Dalik hesitates, but keeps her weapon aimed at Ossanlin. "I have no desire to harm you," she says, glancing at Verdana as she speaks. "I just don't want that tail of yours crashing through my host's neck. You don't seem to have particularly good control over yourself, Andalite."

She falls silent as he and Myitt begin speaking, the unfamiliar names and events washing over her. By the time he finishes she's lowered her weapon slightly, though it is still gripped firmly in one hand.

William skirts around the Andalite, expression thoughtful as he approaches the bar for another drink. For once, he doesn't join the conversation, sensing it is about a world beyond his own. Instead, he looks to Verdana. "Tell me about these Monsters," he murmurs. "I'd like to know more."

Verdana's eyes lit back up a little.

"The other Monsters. Well, our kind is a varied people. There are much more drastic differences in Monster types, as opposed to Human types. One may be a skeleton. Another may be a vegetable. In general, we do not enjoy fighting. Though many of us can, and effectively. Humans tend to be stronger than us, especially those with strong intent to kill. It makes them dangerous, yet there is something that caused Humans to fear us. Humans usually dislike things that look different. Things they aren't familiar with. It can make it difficult for our peoples to get along."

Myitt swallows hard.

"You mean in...in the other timeline, we all...just died, or left you?" She shakes her head. "Jesus, Ossy, no wonder you were upset with me."

Jeffrey watches the group around Ossanlin cautiously, reaching for his knife impulsively when he sees Dalik's drawn weapon but then taking away his hand. This blue deer, whatever he was, was describing some kind of power that no one in his whole universe had. Unfathomable, insane power...Power that filled Jeffrey with greed and longing. If I could turn back time, there is so ****ing much I would do. Why does Blue Deer Guy get it of all people?! What about the rest of the world's broken hearts?

But Jeffrey shivers and flashes back to the image of his dead sister, with those long, gnarled fingernails and that deadened expression. If I got it, would it really make a difference though?

Jeffrey watches Dalik lower the weapon, and eventually says, "Look, you people...whatever your relations were, and are, all of that...You need to calm the hell down! This place is frayed enough as it is, I think. Okay? Let's settle down while we still can and realize that we're all ****-ups."

"Ascend? Look, you're losing me." Merc softens his expression now that he was sure that Ossanlin's convulsions were finished, and his posture returns to normal. "Look, I don't get any of this Andalite or Yeerk stuff or whatever is going on. Seems like that part was skipped over in whatever timeline I come from." He takes his seat next to Jeffrey once more. "If you don't want to explain, it's cool. But a condensed story would be appreciated."

He then takes a long look at Dalik. "Alright. Look, this whole situation is crazy for all of us. I'm not exactly a genius, but even I can see that. But I think the gun might be a bit too dramatic, right?"

Dalik glances at the gun, then back up at Mercer. "It's set to stun," she says. "It won't kill him. It won't even hurt him. At worst it will keep him from accidentally beheading you." She hesitates, then reholsters the weapon. "The Andalites are at war with my people," she tells him. "The abbreviated version is that they showed us a world beyond our pools, but limited our ability to access it. When my cousins took it upon themselves to leave our planet it resulted in an all-out war that's still being fought."

She shrugs her narrow shoulders. "Both sides are responsible for quite a bit of evil, and in general we aren't too fond of one another." Her head tilts as she considers Myitt. "There are, of course, exceptions to every rule."

"Vegetables?" William echoes, eyebrows shooting up. He laughs. "Really? What sort of powers do you have, goat-man?"

"My powers. Hm..."

He place his hands above the table. A circle of white, and a circle of orange appeared, and out of them rose a bone, and a small fir. Neither of them effected the wood underneath.

"Bones, and fire. One coming from my father's side, and the other my mother's. My parents are actually capable of a lot more, but I'm just a mostly untrained child. I can fight, but I'm not a one man army. You see?"

William nods, letting out a low, impressed whistle. "Impressive," he acknowledges, brushing his ponytail back over his shoulder. "So your powers get stronger as you age?" He tilts his head. "What makes humans stronger than you?"

"Human souls are inherrently stronger due to what is called determination. The refusal to die in the face of great danger. If you have an intense desire to kill, a Human can defeat practically any Monster in one attack. There are certain alternate universes where a Child can enter the Underground, and slaughter everyone with a stick."

"Yet they fear our ability to take that power for ourselves, because it would make our own power grow exponentially. A Monster who has taken seven Human souls could become a god. Yet this is not our desire. We only wish to live in peace, and it is the inherent violent nature of Humans that keeps this peace from happening."

Ossanlin shakes his head a bit.  <No...well...yes I suppose.  A few of you stuck with us, but after Keslin died, we lost a lot of the pirate rebellion members.  They blamed me after all...he died following my orders.  When you went missing, my only thought was that you'd lost your life.  The alliance fragmented without the both of you holding things together.>

He drinks deeply from the bowl, closing his eyes for a moment before moving on.  <I was never mad with her...the other Myitt.  She and I were closer.  Brought together by the tragedy and mutual struggle for survival.  Reven had died in the attack.  You...I mean she and Keslin were sort of sitting at the helm of the rebellion.>  He pauses in thought before speaking again.  <But perhaps the other Myitt is indirectly responsible...we shared a closer relationship.  Maybe a part of me supplanted that closeness onto my relationship with this version of you, and thus I felt shunted when you didn't speak with me.>

He glances at Dalik and then Merc.  <Yes, I can...become more than myself.  The Silver Blades are a very unique derivative species of Andalite...touched by the Ellimist.  I'm not pure Silver Blade though, or I would be silver all the time.  As such I do not have some of the more awe-inspiring abilities that Silver Blades have, but I have a greater stamina for using my own abilities than full Silver Blades do.>

He spares a stalk eye for Dalik.  <What she said is true, however she forgot to mention that the majority of Yeerks enslave their hosts against the host's will.  Once a Yeerk is fully infested, the host has no control over their own actions unless the Yeerk allows it.  As such, the host is entrapped in their own mind, unable to act.  A former Andalite Prince called Seerow was the one who gave the Yeerk's space-travel.  And that's when the Empire began traipsing around the galaxy infesting entire planets against their will.  The Andalites have sworn to stop the infestation from spreading, taking responsibility upon themselves for Seerow's Kindness.>

"That...sounds like a headache, so I understand that you guys might have a bit of animosity between yourselves, but..." Jeffrey squirms a bit. "...I mean, do the head-parasite guys actually have the ability to not take control of people? Like...My abilities are..." Jeffrey clears his throat, and allows the music to form around him, the strange humming and reverberating that seems to entrance people. "...I can make people believe whatever I say. Or at least pay a lot of attention to it. And ...in places other than this Bar, I think, if I don't do it...I...die. And if I do do it, I go crazy."

"Did these guys have another option other than to do what they did?" says Jeffrey. He sighs. "Just asking."

"Oh, sure," Dalik says casually. "We have the option of returning to our pools. To a world without sight, without limbs, without sound, and without the ability to travel the stars."

Her smile is thin. "Of course, if we chose to return to the pools the Andalite people would also ensure we never again were permitted to leave. They would disregard the advances we've made and have us return to...to what you humans would consider a caveman culture. It isn't a choice at all."

William nods slowly. "I see," he murmurs. "That's interesting. Where I come from, the humans are infinitely weaker than us. In fact, some humans do consider us gods, though of course that's the product of ridiculous superstition."

"I have heard stories Humans made of fictional Monsters. Strange beings of pure malevolence, that are far stronger than your typical Humans. I think Humans like to pretend Monsters are more dangerous than they are, to make themselves feel better about discriminating against us. They do it to different groups of their own kind as well. It's quite strange."

Verdana overheard some of Dalik's conversation. He couldn't help but sympathize with the idea of not being shunted into a small portion of space, just because of a threat your people pose. Though he was in no position to pick a side.

Merc turns around to face Verdana, having listened in to his conversation with William. He didn't quite grasp the scope of what Ossanlin was saying. "Funny that, 'cause I haven't heard any Monster stories in years." He smiles, although whether this is an expression of amusement or bitterness is unclear. "I guess we don't need to come up with some fake bull**** about you guys. Turns out, humans are the real monsters after all."

"So instead you enslave everyone that so much as has a body and looks at you funny," says Jeffrey, a vaguely thoughtful look on his face. He gives Dalik a somewhat saddened expression, for someone as drunk as he's rapidly getting. Although it is taking an unusually long time. "...that's what a lot of the Espers do, too. If you can control someone else, and to change anything you need to control someone else, you'll do it by force eventually. And I guess with you guys it was either do it or live the rest of your lives with nothing. I understand at least part of that sentiment....becaus e I did it. And with a whole lot less justification than a whole planet and species to worry about the future of."

Jeffrey looks toward Merc with a smirk. "As for the thing about the humans and Monsters...That one's right on the nose! Humans are always the real monsters. We lie to one another, hurt one another, torture one another and when we're caught..." Jeffrey takes another sip of his drink. He doesn't even recall asking for a refill. "...we claim we had a good reason for turning some other man into juicy mincemeat."
