KASU
« on: July 25, 2008, 09:54:53 PM »
I know there are a lot of KASU's out there. Lets list and comment on some of the best ones.
Here is the link to the KASU's. http://www.geocities.com/sbsa01/kasu.htm

Some of my favorites include:

51 Jake and Marco have friends since second grade but in 4 they were friends since in diapers.
Explanation Sometimes people still have accidents

26 Why does it matter that they yeerks will meet hte Iskoot in 300 years if they will have been defeated?
Explanation Have they been defeated?

that list isn't very accurate. there are quite a few KASU that can be explained.

Some of those aren't KASU's. Like the Buffy one. There are several reasons that can explain watching Buffy on thursday, maybe he had a VCR, or maybe the thing takes place in the future, or maybe in the aniverse that's when Buffy was on.

There are more, but I don't feel like getting into it.

Yeah, a lot of the KASUs are really not that serious.

A lot of those were just opinions and little nit-picks, but I agree with some of them. I don't know why, but I love it when I catch a mistake in a book. It makes the author seem more... Human, perhaps. I especially enjoy finding them on standardized tests. Don't get me wrong, though. There's nothing wrong with little mistakes. Every writer makes them. Some editors are just better at covering them up.  ;)

I just realized that if you were to use my name, it would be called an SSSU...

If you are not in my avatar, and would like to be, or if you changed your name and avatar and would like me to update it, PM me. I cannot add or change anyone at the moment as I lost the file I use for this, but if people still want in, I'll work on it.

I am RAFmarried to my sweet shnukums, Rachel. ;D

Yeah, some of them are dumb, like the ones for #30:

~Why did Marco skip school to go to the business district, when there are better places to go...
~Marco's morphing suit tears when he morphs into Mr. Grant in Chapter 4. However, Mr. Grant is a morph so Marco should be morphing into a naked Mr. Grant. Marco's morphing clothes would become bare skin, like any other animal.

The first one: ...how is that a mistake?  It's just personal opinion.
The second one: If you were morphing human, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be concentrating on morphing your suit like you would for animals. xD

Still, it's a pretty good and thorough list of KASUs, very useful.

I agree, some aren't really KASU.
But some don't appear in French translation. Jake don't call Cassie "Cass" in French, for example. And sometimes I don't know if Katherine made a mistake or if it's the translator who made it. For example (I didn't read all the KASU, so I don't know if they put it): once, they say they're morphing "chouettes" (owls) but they don't have this animorphs, in fact they're morphing "mouettes" (seegulls). In French, the 2 words are pretty close, so may be the translator made the mistake...

I admit that I'm impressed at the observational skills of the person who wrote that list, but I'm also tempted to call that person an obsessive compulsive moron because he seems so addicted to finding errors that he finds them when they aren't even there! He takes some things a bit too literally and other things completely out of context. Other things just make him sound like he's nitpicking.

I won't go through all of them, but I'll list some of the one he listed that I disagree with.

~Jake says it has been two years since Marco's mom died on p74. The two-year anniversary is reached in #5.

Not that much time passes between book 1 and book 5, so in book it has been near enough two years, so Jake just rounded up.

~Why doesn't Tom make Jake a Controller if he suspects him of knowing about the Yeerks?

I believe in book 1 Chapman tells Tom not to infest or kill Jake, as if they did that to every kid who might have been at the construction site then The Sharing would attract unwanted attention. As for the infesting, the whole point in The Sharing is to recruit willing hosts (which make it far easier who the Yeerk to control) rather than snatching every kid who goes there and dunking their head in the Pool.

~While Jake and Marco have an adventure at the Gardens, the rest of the gang goes off acquiring animals. The only animal we know they acquired is Rachel's elephant. Why didn't they acquire more?

Tobias already said that he wanted to stick with his hawk morph and Cassie had her horse morph (which she used in the Pool) so Rachel was the only one who needed to get a morph. Besides, they weren't separated for that long and probably spent some time looking for Marco and Jake.

~Shrews are referred to belonging under the class of rodent on p54, but they're actually insectivore.

Only Cassie might have known that and it was hardly the time or place for a biology discussion.

~Why does Magilla have a name? She's a patient in the barn; she's going to be released. Does Cassie spend her time naming every animal in the barn?

A 13 year old girl giving a cute animal a name? That's madness!  ::)

~Ax says Hork-Bajir can't swim on p124, but Jara says he can and does in #13. Perhaps Ax was sleeping in that class...

Swimming in a stream and swimming in the ocean are a bit different. I believe Ax said that they weren't strong swimmers, not that they couldn't swim at all.

~Temrash says he'll be an Under-Visser. The correct term is Sub-Visser.

The term Sub-Visser had not been used by that point in the series. Did it occur to you that KA just changed her mind?

~Ax forgets the 'Prince' title for Jake on p113.

And I'm sure that anyone who is friends with the Queen of England ALWAYS calls her Queen Elizabeth in casual conversation.

~There are no grizzly bears located in California zoos.

There aren't any brain stealing slugs in California either. It's called "fiction."

~Cassie uses her T-shirt as bandages on p77. But she wears a leotard to morph, so where did she get a T-shirt?

Maybe the leotard was starting to smell so she decided to try a new morphing suit for a change?  :P

~Jake wonders if he can morph the poison out on p94, but he did so in #6 as a roach.

In book 6 he was poisoned by bug spray, something that would certainly not be harmful to a human in small amounts. In book 11 he was most likely bitten by a snake whose venom was deadly to humans as well as his Tiger morph.

•No goofs have been found yet.

Not even the one you said earlier about the Hork-Bajir swimming? Or the fact that Ax's translator chip should allow him to understand the HB language, but he claims he is unfamiliar with certain words.

I could go on, but I think my point is made. He really does sound like he's desperate to find flaws.

Well the one about the hork-bajir swimming...since their planet is a valley with trees, where did hork-bajir learn how to swim? I can't imagine there being any kind of body of water other than puddles in the valleys.

They never went into much detail on where they got there water from, but in book 34 there is a big Yeerk Pool which I believe Aldrea said used to be a lake or something. I doubt Hork-Bajir would be capable of long distance swimming, but brief paddling probably wouldn't be a problem. After all, humans didn't evolve for swimming either but we learned.

the bottom of the lake was wood wasn't it? and in HBC, it said because of the valleys, the yeerks could build a pool in the ground, so the cut a tree and used it as a pool.

In HBC yes, that's what they did. The one in #34 is either a different pool or a much larger extension of the one mentioned in HBC.

I'm no tree expert, but I don't think you can get water out of tree bark. However, I don't recall it being mentioned how Hork-Bajir obtain water, so I guess it's a possibility.

~Ax doesn't understand kissing on p6. However in the Hork-Bajir Chronicles, Aldrea says Andalites kiss by rubbing palms (p189).

A human kiss is different then rubbing palms.

~The 'evil' Animorphs shouldn't exist. Visser Four changed many drastic events, and the world is very different (including America). The altered events should make a completely new population as people have children at different times.

It's called 'suspension of disbelief', You need to be able to do it to enjoy science fiction.

~When Marco enters the school on p24, he 'booked' around the corner. It should be spelled looked.

'Booked' means ran, as in he ran around the corner.

~Rachel has piercings in her ears for the earrings; yet morphing would remove the holes. Or does she pierce them every time she demorphs?

Again, suspension of disbelief.

~In the Hork-Bajir Chronicles, the Council of Thirteen is said to not have known about the rebel Yeerks (p7) which would place them on the quarantined Yeerk home world. In Visser, the Council of Thirteen has mysteriously left the Andalite quarantine and is on a ship.

A lot can happen in 30 years.

Sara is written as Sarah

I spell my name multiple ways too. And what do you know, my name is Sarah-Jayne.
