MM2 was really a Tobias book
« on: June 27, 2008, 01:24:30 AM »
MM2 In the Time of Dinosaurs in my opinion was really more about Tobias than anything. He is the expert on everything Dino in that book. Also there are so many moments where you feel bad for him. He busts his wing for basically the entire book, chooses to destroy an alien race, and we see he love for Dinosaurs is a psychological cry for help. I always felt bad for him when he said he played Dinosaur. Furthermore, seeing as he is a bird why wasn't the whole Dinosaurs evolved to Birds thing addressed. The ending was the best where he kicks scientist butt.

Yeah Megamorphs 2  is one of my favourites, and I liked that Tobias had a chance to shine at something new (or old I guess!)

M2 also got me interested in Dinosaurs...

I agree, MM2 was awesome.  And I also loved that little paragraph at the end from Tobias.

I agree. I wouldn't have minded more Tobias throughout the series.

I have a friend who knows as much about dinosaurs as Tobias does. lol. Actually, her knowledge of dinosaurs is what made me get her into Animorphs, 'cause I was thinking "MAN, she's going to love MM#2!".

I get the same feeling, that Tobias was kind of the star of that book.

Funny, I actually didn't think of this as a Tobias book, but as a book for all the Animorphs, which is how a Megamorphs should be. Yeah, Tobias got that paragraph at the end, but it was done as a last minute thing to cover for a KASU. Maybe I have to read it again, but I just don't see it *shrugs*

It said in the anibase that was a K.A.S.U. I'm guessing the reason she chose Tobias to say it was because out of the animorphs, he was the dino expert and it would only make sense for him to check the information.

I think MM3 was an Ax book in some ways.  It's the first time when we see Ax's thoughts about human warfare, which contribute a lot to his conflicted views on human nature later in the series.  However, Ax isn't really the star of the book; that's simply the most relevant part of it.  Megamorphs 2, though, definitely felt like Tobias' book to me.  I was always shocked by how dumb the rest of the crew was in it--seriously, who doesn't know the dinosaurs were all wiped out, possibly by a meteor?

Why couldn't Tobias morph away his wing injury the way he normally would be able to?

I'll be honest, I found Megamorphs 2 to be like the Michael Bay movie of the Animorphs series.

Both of the first 2 Megamorphs books are like this in terms of their big blockbuster-ish plots, but at least the first Megamorphs was fun and had some memorable lines.  This one just seemed like a cynical attempt to cash in on the popularity of Dinosaurs, and even that could have been fun if they'd morphed more Dinosaurs.

The whole "the Animorphs ended up causing the extinction event" was also really over the top and added unnecessary weight to the whole silly story.

Sorry to express what is probably an unpopular opinion, but this wasn't one of my favorite books.  Its not #42 or #36 bad, but its pretty weak IMO.

/2 cents

The Mecoras are the ones who introduced broccoli to Earth.  But since their settlement was ground zero, how did any of the broccoli survive?
