Time to post a reply for Van, now. It'll take a while, since, again, this is from my phone. As usual, apparently. Also, I'll see, uh, where we are now. O_o
Van's knowledge of any Ildari is rudimentary, at best, but he has picked up on familiar elements between Ildari and Beryllian before... However, he lacks any understanding of individual words, such as senrin, which should be endlessly amusing for Rathien. In fact, Van's homeworld and culture can't even imagine doing away with their strict social hierarchy, which definitely is what defines the difference between Rathien and Van.
Yet, Van thinks of Rathien as some kind of Beryllian, which is incredibly, incredibly, stupid of him.
Anyways, the idea of status being "genetic" is a unique and strange byproduct of this hierarchy. Van figures he wouldn't be subject to any genetic engineering due to his father's social standing, but some people are specially modified to behave within their status.
On the surface, most can simply blame conditioning and environmental factors, but the dark reality is, the genetic element still exists. Some say, it exists perhaps to reinforce the upper class' prejudices. It's an old idea, of a person being genetically tweaked for a specific status; thus, downward mobility is incredibly shameful.
