Edward morphed wolf and ran, arriving at the cave entrance just a minute later. Meanwhile, I relaxed and watched as if this were a dream, as if it were happening to someone else. It did feel like a dream. I was watching the world through someone else's eyes. I could hear his thoughts, but did my best to block them out, as well as resist temptation to take control again.
We entered the dark cave. The first smell the wolf's nose picked up was blood. It was very strong, still fresh, and coming from not very far away. I remembered the battle clearly, now. Ripping off Hork-Bajir limbs, tearing out one throat after another. Listening to their screams of terror and pain. Had I really been so merciless, so cruel and heartless? You were in battle. It was necessary. Then I thought back to the Yeerk pool. Watching those innocent people being dragged from one place to another, completely against their will. It almost made me feel better. At least they weren't being slaughtered.
I decided to push the memories away. The wolf's nose was picking up a scent, which Edward recognized. Ais. She was somewhere in these tunnels. At least I knew now that the voice in my head wasn't my imagination playing tricks on me.
