Just a thought: Admitting to having copies of the e-books (which scholastic is obviously unhappy about), and offering to send them to others after they made it VERY clear that they do not want them distributed is probably not the best idea. I'd recommend to any of you who have made these posts that you edit them so you don't find yourself in any sort of trouble with Scholastic.

Exactly. Technically, any scanlator doesn't have the right to upload any manga that we don't have here yet/will never get, but at the same time, most don't mind as bad compared to someone like scanlating something we've had for a long time now.

That's why some hosting sites for that have gotten in trouble and shut down, because they keep entire series online for all time. Well, that and the most recent and large incident when OneManga shut down, they were also trying to sell the domain and make money off of stuff they didn't own at all, which is an entire other set of wrongs. :P

It's unfortunate if they were rude to Richard though, I didn't read the first so many pages of this. They could have at least been tactful about it. :(

I don't know what they said exactly, or if Richard posted their exact words, but there isn't any reason to be callous. There should actually be some appreciation on their side to see a thriving forum for a series that's been dead over ten years. The series ended some time in 2001, right? It's just bad PR.

I agree. Fortunately I never had/used eBooks, just physical copies.

Ghost, Id on't think that would help anything. That may prevent 200 or so books from being sold, MAX. Scholastic has book orders that go out to hundreds of thousands of schools throughout the US, and those book sales account for a large portion of the books sold, I'm sure.

While it seems unfair, scholastic has the right to ask for those books to be taken down by any means they deem appropriate. It has been discussed MANY times on RAF that there was the potential that the books would be taken down, and that having them here might even be illegal. I'd just be grateful that they didn't immediately pursue legal recourse against Richard/RAF.

The chances of them making a continuation of the series is dependant on rerelease sales. And aside from the fact that I have the opportunity to just buy the whole collection and not mess them up through overuse, then I'm disagreeing with that idea. I say buy them. Swallow your pride and buy the books anyway for the good of the series.

you guys are kind of being babies about this. It's not your right to have these books, but if you want to share them, be a real Generation Y-er and do it discreetly.
I go off topic on purpose.

I'm with Chad and Jess. No offense Luke, but that's exactly the sort of knee-jerk reaction that'll make sure we never get anything else new for this franchise ever again. Sometimes you just have to buy a lesser product (in other cases, not this one), or swallow your pride and take some crap, to get somewhere. If we want Animorphs to have any chance at all to get big again, we have to support this re-release despite what bad PR they're using as of now.

Back on-topic, has anybody managed to get Applegate's opinion or Grant's opinion on this? I would love to see whether they back Scholastic or RAF.

I'm guessing that they are quite aware, considering MG follows Rich on Twitter, along with Jake. Back in the day when we got them to come answer questions, they said they can't give us permission to do the books, but at the same time they weren't going to tell on us either (or something to that effect).

But another point I want to make, is that these new re-releases won't be the same as the eBook versions we had (content wise). Wasn't it said that there were going to be a re-release with new covers and updates?, as in updates to the content. Remember, these books were originally written when other things were popular. ex:
References in books to Walkmans will be changed to iPods or something, because think about it, how many grade 2 kids out there REALLY know what a Walkman is??

So, that being said, will the ebooks that we have now, be considered NOT the same as what they're republishing? I know that if I wanna go read an Animorphs book (and I didn't have the physical copies), I would want to read it like I remember, the way I read it back in the day, which this reprint cannot provide. But again, the books are property of Scholastic and they do own the copyright, and nothing will change that... :(

But a question that I would like to ask KA/MG (going off topic a bit here) is if the new print will be set back then, or will it be set in 2011 for example? Cause I ain't readin no books where Jake is a kid TODAY. lol

Anywho... I made a topic a LONG time ago about my local thrift stores having a bunch of the first twenty-something books, that I would be willing to send your way if you want. If you want one, I can look, but remember: this is from a thrift store. a $2.50 CAN (plus s&h) book in most likely rough shape, may not be worth your money.

I don't think they will read all our comments here lol Even for RAFians who see the thread now, it's kind of boring to have soooo many pages to read after only 1 day.

yeah, i'm not to worried about it.

They've sent their message, and i doubt they really care what any of us do on an individual level. I mean, for all they know/care we're just irate fans that'll cool down after a few days and forget about this.

may as well fight it while we're still warm!

I disagree. If they've only contact RAF at this point in time, then it's likely they will keep an eye on the situation. If they're going to make a point of people not distributing e-book material without permission, this would be the place to do it. If you want to be in contact about the e-books, I'd recommend following Estelore's suggestion.

But, it's each individual's choice. Just don't be surprised if any sort of consequence comes about from these posts.
