<That's kind of creepy. I think we have laws against adult males being one with young males in any way.> From his description, it looked like Claxter would have time before anything really bad happened. <You don't want to be isolated? Fine. Just stay with me, follow my orders, and don't inject nanoprobes into anyone else.>

Van walked towards the Bar. Since he had last been there, the atmosphere had... changed.

There was an intense feeling of tension in the air, as if the building was holding its breath. Van cringed. This was definitely not a situation he should mess around with. The pirate brushed his fingers through his hair, untangling the mess as best he could, and glanced around.

Maybe having a chat with Ewa some more would help? Perhaps, though he didn't quite sense her presence. That chick has a serious talent for stealth. Throw in her presto-change-o ability to change her appearance, and she'd make a great smuggler. Heh, perfect for my line of work. Mmm, chaa. I should ask her about that.

He scanned the Bar again for her, but then remembered he had more important things to do. Van had turned to leave in order to tend to his ship, when somebody caught his eye. And, it wasn't Ewa. That face. He'd recognize that face anywhere.

Ready to call him out, Van stopped himself as soon as he realized that the individual was rather... weak at the moment. Interesting.

He blinked, and noticed the woman beside him. Suddenly curious, Van walked over, "Anh, Oligarch Mar-zhen! You don't look too well... Mmm. Nichaa, who's the lady?"

The pirate looked her over, then rested his gaze rested once again on the weakened Mar. He smiled, and licked his lips, satisfied.

Well, well. You look like quite pathetic. Where's your Armada? I think I'm going to enjoy this.

Ogreon walked over to the man with Van, "Do you know him?"

Turning to the man, who looked bedraggled and beaten, "I am Ambassador Ogreon of the UAI Urtahn. My doctor just treated this man here for a broken bone. You look tired and injured yourself. Would you like any help?"

Elayne's eyebrows shoot downwards as Mar is addressed rather familiarly, and she watches Van suspiciously. "My name's Elayne," she says, pushing her dark hair out of the way with an impatient flick of her hand. "And I can speak for myself. Who are you?"

The change in her tone of voice around strangers is noticeable, particularly when addressing ones that appear to know her injured, and rather unpopular, boyfriend harm.

Van grinned at Ogreon, and replied, "Vangulsi- Anh, I mean, that guy, Ambassador, is Oligarch Mar Le'saith. A top dog of our so-called The Galactic Federation."

The pirate shifted his weight slightly, and then frowned. Something wasn't right about Mar. His hair was too long, and too... white. His clothing was also very... odd.

Van clenched his teeth, Gabo... Renfe va Mar-zhen nani vangulsaa? Zhon! Just what is the big-deal?

His wandering thoughts were cut short by the woman, who referred to herself as Elayne. That terse attitude... Van couldn't help but be rather tickled by it. She reminded him of someone he knew back home, and he felt his heart jump.

Flirting, however, seemed hardly appropriate. It never exactly won over the person she reminded him of, and it seemed unlikely to work here.

"Ah, he might know me," Van said, his pitch rising and falling in rhythmic pattern, "I'm called Van Aldbaran. I am a mercenary, pirate, smuggler... The outlaw."

"Last I saw him," he pointed at Mar, "He was the in-law. Ah, that's not right... The word, zaa... Which was it? The Gee Man? The... The British Navy... man?"

Van's struggling was rather comical, yet not without its intentions. Mess up a language enough times, and people tend to dismiss you as an idiot. When he wasn't burning ears off with his native sing-song twang, Van would discuss his terms in frighteningly proper speech.

Ogreon tilted his head and brought a shoulder up, what passed for raising an eyebrow, "So-called? So your Federation is not benevolent? Oligarch implies something other than a democracy. Ironic they should have such a similar title to the Transgalactic Federation...uh, not to draw to much attention to myself and my own universe, you seem to be...preoccupied."

After Van introduced himself to the lady known as Elayne, Ogreon raised his front two legs and performed a human bow, "And I am Ambassador Ogreon of the UAI Urtahn."

Ossanlin's eyes shoot open as he suddenly regains consciousness.  His dreams had been...uncomfortabl e at best.  He seemed to remember his dreams now...in their entirety.  Before, they had always sunk into oblivion a few moments after he woke, but not anymore.  Some dreams were perhaps best left forgotten.

It takes Ossanlin a moment to realize where he is, the med-bay on the Mirage.  He commands the computer to relay the position of any other life-forms on the vessel.  Finding none, he commands the restraint field to release and he sets his hooves on the floor.  He quickly grabs a support rail riveted to the wall.  Yes...weakness...ve ry weak.  But he could feel his strength returning, a sort of warmth spreading throughout his body.  The energy...the places he had gone during that battle, at least spiritually...were unlike anyting he'd ever experienced.  Mar...he hoped Mar was alright.

Ossanlin feels twinges of pain and looks down at his arm, side, and flank.  Dried blood marks large gashes opened up by his competitor's weapons.  Blood begins to trickle again as his movement re-opens the wounds.  He grunts in the Andalite fashion and closes his eyes, focusing on his hork-bajir form.  The changes begin slowly, his skin scaling and his pupils changing to snake-like slits.  Then the changes increase in speed until twenty seconds later, a fully-formed hork-bajir stands grasping the rail.  Ossanlin considers reversing the morph immediately but decides that the more-substantial hork-bajir frame might be easier to support in his weakened state.

Ossanlin lets go of the support rail and leans against the wall of the med-bay, making his way to the exit ramp.  He commands it open and slowly descends, his legs gaining strength with each step.  Yes...he's coming back from that cold abyss.  He sets his large, reptillian feet on the surface of the planetoid and blinks a bit before walking a few steps away from the Mirage and commanding the hatch to close, locked again to his thought-command alone.  He looks around the shipyard trying to spot anyone in the vicinity, namely Mar.  He wants to confirm that the other being is alright.

Ossanlin notices the strange mechanoid Andalite some ways off, and that would make the other Andalite with him Claxter.  His eyes then fall upon the crumpled form of another Andalite quite reminiscent of Efaen.  He huffs as he limps toward her prone form...had she disobeyed him?  Had she somehow gotten too close to that strange human warrior?  Was she injured?  Why was no one assisting her?  He notices Corliss and Illim also standing some distance away, though making no moves to assist her.

He kneels next to her, grunting vocally.  <Efaen...are you conscious?  Where is your injury?>  He scans her body with his eyes, noting no visible marks or wounds.  He places a single finger on her neck, monitoring her blood-flow.  It seems at a normal, relaxed pace.  Strange that she was unconscious with stable vitals.  He places the same sensitive finger on her cheek, she seemed to have good temperature.  Either she was having some sort of neural dysfunction...or she'd been stunned.  Ossanlin notes her position on the gravel...there were no opponents in front of her unless they had run away, she had had her back to Corliss and Illim...why had she been stunned?

"You two, did you see what happened?  Was she in a fight?"  Ossanlin calls vocally to Corliss and Illim in Gallard.

Claxter finally got the communication that Ossanlin was awake, and trotted towards the Mirage. He was next to Efaen now, in Hork-Bajir form and talking to Corliss. He stood by his Prince, but said nothing. Let the Yeerk explain himself. He kept an eye towards Theta. He'd have to watch this guy carefully. The shredder he had drawn on the disturbed Andalite was still out, and he didn't feel like putting it back.

Corliss doesn't spare Salem or Illim a glance, glaring down at Efaen's body.

<<Great,>> Mike sighs.  <<Now you've shot her.  Tell me, do you intend to drag her body back with my bloody arms?>>

He only looks up with the big Hork-Bajir steps over and checks Efaen's pulse.

Corliss' eyes narrow at the thought-speech voice, then at the vaguely familiar, gravelly Hork-Bajir one.

"Ossanlin?" he asks skeptically, lowering his Dracon.  "You're alive.  I...I'm glad.  No, she wasn't in a fight."  He hesitates, swallowing.  "I stunned her.  She's coming back to the base for interrogation."

The words fall flat and his shoulders sink.

<<What am I doing?>> he wonders silently.

Ossanlin looks down at Efaen and then back up at Corliss again, eyes a bit wide in disbelief at first.  They narrow quickly though.  <Yes, it is me, and yes, I'm alive.  You certainly sound relieved.>  Ossanlin's thought drips with sarcasm.

<It doesn't matter, you do not have to like me just as I do not have to like you.  However when you meddle with a Warrior under my command, it is very much my business.>

Ossanlin looks back at Efaen, knowing that she should be able to "hear" him in some sense.  <Efaen, please attempt to regain consciousness, it is important that I hear the details of this interchange.>

He stands and walks a bit closer to Corliss, standing between the controller and Efaen.  <Coming back to the base for interrogation?  What complete...what is it the humans say?  What complete bull...is that not the expression?  You told me earlier that Efaen has decided upon her own authority to join the rebellion.  Did she change her mind?  And from the position of her body, she was in a relaxed stance, most-likely walking away from you...so you must've shot her in the back when she clearly trusted you not to do so.  Oh and I should also mention that you have a living memory of Efaen in Terenia, so what end would an interrogation serve?  And even if an interrogation were justified, why not do it on the premesis where her commanding officer would also have access to the information?>

<This does not sit well Corliss.  Were it not for your relation to Myitt, I would detain you for interrogation regarding this incident.  It seems that every time I begin to trust you, you show me why I should not.  Efaen will not be going with you, especially not after this.  Whether you like it or not, she is a living, breathing, sentient being...not a vessel for a disgruntled and dysfunctional human Yeerk notlit.  All you are doing is harming Terenia's chances of ever having the usage of her own original body again.  Why should Efaen have even a single iota of desire to cooperate after this?>  Ossanlin holds his fist up between himself and the human-Controller.  <You are treading in dangerous water Yeerk.  Once Efaen regains consciousness I will hear the full story...if I feel you are unstable or are compromising the rebellion in any way, I will contact Reven and report such directly to him.  Whether you are brothers or not, Reven has the good of hundreds, no...thousands to think of...he can't afford to play favorites and neither can I.  Should you wish to give me a less falsified account of the situation, I will take it into consideration as well.  For now I must transport my Warrior to the Mirage to assist in her recovery from an apparently unprovoked and out-of-hand attack.>

Ossanlin turns and glances at Claxter.  <Hello Warrior, I will need assistance in transporting Efaen...I am somewhat weak at the moment.  Do you have a morph capable of transporting her?>

Ossanlin's thought-speech penetrates Efaen's subconscious, easing a bit of the blackness there. Her stalk eyes twitch slightly, but otherwise she shows no indication of moving. Her body remains inert, sprawled awkwardly on the gravel.

Terenia's frustration and panic is beginning to grow again. She is beginning to think that she truly has been abandoned. Trying to ward off another panic attack, she connects her palps to the pool's computer, trying to distract herself in the Yeerkish games available there.

<Yes, my Prince.> Claxter said. He began morphing the Gorilla-like alien which may be strong enough to get her to the Mirage on its own. Frankly, he hadn't tested the limits of its strength. Corliss was obviously untrustworthy, and he didn't like being vulnerable in front of him. <<Theta. If you wish to be...an inseperable partner to me, I would issue you a command. If either of those Yeerks looks like they're about to fire on us, shoot them.....non fataly.>>

Upon finding herself back in the bar, Ewa moved to inspect the wall that had reconstructed itself when she first arrived.  Projected reconstruction was easy.  They might have even drawn the debris together and just projected the end result.  It was an interesting phenomenon though--certainly the bar hadn't bothered to clean itself while it went about its repairs.

She ran her hands over the wall, but it felt exactly as her eyes told her it should.  She grabbed a nearby chair for comparison.  Only idiots project chairs.  But she still couldn't find a difference.

No difference, just like the clothes.... She began rubbing the hem of her coat between her fingers again.  Her mind went very still--not so that she would stop thinking but to give her thought space to crystallize, so that when it whispered it would echo once and lie quiet rather than slinking through the back of her mind.

What if this is real?

Too abstract to answer.

How can I know if this is real?

Theta did not move, We do not need to use our primitive thought-speak. Our(For now the word we would take new meaning for Claxter) interlink has been activated. The nanoprobes are working. We will monitor the Yeerks. There is one bit of information we must know; once the nanoprobes create larger implants, our morphs will be restricted. The nanotransmitter will not hinder our morphing, but we cannot morph anything smaller than one millimeter. Once the hyperadrenaline store is created, we will not be able to morph anything smaller than our fore-leg's circumference. Those are the smallest of the implants.

((All this would come to claxter in a nanosecond.))

Theta raised his finished SION claw, and prepared to level his quantryon weapon if the Yeerks moved.
