Hi guys,

For those who don't know me well I'll start this off by explaining that  my family has been struggling with my mother's illness (which is some sort of unknown neurological disorder) for the past eight years. This has left her mostly blind, unable to process spoken language, unable to stand or walk, with some strange brain damage, and on and off of life support for the past several years. It's been hard, and the prognosis isn't good, however, life is good at giving you a good slap in the face every few weeks, of course, so on top of the day to day living with these issues...

I received a phone call yesterday that my dad was in the hospital. They found that he has a bone disease, tumors on his liver, and diverticulitis. I was unable to speak to the doctor when I got there, but the prognosis did not sound particularly good. Needless to say, I'm going to be spending a good part of my time at the hospital from here on out with my father. We're supposed to meet with the surgeon again today to discuss treatments and prognosis.

This is hard to deal with, and I'm having to play adult and I don't like it. Yesterday we talked about his living will, and what options he's considering (or as I found out not considering, for treatment.) I'm only 23, and my parents are only in their 50's, and we have NO family in this part of the country, so this is really rough.

I'll post an updates if you guys would like, when I have time. I'm also sending e-mail updates to people here, so if you'd like me to include you in that please pm me your e-mail address.

Positive thoughts are appreciated, feel free to call if you'd like (If you don't have my number, Broken or Alic can give it to you.) Sorry this turned so venty.

-Jess

My mom's real sick too, with kemo en all that, so I Kind Of get where you're coming from. :-\

Having sick family sucks, and i wish you and your parents all the luck in the world. :(

Wow, I had no idea. So sorry to hear.

It's never easy to continue with daily life when your parents' lives hang in the balance. It's inspiring to see how well you're doing in spite of these trials. I know my sister would be a wreck if my 'rents were in the hospital. This is a testament to your true strength.

Give your parents my best, and keep your head up.

Ah. Not sure when I last updated this, forgot I had even posted it.

His stomach surgery went well, he went through it and came out fine. They did find that he has colon cancer, and cancer of the liver, and they're both un-treatable. They think that if he does a heavy chemo regimen he could have up to 4 years, but I doubt it will be that long as he's unwilling to give up the habits that have landed him there in the first place. *shrug* I'm kind of in that "acceptance" place, right now.

So, he's in chemo, and ok for now. We'll see what the next few months bring.

Thanks for the condolences and positive thoughts.

Thanks. I'm really ok guys. I tend to be a....IDK. Not so much an avoider of big things like this, but a focus on now, and today kind of person. So, I'm really ok, and what happens will happen, there's nothing to do about it now. :)

If anything changes drastically, I'll let you all know, but otherwise, I'm ok with never talking about it again with anyone? :P

Hi Guys...just a bit of an update, bc I know I've been pretty distant and not around much lately. After two years of battling cancer, my dad passed away yesterday. I'm really pretty ok, got to see him two weeks ago. It's sad, but he's not suffering anymore.
