So no wolves in the National Forest, no grizzlies in captivity in CA, and possibly other animal related KASUs. It might have been best to leave their city as Imaginaryville. That would have been a good reason for them to never list exactly where they live.

Now that's not entirely true. The San Francisco zoo has grizzly for as long as I can remember. Admittedly they only have females, but still; captive grizzlies are in CA.
But hey, it's a science fiction series set in the modern world. A few rules are bound to be broken

I believe they say that wolves were only recently re-introduced to the area, so it's not a KASU, it's more likely a KAMU (Katherine Applegate Made it Up!)

Why is it when people read Science FICTION books, they try to scrutinize it like it was in the reference section?

It's kind of wierd. Like video game graphics. People want graphics to look real, but if the graphics look too real people start pointing out minute flaws. Science fiction might be like that.

Yeah it is weird that people find fault in works of fiction. It only annoys me if something doesn't make sense within the boundaries of the story.

I agree, as long as it is consistent, I'm mostly happy.

as a zoologist, things like saying there are wolves in california running wild make me sad to remember they were wiped out in the 20s, and then it upsets me

Are you coming anywhere? Otherwise I have another question.
It's a dubble question actually.

1. Can andalites swim
2. Can hork-bajirs swim (this one is more difficult. According to Ax they can't and according to Jara Hamee they can but the hork-bajir isn't very smart and Ax didn't always listen to his teacher so the answer can be anything at all)

It might be a retcon or something when it comes to Hork-Bajir. Or maybe Ax just meant they don't swim well in the ocean. I don't know.

I think Ax can swim. I think there was a time where the group was in the water, and Ax could stay afloat in his own form between morphs.

I assume that Andalites and Hork-Bajirs can swim, just not well enough to swim in the ocean.

In which book was that?

There were a few books regarding the ocean. Maybe MM2: Time of Dinosaurs? Or The Weakness, when they needed to morph giant squid? Or maybe the Mutation, when they battled the sea Blade?
