Yeah.... :Sheepish: I meant to post yesterday, and then today, but... yeah. I WILL post in-game tonight!
OKAY! So... here's what me and Shock came up with today. I'll post some definitions/examples, and a couple excerpts from our Skype convo...
Attack (A/)-- Is based on strength, combat skill, and weaponry. Is used for attacking and overpowering obstacles.
Defense(D/)-- Is based on armor and endurance. Is used for blocking or receiving attacks
Speed(S/)-- Is based on speed (duh?), reflexes, and agility. Is used for evading, fleeing, and running.
Awareness(Aw/)-- Is based on sensory input (smell, sight, hearing, telepathy, etc), and attentiveness (how observant you are of your environment, etc). Is used for noticing upcoming events, finding/locating hidden people or objects, realizing certain circumstances, etc.
Luck(L/)-- Is based on fortune. It determines how well you fare in a random event, or how well you perform when chance is involved
Willpower(W/)-- Is based on determination and mental control. It determines morphing times, how well you cope with instincts.
(Scenario 1) Andy (A/12, D/15, S/6 ) attacks Brad (A/7, D/9, S/12). ((For this example, I used a base of five for each stat+ roll))
~~~”You're gonna die, scumbag!!!” Andy pulls out his sword and charges, striking diagonally for Brad's shoulder ~~~
Andy rolls a die and gets a 4, so his attack equals 16. Brad rolls a 5. This would give him either a defense of 14 or a speed of 17. Let's play out both of this situations...
~~~ “You first, slimeball!” Brad taps his arm band, which grows into a giant shield. Unfortunately, ((because of Andy's 2+ in attack over Brad's defense)) Andy's sword knocks him at an unexpected angle, which cuts his arm, but not badly.~~
OR
~~ “EEP!” Brad ducks to avoid the swinging blade ((and thanks to his 5+ in speed over Andy's attack)), and is successful. Andy's sword slices through empty air.~~
THEN... It is still Brad's turn. Maybe he decides to flee. Or perhaps he'd rather retaliate. He rolls again (new action/response = new roll). He gets a 4 ((I'm getting really lame rolls here... )). Let's see....
~~ Oh crud, Brad thinks. I'd better beat feet. He jumps out of range and turns to run, not even worrying to look back. ((Brad's speed of 16 (12 + 4) leaves Andy (6) in the dust.)) ~~
OR
~~ “AAARGH!!! YOU'LL PAY FOR THAT!!!” Brad skillfully throws his shield straight for Andy's chest. ~~
If you want to attack, you must commit BEFORE rolling. You may not roll and then decide if you will or won't follow through. A roll does not tell you your chances, if determines your success rate. If you're defending, you must roll regardless of what you want to do. You may then choose how to respond with your roll (defend or evade, etc.) This determines how well the first persons attack is against yours. The higher the difference, the higher the success rate. Defending players will be allowed to write outcomes for attacks on them WITHIN REASON. (did you dodge, or did they miss?) NO POWERGAMING! NO GODMODDING! NO DUH!! After you respond to an attack, you then decide if you will attack or run. Again, you must decide what action to take before rolling.
[9:22:21 PM] Josh: here's a question:
[9:22:39 PM] Shock: go for it
[9:22:45 PM] Josh: can you roll before you decide to attack, to see if it would be worth it? or can you only roll if you commit to attacking?
[9:23:27 PM] Shock: i don't think so otherwise people would just be rerolling bad dice rolls
[9:24:09 PM] Josh: well, you'd have to go with your first roll either way (not that we can really enforce that... have to use the honor system.)
[9:24:20 PM] Josh: but let's say I want to attack you.
[9:24:30 PM] Josh: could I roll first (I get a four) and realize it would be dumb?
[9:24:49 PM] Josh: or do I roll after I'v already decided to and have to deal with the four?
[9:25:13 PM] Josh: in other words, can you call it off after seeing the roll?
[9:25:16 PM] Shock: you have to deal with it. the other guy then rolls to defend himself via defense or speed
[9:25:27 PM] Josh: okay. I like that
[9:25:33 PM] Josh: makes it more suspenseful
[9:25:38 PM] Shock: should he get an equal or higher number, he blocks
[9:25:50 PM] Shock: or you miss
[9:25:59 PM] Shock: it
[9:26:03 PM] Josh: okay
[9:26:15 PM] Shock: it's a system that favories the defender but oh well

[9:50:46 PM] Shock: what is the speed though?
[9:51:03 PM] Josh: peed(S/)-- Is based on speed (duh?), reflexes, and agility. Is used for evading, fleeing, and running.
[9:51:29 PM] Josh: evading is a *response*. running is an *action*
[9:51:40 PM] Shock: i know that i was getting at if you two are running and say someone was to morph a cheetah.. the base speed would go up
[9:51:44 PM] Shock: or even a bird of prey
[9:52:10 PM] Josh: speed would go up in those situations, yes.
[9:52:14 PM] Josh: [9:50 PM] Shock:
<<< what is the speed though?... I'm not sure I understand...
[9:52:25 PM] Shock: i mean base speed
[9:52:47 PM] Josh: it would be different per species type, and then you roll on top of that.
[9:52:49 PM] Shock: [9:47 PM] Josh:
<<< Oh crud, Brad thinks. I'd better beat feet. He jumps out of range and turns to run, not even worrying to look back. ((Brad's speed of 16 (12 + 4) leaves Andy (6) in the dust.)) ~~
[9:53:02 PM] Josh: except for morphs.
[9:53:03 PM] Shock: how is brad's speed 12 and andy's 6?
[9:53:28 PM] Josh: Andy (A/12, D/15, S/6 ) attacks Brad (A/7, D/9, S/12).
[9:53:35 PM] Shock: oh ok
[9:53:37 PM | Edited 9:53:44 PM] Josh: in that particular event....
[9:53:44 PM] Shock: never mind then
[9:54:41 PM] Josh: Brad is instigating an action. That means AFTER COMMITING TO RUNNING he rolled a 4 (which makes 16). Andy hasn't rolled yet. His speed of six means he gets a good headstart.
[9:54:52 PM] Shock: ok
[9:54:59 PM] Josh: on Andy's next run, he might respond by chasing him, and then he could roll for speed.
[9:55:04 PM] Josh: not good chances there.
[9:55:58 PM] Shock: sounds good

Oh, and:
[9:58:53 PM] Shock: im still waiting on a morpher to fail a willpower test to resist the mating instict...
*facepalm*
Please read the first spoiler. It really is essential if we go this route, which I imagine we will. It might look daunting, but Shock says this is a rather easy system to use. This would mean that all of our characters would need to have stats for Attack/ Defense/ Speed/ and Awareness/. I hesitate to say this, but.... let's all assign our characters their own A/ D/ and S/ stats. Our characters are already established, so these should be simple enough. I trust y'all to keep it reasonable. Luck and Willpower will go unchanged. Just to make it convenient, I'll post Baron's post about Stats and junk
WITH MY MODIFICATIONS here:
Andalites will have a +2 racial bonus to Willpower.
Hork-Bajir will have the racial bonus "Help of the Ellimist" resulting in a +2 Luck modifier.
Leerans will have the racial bonus "I'm in your head", resulting in a +4 Awareness modifier but can be injured easier in their Leeran form. All Leerans lose this bonus while in morph.
Humans have no bonuses.
Luck and Willpower start at a base of 5 and can be no lower. To establish Luck and Willpower, a D10 is rolled and the number rolled is then added to the base number for a maximum of 15. The highest possible Luck/Willpower is 20, with the additional 5 points being added through racial bonuses or in-game situations. (eg. The highest possible starting Luck a Leeran can start with is 19 but will immediately drop to 15 while in morph. The highest starting Willpower for an Andalite is 17, etc, etc).
So the Aw/ L/ W/ modifiers will be:
Hork-Bajir - "Help of the Ellimist" +2 Luck
Andalite - "Escafil Device" +2 Willpower
Leeran - "I'm in your Head" +4 Awareness ((Yes, I changed this. I hope you don't mind, Seal and Baron.))
Human - ...nothing.
Taxxon - -5 Defense!
