Voice Changing

Do you think an andalites voice changes as they get older? Cause they don't really have vocal chords that get deeper or whatever it is that happens with humans. But maybe as their mind matures their mental voice projection would get mature...er. What do you think?

I would have to say no (though this intuitively seems wrong...)...there is no physiological reason I can think of for a voice change...  Unless something in their brain (organ/chemicals etc) that controls thought speak changes over time in a similar way to vocal cords.

Maybe it wouldn't physically sound different, but as they aged and became more mature their use of language would certainly improve, causing them to "sound different" in a manner of speaking.

That's what I would think.

However, it seems that different thought speak does sound differently. So maybe there's an organ that handles thought speech just like we have an organ in our throats that makes people sound different.

I say yes, probably hormones during puberty affect that part of the brain that concerns thought-speak.

Of course, to truly understand how that would work, we'd have to know a LOT more than we do now about the psysiology and biology of thought-speak! :P ;)

Good question. I would say yes, just because the Animorphs can distinguish their own thought speech "voices" between one another.

In my imagination I've always thought of Ax's voice as sounding younger than Elfangors but heck if I know.  :)

I also think as they get older, Andalite thoughts gain confidence, thus changing the tone of the thought. Like when you answer a question on a guess versus answering after knowing it.

They can distinguish their own voices because their thoughtspeak voices sound like their spoken voices

wait wait, so are you saying the voice that is projected is just the voice you think?

Then by that account, can you "think" yourself to sound like a girl? I mean, I can imagine my voice changing and sounding different. Would I be able to project that?

I always just figured, from the way it I felt it was described, that thought speak was exactly like normal voices, but without mouths, so accents could be made, or voices changed, like someone doing a voice over for a cartoon. You can also go like the Matrix and sound like the way you think you sound as opposed to how you actually sound. Like how Neo didnt have any plugs in his skull in the actual Matrix because he thought he didn't.

I always wondered that about Andalites also. Would a female Andalite's voice sound naturally different from a male's though there's no vocal cords involved? I've also wondered whether an Andalite could have a good singing voice via thought speech. You know how some people can sing better than others? Well, would that also apply to them? And if so, could you have have Andalites doing opera and Broadway musicals?! 0-0 LOL

I always wondered how people target thought speak. If you want to talk to say Rachel, Tobias, Marco, and Cassie, and Jake so Ax wouldnt hear, would you have to say their name or think of each person before you produced the thoughtspeak? It seems like that could take forever.

I think you just think it and it works. Less bothersome, more direct.

As far as the "sound" of the thought, I'd think that everyone might sound kind of the same. Since we have voices, we can't really control what our natural voice sounds like. It just sounds like it how it sounds, so it gives variety. I would think after a while if there was no natural variations within Andalite thought-speak, that everyone would eventually end up sounding the same!

Since in #30 Marco said Jake made his <voice> sound deeper, I guess it could change. I don't really know.
