Am I the only one who doesn't like the new cover? Hmph.

Ditto, it's a real eye sore. I do wonder though, will the pages still morph?

Same reaction here, but I'm holding final judgment on the thing until I actually see it in my hand. The release is so far away, so the layout could completely change by then. Also, we have no idea how the lenticular "morphing" part of this book looks. In many cases, the actual still image of it never looks good vs the animated one.

That said, there IS supposed to be an animated GIF of this cover in the PDF because it clearly says so next to the cover. Did anyone happen to find it? I can't locate it anywhere!

still, have grant/applegate confirmed this anywhere else? i can't find any other sites with this information, so i still feel iffy.

the new cover(s) aren't amazing, but i think they could be decent if they pulled off the lenticular morphing aspect.
also, the next font doesn't do it for me. i hope it gets changed -.-

I got a tweet about this and thought I'd come by to see what was going on.

Firstly: OMGOMGOMG the release is ACTUALLY happening!!!
Secondly: the cover is kinda meh, but I will reserve judgment as a matter of infinite hope.

I can't wait till next summer (for so many reasons) but this is definitely one of them! I hope it goes well.

I do like that they're releasing the first six rather than just the first two - I think #3 and #5 are by far the strongest of the first narration round. I just wish they went through the whole first ten, or at least to #8 so Ax gets a shot.

Ah well, at least I'll be able to show my support by buying four hundred copies of #5!

I'm going to wait to really comment on the covers until I get to see them...

...that said, I'm SO psyched they're re-releasing the first 6!  The Capture, man, the first real gut punch of shades of gray...

Cover is crap. I can't believe someone decided that would be more appealing, (to any generation) than the original.  The green scales I actually like, but everything else, no. the square in the center is tacky looking. I would almost rather there be no characters/animals on the cover if that's the route their going with. a more minimalist approach would have been more interesting.  at the very least they could have added some damage to edges of the square, kinda like how I did on this mock up cover I did years ago.



And is the Scholastic logo always dead center these days? it looks ugly as well.

The new lenticular covers, to me, seem to be catering toward a younger audience, or at least one that's attracted more by shiny things than by content >.<

You did that? I remember seeing that a while ago and thinking it looked amazing. Anyways, not a fan of the new cover myself, but my opinion might change once I have the physical copy in my hand and can look at it. As I've learned in my GD classes, everything looks different digitally vs. printed.

It just seems lazy. Great, a square sized photo of someone morphing above the title. Real inventive.

I hope they still morph! It was a bit tacky and there were only about four different stages of the morph, but I still loved it as a kid

Umm, that was the TV show's logo. This was the original logo.


But I agree, either one of those are better than the latest revision.
