Best Moments in the Animorphs TV Series
« on: February 19, 2011, 09:46:41 PM »
I know what you're all thinking. You're thinking, "Tobias Mason Park, are you insanse? Choose the BEST moments from that horrible tv adapation of our favourite Animorphs series?"

No, I haven't gone insane. I think we bag on the show too much. Yea, it's a very, very bad show...You could even say it's an abomination and you wouldn't be too far off. But there has to be something good about the show. There has to be at least one moment in the entirety of the shows run that made you think, "You know what, maybe it isn't such a bad show."

So what would it be for you? What moment in the Animorphs TV show really did it for you?

Peter Jeremy and Marco's conversation in The Underground stands out to me, as does Visser One's Garden in The Leader Part 2. I really liked Tobias in the season finale, too; Christopher Ralph did a nice job with the acting in that one. I was pleasantly surprised.

Also: "No. More. FAILURES." for The Leader has given me so, so much joy. I for serious have a No More Failures banner on my door to commemorate that scene.

The end of "The Capture, Part 2", where Jake calls Tom to give him some hope. Despite getting the circumstances wrong (calling on a modified cell phone versus morphing half wolf), Shawn Ashmore and Joshua Peace did a good job at acting there. Did you see how Tom/Josh's hand shook at the end there?

I can't remember it word-for-word, but it's when they all meet at the Barn for the first time. Cassie's mom brings in the red-tailed hawk, and Tobias says "he's beautiful". Cassie's mom then says that "his mother was killed by poachers - we hatched him and raised him". To which Marco says "I bet he misses her" and Tobias comments "I bet he never even knew her".

BAM! Seriously, everytime I watched that scene it's just BAM. I think it was pretty good writing for the show, even if it was really simple.

There was one episode, I think it was the finale, where they had a school dance? And there was Jake/Cassie and Tobias/Rachel sap. And since I'm a sucker for sap... Yeah. I liked that scene.

Also, when Ax just kept staring at Marco until Marco finally agreed to dance with him. It was hillarious, because it was just so in character for Ax to just NOT GET why Marco thought this was weird.

Not a crazy thread at all. Like I said, I do believe there were some gems in the show. I just think the gems were more like the semiprecious stones you can "prospect" for at cavern tourist attractions for five dollars a bag. Enjoyable to look at, but not worth enough to save the investment.

I think the final lines in the Tobias/Ax bonding episode were great.

There were some good scenes in the series. A few listed were quite good, like when Marco and Tobias made comments about the hawk.

I don't really remember much that was good.

*cough* There are two Animorphs TV threads right now, so I guess I'm responding to both of them?

The show wasn't amazing, but it definitely had its moments. And I still stick by what I've said in the past: The fault was in the budget/network. Everyone is so quick to blame the writers, but what they don't understand is that TV writers have incredible amounts of restrictions. They can't just write an adaptation and say "Go make this!". No, there are budget, schedule, location, wardrobe, stunt, etc issues. And in the case of Animorphs: the list of available and trained animals.

It would have been less of a restriction if it were an animation, but the writers on this show worked with what they had, and you can see from some of the episodes that they did put some effort and thought into giving us some good stories: The season long Hirac Delest device (which was the disc that Elfangor gave them), the biologically created Kandrona-Free Yeerks, etc.

That said, I'll be the first one to tell you that the 'fights' in all of the episodes completely sucked. But again, this was also a budget issue. Everyone involved had to have known that there was no way they could have pulled this off on a live action kids show, AND with real animals. However, they did make up for this by keeping the drama, and coming up with some really funny moments, especially for Marco and Ax.

So yeah, it was a terrible adaptation. But I look at it the way I do with any old sci-fi now, and enjoy it for what it is.

Honestly that's the only scene I recall seeing from the TV show that I actually liked, but I haven't seen the whole series because I stopped watching it.

I can respect them for that. But, you have to admit, a lot of the stuff they wrote, budget or no, was just awful and cheesy. But a lot of it has to do with poor acting.

I did love that scene, I also like the scene where Jake an Marco are arguing after a mission gone wrong and Marco says that he's starting to question Jakes judgement and capabilities as leader and Jake replies with "I am too, because I let you come up with a plan."

My favorite scene has to be when Marco is signaling for Cassie(in Skunk morph) to follow him, Jake, and Ax and then somebody offscreen throws an obvious skunk plushie at Marco :XD:! That has me in stitches every time I see it! Can skunks even jump that high/far...or at all?

I think I remember that scene. It was the episode where they first find Ax. I think Visser Three tried to trick him into thinking V3 was an actual Andalite instead of a controller. That was kind of smart, if Ax had no prior knowledge that the abomination was in charge of Earth operations.

Yep that's the one! I always found it awkward how V3 kept calling Ax "Andalite Cousin"
