Ah. Spending some time at the hospital.
« on: July 12, 2009, 08:46:14 AM »
Hi guys,

For those who don't know me well I'll start this off by explaining that  my family has been struggling with my mother's illness (which is some sort of unknown neurological disorder) for the past eight years. This has left her mostly blind, unable to process spoken language, unable to stand or walk, with some strange brain damage, and on and off of life support for the past several years. It's been hard, and the prognosis isn't good, however, life is good at giving you a good slap in the face every few weeks, of course, so on top of the day to day living with these issues...

I received a phone call yesterday that my dad was in the hospital. They found that he has a bone disease, tumors on his liver, and diverticulitis. I was unable to speak to the doctor when I got there, but the prognosis did not sound particularly good. Needless to say, I'm going to be spending a good part of my time at the hospital from here on out with my father. We're supposed to meet with the surgeon again today to discuss treatments and prognosis.

This is hard to deal with, and I'm having to play adult and I don't like it. Yesterday we talked about his living will, and what options he's considering (or as I found out not considering, for treatment.) I'm only 23, and my parents are only in their 50's, and we have NO family in this part of the country, so this is really rough.

I'll post an updates if you guys would like, when I have time. I'm also sending e-mail updates to people here, so if you'd like me to include you in that please pm me your e-mail address.

Positive thoughts are appreciated, feel free to call if you'd like (If you don't have my number, Broken or Alic can give it to you.) Sorry this turned so venty.

-Jess

Sorry I haven't posted in here. Been talking to Jess on the phone.

I'm sorry, Jess, I know it doesn't mean much to you, but I will be praying for you and yours. Much love. And yes, if anyone needs her number, I have it.

And updates are very much appreciated!
I know there isn't much I could do all the way from Virginia, but if there ANYTHING I can do, please let me know, and I'll try my best! We all love you. Please be safe and warm and well there.

I can't say I know what you're going through, but I can say that I know what it's like to wait in hospitals and not know the outcome, it's a horrible thing to have to do. And if I can help in any way, I'm here for you. Always.

*Hugs*

:( you're so nice, so I assume your family would all be nice people as well..it's not fair that you've had so much bad luck.

I don't know what to say because I can't imagine how you'd be feeling right now...I hope things start looking up for you and your family.

I mean the sort of person who doesn’t feel too upset about the prospect of a weekend spent seeing no one, and reading good books on the couch. It wasn’t like I was a people hater or anything. I enjoyed activities and the company of friends. But they were a side dish. I always thought I would also be happy without them."

*a widdle hug for Jess*
May things much improve for you, dear.
The universe is, instant by instant, re-created anew. There is, in truth, no Past, only a memory of the Past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. The only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.

Thanks for the well wishing. The gist is he has colon problems and will need to have surgery to correct them. He also have lesions on his liver that they believe are carcinoma. He'll have to go through chemotherapy to treat it, but they can't start until he's free of infection and the colon has begun to heal. So that will be 4-6 weeks. If he gets to the point of being able to have the chemo, there's a 60-70% success rate.

Surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.
