Would you even want to dance here? I feel like taking about a hundred showers, and I'm not even barefoot."

He peers back up at Dom. "You know, we could clean this place up a bit, maybe put in some lighting." He grins.

Jocun made it to his ship, and got supplies. He grabbed some 0+ blood for a transfusion, hoping the guy with different ears was Human enough to take Human blood. He also got other first aide supplies to suture the wounds and relieve pain.

"You think?" Dom asks, leaning forward in interest, resting his chin on the tips of his well-manicured fingers. "Hm, perhaps, my friend. It would be a fun project, no? Yes, I think I may pay this place a visit, even if you do not require, ah, rescuing. I can still try, can I not?" He flashes a bright grin. "Expect me shortly. Pozdrav."

With that promise his visage disappears entirely and Terenia turns back towards Gene.

"He's coming here?" she asks, her grin replaced with an uncomfortable, deer-in-the-headlights look. "Ah...maybe I should be going."

<<Oh come on,>> Esreth protests. <<He's fun!>>

Gene watches the blank holoscreen, eyebrows raised, a thumb running thoughtfully along his chin.

"I'll be right back," he says, scooting his chair back and making his way to the bar counter. He gestures for the bartender, and after a couple of quiet words he has the silent creature's notepad and pen in his hands. Gene scribbles something, clicks the pen, and holds both pad and pen out.

When the bartender doesn't respond, Gene gingerly sticks them both into the pudgy human-looking thing's apron. With a bright smile plastered onto his face, Gene steps back towards his table.

"That was weird," he breathes, sitting back down. "Does he, like, just never talk?"

"Not that I've ever seen," Terenia says, glancing at the bartender and then back to Gene. "He's creepy as hell, isn't he?"

She takes a sip of water, swirling the glass a little as she debates whether or not she should leave.

<<No,>> Esreth says firmly. <<Not yet.>>

"So, What'd you order, hm?" The mischievious glint in her eye indicates that the Yeerk has likely taken control.

"Creepy, yeah," Gene mutters, but he smiles and pokes at his empty beer glass, pushing it between his hands. "What I ordered was between me and him."

"So secretive," Esreth says, rolling her eyes and grinning good-naturedly. Smirking, she prods at Gene's side, poking him between the ribs. "I bet I could figure it out pretty easily, but fine. Don't tell me. I'm going to go irritate our Andalite friend over there." She nods towards Ossanlin. "Figure I may as well make Terenia as miserable as possible while we're here."

She snickers a little, pushing herself to her feet and striding over to where Ossanlin is speaking with Parker. "Hey there, how's it going grass-eater?" she asks, giving the Andalite captain a good-natured grin and helping herself to a nearby seat, spinning it around and sitting on it backwards. "Long time no see. Well. Long time never see for me, I suppose. Long time no see for Terenia."

~Ossanlin~

<I do not know who has told you about my ascended state, but they have informed you incorrectly.  Never once have I "left" my body...my entire body changes.  As I said, I do not become a spirit or an apparition...I am still a physical being and still within my own body...>  His stalk eyes register the approach of Terenia.

He arches his eyebrows as she speaks up, but he controls the rest of his facial features as she confesses to being a Yeerk.  <Interesting...infes tation.  After complaining about living with extra "voices" in her head for years, she chooses to let yet another in.  I assume she accepted you voluntarily...>

"Do you really find it necessary to ask?" Esreth counters, her own eyebrows raising in turn, though the smile remains on her face. "If she were involuntary, I wouldn't be likely to admit it to an Andalite. Besides, considering your continued presence in the lives of various rebellion members you should know better than to assume any of us would take a host against their will."

She lifts a shoulder in a shrug and offers Ossanlin a hand. "Esreth Two-One-Six, of a tiny shipboard pool that was too unimportant to bother giving an official designation. Which really just makes my full designation far wordier than necessary, because I have to explain that every single time."

<<Do you have to be so...bubbly?>> Terenia asks sourly. <<You're making me look-->>

<<Sociable? Likable?>> Esreth finishes for the human.

<<I was going to say 'like an idiot', but sure. Whatever floats your boat.>>

"Ow," Gene scowls, although he is smiling again by the time Terenia and Esreth are making their way toward Ossanlin. He rubs at his side with a sourly amused expression, peering around the room.

He gives the bartender an awkward glance, but settles for going back to his beer bottle.

After another few seconds he surreptitiously squints over at Terenia and Ossanlin. The idea of making small talk with an Andalite...he can't help but shiver.

Maybe it'll be good for you, huh? he berates himself internally. You can't assume they're all your enemy.

Clearing his throat, he ultimately decides to push back his chair, dragging his half-empty beer bottle with him.

By the time he is by Terenia's side again, she is about ready to shake the Andalite's hand.

"Apparently I'm your shadow today," Gene murmurs to Esreth, smiling sheepishly at Ossanlin.

~Ossanlin~

Ossanlin takes in the information before raising his own hand in the traditional human greeting and grasping Terenia's hand with one much stronger than the usual frail appendage of a typical andalite.  <Ossanlin-Rethin-Sephirel, Captain of the Tyrennian, a Mark III Dome Ship.  And I once thought I knew what the Rebellion would and would not do, until I was recently and quite rudely disabused of that particular misconception.>  He notes Gene's approach, but keeps his main eyes on Terenia.
