Assuming her usual position at the back of the crowd, Reyna reluctantly leaves the Dracon weapons behind, debarking from the ship. As soon as she crosses the threshold of the spacecraft she is bombarded by dusty, dry air. She had not taken any water aboard the ship, and this fact becomes painfully apparent to her as her lips chap and her throat scratches. She falls into a dry coughing spell, turning away to cover up the fit.

When she turns back around Ayrow is gone, leaving only one Pemalite to guide their group. Reyna does her best to ignore her lightheadedness, licking her lips and surveying the alien world around her.

I've never been on another planet before, she thinks, marveling at the primitive Pemalite society.

The Pemalites didn't seem to care.  They must get visitors more often than I thought, Mesa muttered to herself, glancing back at Reyna, who seemed to be having some coughing fit.  She was okay, however, so the Leeran followed Ehruf, staring at the rudimentary supplies.  But Ehruf and Ayrow had seemed totally at ease--apart from the whole Kelbrid-trying-to-eat-them thing--on the spaceship.  Mesa guessed that perhaps when the Kelbrid had "burned their homes" they had been advanced like the myths said.  But now they probably didn't have supplies.

Reli stepped out of the ship not far ahead of Reyna; Reli's stalk-eyes tucked down against her head, trying to avoid the sandblasting... she hated that it left her half-blind.

This doesn't look good for the food situation....

Marty follows... mostly. After a moment of walking, he stopped again, looking all around him. His hand covered over his eyes, shielding the sun and blasting sand. He'd catch up with the others in a second...

Walking into the primitive city, you see just how life is here.

To one side you see a Pemalite calling out in thought-speak, selling large quantities of raw meat in exchange for scrap metal.  On the other, a second Pemalite sells scrap metal in exchange for meat. Still further down is another Pemalite selling purified water in exchange for labour at the purification facility.

As Marty falls behind, a scrawny black, gray and white Pemalite comes up to him, gesturing with her hands, holding what appears to be a damaged food preparation device. The Pemalite says nothing and it quickly becomes clear she is mute.

Ehruf finally stops, not to far from where Marty has been halted, and gestures inside a mud hut before entering. Inside are clay pots and various pieces of scrap technology as well as a seated old Pemalite female with shaggy, red fur. There is a hide rug in the center of the hut and, as the elder Pemalite rises, you notice that her seat is a stuffed hide cushion of sorts. The hides look disturbingly Pemalite, yet radically different in some strange way.

<Ehruf,> the elder say, standing uneasily, <Ayrow just told me you would be here. He tells me you have Kel-Spawn.> She looks at the group, <And apparently an Andalite?>

Reli steps forward one pace and levels her tail, respectful and unthreatening, but a bit wary.

<Greetings; I am Arhareli-Winwall-Ajaht, Andalite.  I intend no harm to you or any here.>

Marty looks at the chunk of machinery, and takes it kindly from her hands. He could somewhat tell what it was, or rather, what it was supposed to be. And he could see generally how it was supposed to work. He could fix it, but there weren't any tools or parts. If only... He handed it back, shaking his head slowly. He joins the others quietly, seeming lost in thought.

Mesa stared around.  These Pemalites were just primitive, they were struggling to survive.  A wave of hatred for the Kelbrid suddenly washed over her.  How could they do this?  She wondered.  Mild revulsion came next as she saw the Pemalite hides.  Or were they?  They were...different, somehow.  Odd.

Then the questions came bubbling up, and she practically had to clamp her mind shut to keep them from escaping.  How did the Pemalites get here?  Did the Kelbrid do this?  Why do they keep thinking Kage is an Andalite?  Why do they think Andalites are so vicious?  And...what's my part in this?

But she said nothing.  None of the other Pemalites acknowledged her greeting, so...

"You have been misinformed. This," Marty said gesturing to Reli. "is an Andalite. Despite their tactical advantage" he gestured to her tail blade raised over her back. "they are cordial and trustworthy allies. Generally speaking." He couldn't help but add. "We are indebted to Ayrow and Ehruf both, who helped us to escape the Kelbrid ship's prison. Unfortunately, two of our friends were afflicted during our escape... they are currently in a state of biostasis aboard the stolen fighter((?))."

((Correct about Jim & Kage. I'd post again, but it would be really weak filler. >_<))

The elder looks towerd Reli following her introduction and acknowledges Marty's explanation. <And how long have your friends been afflicted?>

((Note: I will be posting for Baron's characters from time to time, and when I do so, it will be in his green font.))

"Our friends were... 'afflicted'... just over a half hour ago. They were put in stasis almost as soon as we had boarded the ship."

<That was wise.> said the elder. <Perhaps they can be allowed to live... > she says.

Marty stood quietly, expecting her to continue. When she didn't, he did. "We've heard mention of a possibly cure. Is there - "

The elderly lady laughed quietly, though that was only due to her age holding her back. Ehruf shifted on his feet. He'd been the one to mention the cure, after all. The elder shook her head slowly.

<There is a cure. But it is costly. We do not have the means - or the concern - to expend our resources on neh'tsevern.>

Mesa thought she might explode.  Were all Pemalites so roundabout?  What was this cure?  With a little gentle probing, all she found were thoughts of costs and expenses, along with concern over Jim and Kage.  I'm getting tired of asking questions, she thought sullenly.  Is there anything we can do to help?  She eventually satisfied herself with saying.  A Leeran asking questions that they could psychically glean would look...odd.

Our hostess shrugs slightly, as if considering a new option. <Perhaps. Though your own deaths will not be of much benefit to your fallen allies....>

Ehruf took a half-step forward, and appeared to be about to speak. He didn't though. They managed to not die aboard the Kelbrid ship.

Though her sleep-deprived mind was spinning out of focus, Mesa probed tentatively into the elder's mind.  Images of sandstorms and a huge creature crashed over her.  She tried to get some more information, but her lack of focus sent her thoughts sliding onto Ehruf's.  We're rather...resilient.  We might be able to handle it.
