<I do not know Temrash that well, as I said...but I believe that was most-likely a threat meant to scare you.  Your actions are not what one would call...stable.  In any event I will need confirmation from Reven that you have been accepted into the alliance, at least on a probationary standing.  You'll forgive me, but I'm sure you remember what I just mentioned regarding trust...  I, of course, will also require periodic status updates on yourself and Efaen from both you and Reven.  Efaen is still a member of the Andalite military, her alliance will remain with us, which will give me the right to remove Efaen from the rebellion if I find it to be necessary.>

Ossanlin glances out into the hallway and then back at Terenia.  <Of course this is mere supposition.  Without confirmation of your acceptance into the Rebellion, none of the rest matters.>

<Go talk to Reven then,> Terenia says, waving her hand dismissively. <I can wait. It's not like I have much of an option.> She raps on the force field as though it is a door, emphasizing her point.

<As far as trust is concerned...> Terenia hesitates. <I do not trust you Ossanlin. You saved me from becoming a nothlit, but you also threw my sister in front of me knowing that it would force my hand. I think I understand you, though. That you are trying to do the right thing. I can respect that.> She sighs, taking a half-step back from the force field and averting her gaze. <I am not evil, Ossanlin. And perhaps I am not as insane as others would believe. I know who I am, and I know what I am doing. I understand how others perceive me. But I have spent years trying desperately to be the good guy. It does not work. Every time I place trust in someone, every time I take the route of supposed "honor", it blows up in my face and I lose everything.>

She lets out a sigh, looking down at the comm link as though it is diseased. Perhaps afraid that Corliss has forgotten her. Perhaps expecting as much.

<Some people just aren't meant to be heroes.>

Keshin frowns at Corliss' odd behavior. Even if he'd been having business far away from the planet for some time, he couldn't have not heard the news. It had spread all over the Empire, the knowledge of Earth's conquest. His reaction also seemed peculiar. ...worried, even. Panicked.

<...maybe he's one of them Yeerks who liked humans...>

<Hah! Don't get your hopes up. I can't be sure yet. And even if he is, he can't do anything to help you or any of your kind now.>

Keshin states, "Been lost out in Zero-space a long time, have you? It was a bit of a combination of the two. Visser One's slower tactics eventually led to the infestation of large numbers of human beings. We became..." Keshin chuckles at the irony of it all. "...a sort of movement on Earth. With important members of their society and parts of their population under our control, it became far easier to invade the planet. Once they'd finally figured it out, it was far too late to prepare for our forces. Although..."

Keshin glances off irritably. "...they're more adept than they look. We have the main areas, but there are pockets of resistance even still."

Mar nods at Salem's statement about his device and its purpose. "Of course you can't, my dear boy. Although I am projecting into a mortal body, my larger self is very complex by your standards. Any Highest of worth would be impossible to judge accurately. Although...I'm curious to see what the device has managed to understand about me. As for Precious..."

Mar smirks. "...well I call her that, but I cannot say she reciprocates this time. It's true that dealing with me carries risks. But I am not a cheater. I will take only what I ask for and give only what you requested. You mortals just have a way of screwing it up."

Unit Theta-4577 of Adjunct Pi-675810. Unit Theta-4577 of Adjunct Pi-675810. Unit Theta-4577 of Adjunct Pi-675810...

Unit meant one. But we were not one. We were alvie. I was not a single digit. We were Alvie...

We walked out the doors. We used our many forms of vision –– thermal, x-ray, remotuscopic, tachyon, electric impulse, etc. –– to search for the Andalite and the Human Female.

We found the female standing between the bar and a ship. We began to walk towards her.

<Why do you resist assimilation? We only wish to bring order to chaos. Perfection to defect. To raise the quality of the galaxy to the benefit of other races. Why do you resist?>, I asked.

She looked at the droid and frowned. "I've been through hell the past.... Days? Weeks? Anyway, I've had my soul taken from me then I took it back. We are supposed to be flawed. What's the point in being perfect? To be like everyone else? She asked. She took a couple fingers and traced the scars on her face. "I resist because to me, the flawed life I live is perfect."

Poetry, I thought, my Great Great Grandmother was a poet...

<Almost poetic. Unfortunately, your reasoning is flawed and illogical. Where there is no perfection, perfection is not. It is not possible to be perfect while imperfect. Much less because you are perfect. The 'point' in being perfect is to never make a mistake. Once the entire galaxy is assimilated, there will be no chaos. No war, no deceit. All under one ruler. Never questioning. Never worrying. No emotions, the illogical persuasions of lesser races. If you could only feel the way the collective calms me...>

Bzzrrtzz. Ccchhhttttzz!

My super-comuter shorted out.

Me. Self-reference. Frequent use recently. Does not compute., came it's whiny voice in my head.
My. Self-Possessive. Frequent use recently. Does not compute., it said again. Pain in my shoulders! Pain in my hips and the base of my tail! I tried to ward it off!
I. Self-reference. Frequent use recently. Does not compute., searing pain! My shoulders sagged from effort...

I reached out to the Human...We collapsed to the ground...

She mentally debated whether or not to break her promise and crack him in the head when he reached out for her. She went on the defensive and lifted her staff to hit him when he just....fell. She froze and blinked at him a moment. "Okay that probably isn't good. Great Claxter is gunna thing I wacked him." She slowly knelt beside him and tried to check him over. It was hard since she wasn't used to mechanical bodies.

Ossanlin sighs internally.  <I did not know it would force your hand...I had hoped you'd spare her, and perhaps cut loose some of your demons in the process.  The choice was yours to make.>  Ossanlin shakes his head.  <I'm not here to lecture you and I can't pretend to understand you.  I suppose I'll have to talk to Corliss or Myitt first, but you should tell me Terenia, did you speak to Reven before or after Tamora?  It might make a difference in his opinion of you.>

Terenia's main eyes drop, the answer inherent in her body language. Her first instinct is to lie, to tell Ossanlin that she spoke with Reven after Tamora had been dead and buried, but somehow she has a feeling that the lie would not take.

<Before,> she admits grudgingly. <But I don't see how much of a difference it will make. He knows that I...that my brother met a similar fate. He has the contents of the memory dump Myitt did when I first arrived. Or if he doesn't, he soon will.>

Claxter downloaded all the scans he made on a disk that he could show Prince Ossanlin. Perhaps that should help, especially since Theta's methods were more technological than Fredrick's mystical methods. He parked his ship and locked it down, then went back towards the bar where he saw Silver and an unconscious Theta.

<You whacked him, I suppose?> He asked. theta may have deserved it, so claxter didn't take a scolding tone with Silver.

"I really must have been out here too long," says Corliss flatly.  "Well.  Thank you for the update, Visser.  And I apologize for the confusion."  He gestures to Mike's head.  "Must've gotten knocked harder than I'd thought."

He starts to walk away from the bizarre Imperial leader version of Keshin, hoping he can find a place to call Terenia without the aberration listening in.

"I thought about it......then he just collapsed!" she said looking back down to the droid thing. She started to shake him. "Hello? You all right?" she asked.

Claxter stepped closer to theta and bent down towards him to check for his pulse. <He seems to physically be fine, but his mind may be malfunctioning. It seems he's wandered too far from the source of the assimilation, and has been cut off. That's something I got from my scans. if he stays here he might gain his individuality back. then again he might also die. I'm unsure right now.>

Illim puts a hand on the bar's countertop as he slowly spins towards the door. Who could know if there are any willing hosts in here? It's impossible for him to tell, of course.

Perhaps he'll be able to think more clearly outside, he reasons. Or maybe on his ship; he can read hacked logs from the Empire there. That may give him a fresh idea or two.

He wanders out the door and into the gravel yard, spotting the Imperial woman who had spooked Myitt outside; she appears to be wrapping up a conversation with a human man. They seem like a strange pair: the man looks even less like an Imperial than Illim does. But, he reminds himself, watching them with curiosity, who says he's even a Controller?

Turning his attention ahead, he starts to walk in the direction of his ship.

After lingering beyond the tree line for quite some time, Iosse wanders to the back of the bar. There aren't any people back here... and there was a door. Maybe he could find a backroom, or even a food storage room. Maybe he could find some sign of Yeerks there...

Surprisingly quick, he dashed for the door. He struggled with the handle only momentarily as he pulled open the door, and then he was inside.
