"Oh," Gene tells Parker idly. "Well, here's hoping we don't have a run-in with the aliens from your Earth; we've already got our hands full with an invasion of our own."

He clears his throat, becoming uncomfortable from the discussion about bounty hunters. "Is your only experience with Yeerks from your time here at the bar, then?"

"I think I'd have to agree. If aliens from Parker's universe came here, we'd likely be in trouble given that soldiers need that kind of protection to defend from them." Jocun said.

Parker nodded, "Indeed it is. The only Yeerks I've met are from the rebellion or otherwise disconnected from your Empire; except Zorish within Tamora, of course. So it's just the rebellion between your Earth being completely overrun?"

Esreth shakes her head. "There's a Peace Movement on Earth. Or several Peace Movements, I suppose. Unfortunately, they don't get much done. That's sort of what happens when you're part of a pacifistic movement." She rolls her eyes, looking amused. "Many rebels started out there, then decided they actually wanted to do something, not just sit on their asses and complain."

"From what I remember, the only resistance after the Dome Ship was destroyed in the beginning was only a handful of people using the ability to morph to do what they could before being found out by Visser One. They did accomplish some things, though, to their credit."

Salem watched, curiously, as Rathien walked towards him. It wasn't until the blades were already swinging towards his neck that he realized it; Rathien was going to kill him, here and now. It didn't matter whether he believed Salem about the nanites or not. It didn't matter that his cloak was failing- he was dimly aware of the pool of blood that had formed around his right leg, soaking the cloak clean through and dulling its properties to the point of uselessness.

No, all that mattered now was that this was the end. Salem pressed his eyes shut and waited. He waited for what felt like a long time, until Rathien spoke, asking him why he hadn't run away or died.

"Couldn't die," he choked out, his voice sounding raspier than he remembered. "Too much else to do."

Rathien collapsed at his side. Either it was far more sudden than Salem had expected, or he hadn't been paying attention. The hunter was almost close enough to reach out and touch. For a moment, Salem considered doing exactly that. Why was Rathien lying down too? Nanites? Oh, right! Nanites!

The nanites weren't acclimated to Ildari physiology- they would use Rathien as their base-point, but the road to their eventual knowledge of his body might be a little rough. It was one of the things Salem liked least about these nanites- they could be particularly invasive in pursuit of a baseline of knowledge. It happened differently every time, but it was never much fun.

These were all things Salem thought, but the only thoughts that he managed to verbalize came out as an honest, if not entirely clear, "Don't know how long that'll last." In his current state, Salem couldn't really remember what he'd said and what he'd only thought, or if there was a difference between them. He followed up with another "Don't know how long that'll last," which proved equally insightful the second time around.

He looked at the hunter... he didn't want to be here when Rathien got up, did he? He tried to sit up, only to be reminded sharply of his broken leg. If only he could get better... didn't Terenia get better somehow? Morphing, right? Salem remembered telling himself that Morphing was good for healing. That might work.

After a few tries, he was able to hold the image of a Kafit bird in his mind. While he wondered how one bird could remember to flap so many wings, he found himself shrinking.

"I've only heard rumors of people with the ability to morph, on Earth," Gene says with a shrug. "Some sort of rogue group of Andalites, from what I always heard."

He glances at Parker. "Let's just say Imperial Yeerks don't tend to make their way here very often. In fact, I never quite imagined I'd find this place." He smirks. "Nor that I'd meet people from what's clearly another universe."

Parker listened with interest, "Good to know there's hope for that Earth at least." He comments to Gene, "I didn't mean to come here at all. From what I've seen, very few of those who come here elect to do so." He changes the subject, "So what brings you to this place?"

Gene barks a laugh. "Well, unlike most people, especially most humans? I knew this place existed. Turns out you can get quite a few difficult-to-find things here, and to be honest, I was curious to see what it was like after hearing about it for so long. A couple of my acquaintances back at the base are regulars here, not to mention Terenia." He grins at her, good-naturedly.

Parker raised an eyebrow, "'Difficult-to-find things?' I haven't noticed any wares to be sold other than the food. What things would you be looking for here? I have to ask, if you've heard so many stories, no doubt you've heard of the dangers. Why would you be so curious to be in a place that randomly breaks out in brawls?"

"Let's just say there are certain drinks that can be found here and probably nowhere else in the galaxy," Gene says primly.

"Good food and drink is always appreciated." Jocun said, enjoying his meal and drink. "Maybe if this place had a proper bouncer it would be better about the bar brawls."

Terenia rolls her eyes up at Gene. "And many of us found our way to the rebellion through this bar, so I suppose it has more than one thing going for it."

She snickers a little at the mention of certain drinks, but offers no commentary, instead looking over at Jocun. "A proper bouncer would have kicked me out a long time ago," she says. "And the bouncer that does hang out around here isn't someone I want to ever meet."

"This place does have a bouncer? He's certainly not quick with reacting to danger, it would seem. Or she.

Parker scoffed at the mention of a bouncer, "That bouncer would have to be extremely impressive to stop many of those who threatened this place."
