I was checking how many doubles of books I had. I know I had a few, but I must have given them to my sister. I was going to offer to mail them to whoever wanted them.

I've got: A double of 26, part 1 of Megamorphs 2 and a french copy of book 4.

Any chance I could get dibs on 26? I'm missing that one and it's one of my favorites.

Scholastic sound like douches. I mean, I'm sure there have been loads of people become fans of Animorphs via the books. Shouldn't only books 1 and 2 be taken down? I doubt they'll be reprinting the whole series

Unless they're really popular, they won't.

I don't see why they wouldn't reprint the whole series, especially if all they change is the covers.

Hey, just shouting at the wind here, but is there any reason we can't create an e-mailing list privately among ourselves solely for the purpose of sharing e-books?

I have a few friends who are in a sort of club that makes discographies ripped (carefully) straight from vinyl and uploads them into e-mails sent to everybody else in the club; they're like a teeny tiny micro-limewire of just five or six music geeks.

Considering so many members of RAF have saved the e-books in backup or other forms, is there any real reason not to make such a list.

I propose this: if one wanted to be placed on such a list, one might simply put an alternative e-mail address in one's signature, perhaps in a visible font colour.

It's... an e-book Underground Railroad! :D

*sigh* I need more sleep, or else it's too obvious a notion.

The universe is, instant by instant, re-created anew. There is, in truth, no Past, only a memory of the Past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. The only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if I could buy Animorphs in electronic format for my eReader.

Taking away the eBooks here and giving people no alternative is kinda stupid. Like musicians that make their best songs 'album only.' Because yes, people will totally pay $12 when they want one of your songs.

Halalalala =_=' I think nobody even read my previous message... And maybe nobody will read this one either. Well, let's try again:

They won't catch you because you download an Ebook on a website! You won't pay a fortune just for that! Trust me, if you stay away from Emule and Torrent, you don't risk anything, particularly for one book.
[...]

Then, for people who want to buy the old release (you can find not expensive ones if you check all the websites regularly):
Ebay US (just saw 33 books sold for $10!)
Ebay UK
Abebooks US
Abebooks UK
Amazon US ($0,01/book, really expensive  ::))
Amazon UK
Amazon Japanese
So I'm sure you can find them pretty cheap!

For the audiobooks, I'd say: Be careful! Somebody must keep all the release of the audiobooks, so if there is any problem you can keep them.

And for the Ebooks, [...]
The releases won't appear in all the countries, all the books probably won't be re-released, and if there are changes maybe people will want to keep the old version. Plus, I personally own all the books, but not all of them in English, and I don't see why I'd have to delete them from my computer and buy them in English too.

[...]

Edit: I edited my post here too... but you know what I mean.

Yeah, as I said earlier in the thread, Dameg, I have the books as well and am willing to either e-mail them or provide a direct download link to anyone who asks for it.

When the new books are ACTUALLY released I MAY stop this practice. But right now there's very little other easy way of getting to the books, and the authors themselves have stated having no problem with the practice, iirc.

I haven't read everything since you all put out six pages in less then a day but
There would be a reprint if it weren't for places like us.  ::)

a-***ing-men
I get it, I do, yay capitalism ::), but for years it's the fans that have supported this series in more then just finances, and now that it's taking a gamble on thriving on our support, they...do this. Lame. freaking lame >:(
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

I'm glad I nabbed them all a while back. ;)

I mean um, I totally don't have them, at all. Yeah. *coughs* ...In my defense, I do have most of the books in actual release form too. :P

Still, Scholastic has every right to do this, they could have asked for them to be taken down even WITHOUT a re-print coming, so I'm just glad they waited till a re-print was indeed in the works.

I wonder if this is anything like manga streaming. You can get free manga online, and I heard companies are criacking down on it and fans are commenting on it. However, the streamers really aren't supposed to do it and the companies have every right to enforce the law.

I wonder if having these ebooks is actually illegal, and if it is we really don't have any right to complain.

I'm with [edit], nobody here should just forget about the e-books.

[......................................................Edit.....................................................................................]

Dameg, just as a side note, i am pretty interested in this Direct Download you had mentioned earlier. I honestly hadn't really heard of it, and am sort of surprised by it.

not that i don't believe what i said, or still want it, but for the good of others (and to be in accordance with the blog.)

I can only imagine that it is a very similar situation. I think sometimes it falls into a legal 'gray area' though, and that's where I think these e-books here fell into. To use an example, suppose there were e-books for like...Twilight or Harry Potter (which I'm sure there are somewhere). Those would be much more prosecuted by Scholastic right now, because those are hot properties that have legal ways of getting the books very abundant right now, you can buy them or check them out from just about any library. Animorphs however, is an older property that until recently they'd all but forgotten. You can't find them new in any bookstore I'd wager, and it's even gotten really rare to see more than a few of them in a library (my local one only has three the last time I checked). So they may have known about the e-books here the entire time and just kind of looked the other way, since it wasn't all that big a deal at the time. If they'd wanted to though, they could have demanded their removal at any time, I assume.

For manga, it's a question of rights bought by this or this country.
For example, when the US buy the rights for a manga to translate it and sell it, they usually have to buy the rights for each volume. So, for example, if they bought the rights for Naruto #1 to 20 (because there were only 20 volumes when they began to translate), they still don't own the rights for #21 etc. and it is accepted that fans provide on Internet the volumes #21 etc. translated. But the fans have to take down their scanlations as soon as the volumes are released in their country. That's why so many manga are downloadable on Internet: there are many many manga who were never (and probably won't ever be) translated.
For the Ebooks scanned from actual books, it isn't the same, 'coz the editor already has the rights on them. And it keeps these rights for decades.  Here, what would be accepted are the translations of books who weren't translated (but you have to be careful if they're translated after that).

[...]

In fact, I'm pissed off they were rude to Richard... We were thinking about turning the Ebooks into extracts to make people want to read more, or this kind of stuff. But how they did it... it awoken the evil-Dameg!

[...]
