Efaen watches Claxter, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I'm well aware of Terenia's past, as well as how it was entangled with my own," she says darkly. "Just because I don't remember it, that doesn't mean I don't hear the stories. But you are missing the point. Terenia ruined my life. Ruined her sister's life. Ruined her own life, perhaps, I do not know. But I destroyed dozens of sentient lives. Not just the lives of those who died, but of those who cared about the victims. Terenia killed one person. I killed scores."

She turns away, the conversation clearly making her angry. "Besides, without Terenia I would not be alive today. I have no quarrel with her."

<You think Terenia didn't ruin lives while Visser Three sent her on errands?> Claxter asked. <You think your past family and friends didn't grieve for your loss? However many you had? How can you say if it weren't for Terenia, you wouldn't be alive? If she hadn't taken you from your home, you think you would have died? That being a slave was better than the life you had before? You really think you did more harm in one instant that Terenia did in years? Honestly?>

He took a breath. <Well my attempts at convincing you to relax don't seem to be helping. I can tell you're feeling isolated and alone, and I want to comfort you. Make you feel like there's at least one person who wants to see you happy. I'm just not completely sure how yet.>

"I don't know anything about that life except for what people tell me," Efaen responds, exasperated. "Maybe Terenia ruined my life, maybe she didn't. Does it matter? I don't remember any of it. I don't remember that person, and I don't want to remember her. I don't want to be her. Terenia was the one who wiped my memories -- her and that husband of hers -- when I was slated for execution. So I have that to thank her for, at least." She shrugs. "Honestly, beyond that I don't know her. I've avoided talking to her. I don't want to have contact with people who might trigger memories of who I was." Her eyebrows raise pointedly.

<You're really not much different than the person you were back then, though. What do you think would really change? You think you would forget what you know now if you regained your memories? You think you would turn on the people you value now? Does not knowing what bad they may have done really make them better friends? If they didn't, what reason would you have for turning against them?>

<Assuming what Terenia supposedly did was true, there's little to thank her for. She's partly responsible for what happened anyway. Not that I'm saying you should get into a fight with her.>

Enorryma had carried Tess into the suite where she and her mate would be staying. She waited for Ossanlin to finish speaking before carrying Tess toward the sleeping station, which would undoubtedly be more comfortable for the human than Norry's back.

<I can let you off here to rest more comfortably. If I get any information about medical care for you, Tess, I will bring it to you or your mate immediately.>

Norry carefully uncoiled the length of her tail away from Tess and held it away so that Tess could use it as a balance support when she dismounted. It hadn't been as bad as she'd expected, carrying the human. The weight was no worse than the time she'd visited a planet with exceptionally high gravity, and she had gotten fewer stares than she had expected to get. She had been relieved that the infirm human hadn't had to walk the whole distance on her own power.

<<Tess, if you need help or just to get someplace else on the ship, you can use the comm-screen to ask for me. As long as I'm not needed more badly elsewhere, I will assist you as well as I can.>>

She turned her stalk eyes toward Ossanlin. <Sir, once we have the humans settled, what is next on the agenda?>

Ossanlin watches as Enorryma helps Tess down.  <We need to attempt a rendezvous with any remaining free Rebels.  Hopefully those with us will be able and willing to supply the proper coordinates.>  He waits to see if Tess is settled comfortably.

Tess carefully lets herself down to the quarters' polished floor, taking a few moments to look around and surreptitiously wipe the few tears that Keslin's gentle goodbye had brought forth. "Thank you both for your kindness," she says quietly, turning to face them while still keeping one hand on Enorryma's back. "It's been a very difficult past few weeks... months... however long it's been since the base--" Her voice catches, and she looks down.

Clearing her throat, she changes the subject. "You said there was a suspension... bed?" she asks the Andalites tentatively. "I think that sounds like where I need to be about now." Tess gives a helpless laugh, glancing up at them. "I hate feeling this weak."

Illim watches Terenia worriedly and puts an arm around her shoulders, tugging her closer. "Don't talk like that, yeah?" he says quietly, his brown eyes fixed on her. "C'mon. You're gonna stay with Myitt and me til you're feeling better. God knows we all need to hold our friends close now. And you're my best one."

Serid gives Ossanlin a formal nod and a quiet <Yes sir> at his orders and then surveys the humans and Yeerks suddenly in his care. <Greetings. I am Command Warrior Serid-Harman-Piluk, Security Squad Leader on board. Please feel free to come to me, any of you, with anything you require, and I will convey the message to the appropriate parties. Shortly, I will be escorting those of you who wish to retire to your quarters,> he tells the group. <Please remain nearby, all of you.>

His stalk eyes swing slowly between Claxter and Illim, interested in both of their actions, though for different reasons. It appears an unstable lot, he observes to himself with a tinge of worry

<Yes; if you just walk toward that area where the floor is a different colour, I will activate the bed for you.>

Norry palmed one of the wall sensors and turned on the suspension field. The light over that area of the floor distorted a bit in the force field, showing where it began and ended.

<You can control it with the pad on the adjacent wall; it has an analogue dial as well as thought-speech sensitivity. You can adjust how firm or soft it feels.>

Ossanlin nods.  <Kindness is in short supply in the Galaxy.>  He glances at Enorryma with his main eyes before returning them to Tess.  He'd not thought his tough-as-hooves TO would be one to show such kindness.  He'd not given her enough credit.  He gestures to an insulated metal container setting on the work-station.  <There is water inside that tank, and bowls for drinking.  We are still in the process of converting the water suppliers within the quarters to eject water at a suitable height for humans, rather than filling the floor bowl.  Once we have more raw materials, we will be able to synthesize human food products, but for now, we'll have to use what we've taken from the facility's storage room.  Myitt and Illim will be in charge of dispensation.>

He nods to both Tess and Keslin before heading back out into the Dome toward the waiting group.  <Thank you all for waiting patiently.  We'll be heading toward the bridge now.  Those of you who wish to stay within the Dome, all that we ask is that you not destroy or defile any of the plant-life.>  He nods to Serid.  <Those of you wishing to retire to the Warriors' quarters, please follow Serid.  And those of you wishing to accompany myself to the bridge, please follow me.>

Ossanlin itches to stop by his own quarters to exchange the Yeerk weapon belt with his sash-strap sword-belt.  He misses the comforting weight of his katana at his sides.  But they can wait.  Other matters are more pressing.  He sets off toward the front of the Dome with confident steps, though he is careful to keep those steps slow enough that the humans can keep up without straining.  The far hologram begins to phase out to reveal the Dome's wall.  The doors open seamlessly in front of Ossanlin and he proceeds into a fair-length corridor.  He passes another large ramp-well that provides access to all decks of the ship before coming to the bridge doors.  He commands them to open and they slide open almost noiselessly to reveal the Bridge.

The floor is carpeted with a dark green rubber-like material to provide even more grip than the patterned floor of the hallways.  The bridge follows the front curvature of the ship, the entire sloped, curving bridge-hull made of the same transparent, poly-carbon material as the dome.  Partially polarized for perfect viewing quality, it shows the stars and a portion of the planet core in front of the ship.   The hull is opaque from the outside, and the entire section of hull that makes up the bridge wall is shielded by its own closed-circuit triply-redundant energy shield that is active at all times.  The room is bright and well-lit, like the rest of the ship, but holo-displays glow in front of each bridge station, and each officer stands inside the arc of a rainbow-shaped touch console, facing the front of the ship.

The Captain's station is seated in the center of the upper deck in front of the two ramps that descend from either side to the middle of the lower deck which is slung down half a level and out in front of the upper deck.  The TO's station is centered out in front on the lower level, the sensors station located to the left of the TO station, and the Helm located to the right of the TO station.  The FO's station is located to the right of the Captain's station on the upper deck, and the Comms station is located to the Captain's left.  The security officer standing on duty at the bridge entrance, the one that Serid would be relieving shortly, calls out <War Prince on deck!> and performs a tail-salute.  The rest of the current bridge crew turn and salute as well.

Ossanlin nods.  <At ease.>  He turns to address the humans, Yeerks, and Andalites that had followed him in from the dome.  <This...is the Bridge.>  He gestures with both hands.

Efaen's lips set into a thin line. "No, I do not think that, if my memories were returned, I would turn on my friends. But I do not know for certain and I do not want those memories back. Why would I want to remember the pain I caused? Or the pain that was inflicted upon me? I am -- was -- happy with who I am now. I was content to serve the rebellion. Now, if you'll excuse me."

She turns, stalking over to Myitt. She completely ignores Terenia, who is leaning into Illim, in the midst of a full-on breakdown, and instead addresses the Yeerk who told her she had a place in the rebellion.

"Myitt," she says, nodding curtly. "I'd like to apologize for anything my role at Corvus may have done to ruin your opinion of me. I assure you, my memories have not come back, nor do I want them to. I don't know what happened to Arnash -- the Electorate took him from me -- but if he were here I would gladly be reinfested." She swallows, glancing around the Dome nervously. "These aren't my people," she says flatly. "And they never will be, dammit. I--" Sighing, she runs a hand through her dark curls, identical in texture to Myitt's own host's hair. "Ossanlin wants to try and help find any survivors. If we do, and some are hostless, consider myself available. I don't know what else I can ****ing do."

She falls silent then, as Ossanlin returns to the Dome. When he asks for those interested to follow him to the bridge she hangs back, opting to remain in the Dome, away from the Andalite Captain's watch.

Keslin plants one final kiss on Tess' forehead before following Ossanlin back to the Dome. "I appreciate your help," he says quietly as they walk. "It may be prudent to place a priority on locating any of our lost medical staff. Tess is going to go into labor soon, and no one here knows how to deliver one child, let alone two. It's dangerous for the babies, and for her." He keeps his voice level as he talks, but the way Chris' eyes tighten and his hands tremble give light to his nerves.

He continues following Ossanlin to the bridge, gesturing for Aya and Lanath to follow. Dom seems content to stay on the bridge, and Keslin leaves him there, trusting that the Croatian man will keep abreast of the situation in his own ways.

"Lanath, Aya," he murmurs under his breath as they walk, "I need your memory now more than ever. Keep close to Ossanlin, befriend some of the other Andalites if you can. You'll report to me periodically once we reinstitute the Council." Chris' sharp blue eyes raise to Ossanlin's back, then lower again. "I am grateful to them, but I do not trust them."

When they reach the bridge, Keslin comes to a halt, eyebrows raising in interest. <<I never thought I would live to see the bridge of an Andalite Dome Ship,>> he comments to Chris, a part of him eager to go and inspect the controls. He remains still, though, wary gaze on Ossanlin.

"Impressive," Keslin comments diplomatically, clasping his hands behind his back. When the other Andalites on the bridge salute Ossanlin he cannot help but smirk a little.

<<Man, can you imagine how our people would've reacted if we made them salute us?>> Chris asks, laughing a little.

<<This is a more structured society,>> Keslin says mildly, lowering his gaze to hide his amusement.

<I'm sure if I was captured by Imperials, and had my memories wiped, they could convince me being a slave was a good life too. It's easy to convince someone of anything if they don't remember anything.> He said as Efaen walked off. He let her go after the comment, and walked over to Serid.

Esarvit returns from contemplation in his personal quarters, where he's been carrying out an ancient prayer. His quarters are still entirely his own--for the time being. Oh, it's not that they need to adhere to all the trappings of rank when they're taking on so many civilians--and others--but all the same, he thinks, Ossanlin had better maintain some symbols of order. Their position is too precarious, otherwise.

Esarvit begins to configure his ARC so that he can tote it around with him and it will begin storing data files of the newcomers. Anything to help him match alien faces with names. This seeming to function, he makes his way out into the common areas, trying to hold the machine unobtrusively.

Enorryma stepped around the cluster of humans standing near the entrance of the bridge, making her way down to her own console and extracting her sidearm's original components from a storage panel at the console. She immediately set to work refitting her Shredder to have its original custom lens array, and she put the Dracon array back into the storage space. She made other adjustments to her utili-kit and mounted her small parabolic mirror back on the edge of the console, where it belonged, and where she could see the captain's main console above and behind her, even if her stalk eyes were busy receiving information from sensors and Helm.

Finally satisfied that all was as it ought to be with her gear, and determining through brief diagnostics that the TO console was in the proper working order as usual, she directed curt nods of acknowledgement to her junior officers on the bridge and then walked back up to where Ossanlin spoke with the rebels.

Ossanlin nods to Keslin.  <<I will defer to the survivors' judgment as to our destination in search of the remaining rebellion members.  You may rest assured that we will do everything within our power to guarantee the health and survival of your ho...>> He stops himself from saying "host's" and revises his statement.  <<...of your offspring.  Every life is important.>>

He nods to Enorryma before a thought-speech voice catches his attention.  It was Verden, temporarily in charge of the sensors station.  <My Prince, our sensor probe has picked up a Z-Space signature dropping out on the other side of the planet!>

Ossanlin jerks and spins around.  <Enorryma, we need to jump now...blind if need-be.>  He dials up the ship-wide comm...  <Prince Lieutenant Esarvit, report to the bridge sensors station immediately.>  He closes the comm and glances over at Verden again.  <What does the probe say?>

<It's a destroyer-class vessel, sir.  It has readings...unlike I've ever seen before.  I can't get a clear picture...but the energy output suggests Shredders sir...>

Ossanlin's face loses expression.  Somehow, his own people had tracked him.  A destroyer-class Andalite vessel of unknown specifications...it screams Sector 7.  They might have a way of tracking energy trajectories...abov e all he cannot allow them to see the Tyrennian.

He steps into his station and glances down at the temporary helmsman, Erkor.  <Warrior Erkor, keep the planet core between us and that ship.  It should still be shrouding our signature...we must prevent them from seeing us.>

He dials up the ship-wide comm using his console once again.  <All personnel, this is War-Prince Ossanlin-Rethin-Sephirel.  Prepare for a Z-space blind-jump, I repeat, prepare for a Z-Space blind-jump.>  He uses his Captain's console to sound the ship claxon, the bridge's alert indicators suddenly glowing bright yellow to indicate immediate hazard, the holographic tactical and information displays jumping up in front of him.

~

Cendir sighs as Model 71 once again drops out of Z-Space.  The necessity of the assignment does nothing to assuage its tedium in her mind.  Tracking a ship in this manner is troubling at best.  Due to the fluid nature of Z-Space, tracking ships through it is strictly impossible.  However, all pilots are trained in the Academy to orient their vessels in the real-space direction of their destination before jumping.  Physically speaking, it's completely unnecessary...but it made tracking ships possible, if....tedious.  It required the tracking ship to drop out of Z-Space at intervals to check for their quarry.  It could be maddening and was certainly frustrating beyond reason, but it could pay very big dividends.

<Sir, we have some anomalous readings near the exposed planet core up ahead.>

Cendir raises her eyebrows and nods.  <Get us closer...if we find whoever absconded from Corvus, Lord-Commander Iksilon will be most pleased.>  She glances around the sleek white, silver, and black lines of Model 71's bridge interior.  Iksilon preferred to call the ship "Shadowscythe," but Model 71 is it's true designation.  Cendir chuckles to herself at his strange little idiosyncrasies.  Her mate was often far more artistic than he would ever admit.  Of course she would call the ship "Shadowscythe" in his presence, he would tolerate no less, but while she's in command, it would always be Model 71.  "Shadowscythe" had been her own call-sign until Iksilon had appropriated it for his little toy of a ship.  She still bristled about having to change her personal call-sign to "Shadowstrike" just to satiate Iksilon's whims...it probably played no small part in her absolute refusal to accept the ship as "Shadowscythe."

She taps at her cheek with a finger, lost in thought as she so often had been lately regarding the Corvus raid.  Iksilon was convinced that it couldn't have been Imperials.  Oh he was a shrewd one, Iksilon.  And powerful, though he hid it well from outsiders.  A clever and devious mind...the Lord-Commander of Sector 7 could possess no less.  Even the title "Lord-Commander" was unknown to outsiders.  Who would expect that unassuming little Sector 7, a mere intelligence analysis branch of the government, actually had strings tied to nearly every person of power amongst the Andalite people?  That even those who were tied so tightly that they could not even act without the express wishes of Sector 7 had no idea that those strings bound them?  She chuckles to herself again.

Of course she harbors no delusions.  A person in Iksilon's position could not afford emotion or conscience.  Their mateship is certainly not typical.  They respect each other...she an exceptionally talented assassin, and he arguably the most powerful Andalite alive.  Love has no part in it, and Cendir has no doubt that Iksilon would have her killed if it suited him.  The key to surviving was both simple and elegant...make sure she remains more useful to him alive than dead.  There was a sort of exciting danger about their relationship...she could kill him...but she would not survive the effort long.  Still...that excitement and the opportunities granted by her position are worth the danger to her.

If Iksilon hadn't had business at Corvus, he would be here too...but it isn't every day that someone manages to locate a highly-secretive Yeerk detention center, infiltrate it, neutralize it, free selective Yeerk and human prisoners, and escape with enough human fodder and Kandrona generators to last several months.  So, the task of tracing the vessel responsible had fallen to her.  Time, of course, was of supreme essence.

<Yes, Sir!>

Enorryma dashed back down the ramp to the TO console and interfaced Helm and sensors to project a map of available jumps. The computer kept a peripheral programme running most of the time to calculate viable emergency jump locations. Right now, the only standard for 'viable' was 'not within the event horizon of any singularity or similar mass.' Norry whispered a prayer to Sky for good judgment, dialed the computer down to a navigational distance out of the other ship's sensor range, and then randomly selected one of the potential sets of coordinates that the computer had churned out. She ran the calculations mentally against what little she already knew of this quadrant of the galaxy, determining that as blind-jumps go, at least they weren't liable to end up in the middle of a star cluster. She entered the coordinates and sent them over to Helm.

<Coordinates obtained. Jumping, Sir, on your queue!>
