*cough* There are two Animorphs TV threads right now, so I guess I'm responding to both of them?

The show wasn't amazing, but it definitely had its moments. And I still stick by what I've said in the past: The fault was in the budget/network. Everyone is so quick to blame the writers, but what they don't understand is that TV writers have incredible amounts of restrictions. They can't just write an adaptation and say "Go make this!". No, there are budget, schedule, location, wardrobe, stunt, etc issues. And in the case of Animorphs: the list of available and trained animals.
It would have been less of a restriction if it were an animation, but the writers on this show worked with what they had, and you can see from some of the episodes that they did put some effort and thought into giving us some good stories: The season long Hirac Delest device (which was the disc that Elfangor gave them), the biologically created Kandrona-Free Yeerks, etc.
That said, I'll be the first one to tell you that the 'fights' in all of the episodes completely sucked. But again, this was also a budget issue. Everyone involved had to have known that there was no way they could have pulled this off on a live action kids show, AND with real animals. However, they did make up for this by keeping the drama, and coming up with some really funny moments, especially for Marco and Ax.
So yeah, it was a terrible adaptation. But I look at it the way I do with any old sci-fi now, and enjoy it for what it is.
