Honestly, I'm not sure why anyone would do that...but to be fair one of them is a chemistry/secondary ed major, he wants to teach chemistry in high school/junior high. The other two I'm not so sure about. It probably has to do with being able to blow stuff up in lab.
Then there's the weird one who is in biochemistry. He used to work on bioweapons in the military (deactivating or neutralizing them, not making them), so it's something he discovered he liked doing. I guess that works out for him.
I'm the odd one out in my circle of friends, as far as academics goes (3 chemistry majors, a biochemistry major, an aerospace engineering major, a civil engineer, and me). They like microscopes or schematics while I like literature, but it works out pretty well. We have plenty of stuff to talk about besides school.
