My Name Is Red
« on: September 15, 2010, 09:48:32 AM »
Hey guys! My name is Red (for real; no nickname/internet name memorising conundrum for you) and I've been an Animorphs fan for over a decade. It's a relief to find this forum 'cause I never had any friends who were as into the series as me, growing up. Losers ;)

I always related to Marco as a kid but now I'm older I just love Tobias. Every so often I make the Animorphs as characters on The Sims and act out what would happened next if Rachel hadn't died. Geek much?

Anyway, I'm 22 and hail from the rainy city of Manchester in England. I'm studying for a Masters in Creative Writing and have always wanted to write/edit the Animorps Critical Companion!

How about you? Any other British fans around? Tell me about yourselves!

- Red (struggling to post with the weight of a very sleepy kitten across her arms!)

My neighbor is named Red! Considering that the awesomeness of my neighbor must be a trend, you are bound to be awesome, too! :D

Welcome to RAF! I'm Marie, and I'm super-excited to see another writer on the forum! Please do share some of your work with us some time.

I haven't been to Manchester; about the closest I've been is Wakefield, but I hear it's really nice! If you feel like showing off your accent some time, you should join us for a Skype session. Most conversations happen in the evenings in the US, so that might be too late for you, but the weekends are often more flexible. Looking forward to seeing you around the boards! :)

Red? Red Richards?  :o
lol
wHELLcome, Red!
I'm Vis... I'm Dameg, another RAFian. I have something to show you, are you redy? (lol sorry ^^') Come with me. It's here, after this door *Open a heavy door* We call them the RAFprojects. *Lead Red to a long and dark hallway, with many doors, some in the dark, some with light coming from the other side. Arrive near the first door* Here at your left...

- The Ebooks project: [Help wanted!] Animorphs (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0), Remnants (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html <= finished), Everworld (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html <= almost finished, it's our current priority, we need help to correct the volume #3 and check all the volumes to be sure there is no missing page); the Everworld/Animorphs ebooks need to be cleaned a little (mistakes, missing pages, we don't know where the chapters begin and finish, etc.) so if you wanna be a correcter... call me, I head that projects.

Facing it is...

- RAFipedia: http://rafipedia.wetpaint.com/, an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);

Next it's...

- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0, a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel;

and here...

- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html, a Webcomic headed by Gafrash.

You also have...

- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html, we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...);

here and facing it is...

- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html, a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks;

Next door is for the special project:

- http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html: the adventures of the RAFians;

At the end it's for the little projects:

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html to make the planets we hear about in Animorphs;

- the paper-RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^;

- the RPG project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html to make a video game about Animorphs, with RPGmaker;

- the Command-line game project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html for another kind of video game about Animorphs;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html where we count all the people killed by the Animorphs;

- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735, where we make songs and sing them...

- the One RAFian On Volume project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5317.0 where everybody take a picture of him/herself with a volume of Animorphs...

and some other projects who come and go. Please check the list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html

*Standing in front of Ruby Red* I hope you enjoyed your visit. Oh, and I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller. ... and if you want, you can add your age too: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html... and say where do you live here: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5049.0 so Marie can add you on the RAFworld Map!
We also opened a http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=36.0 to teach to each others our languages and other stuffs.

Now I have to go, I don't invite you for the meal, sorry. *Beginning to go down dark stairs. Red can hear a cry coming from the cave.*
Have fun!
*Dameg disappears into the darkness, Red is now alone in the hallway*

Nice to meet you Red! I always love the rare occasions when a fellow Brit joins. If nothing else it's a relief to have someone from my own time zone around!

I never knew any real life fans growing up either, so I'm eternally grateful for this place for providing intelligent (and often completely insane) Animorphs based conversation! Of course I ended up staying because of all the awesome and friendly people I met here, and I hope you choose to do the same.

So you're from Manchester? Cool, I'm from there myself originally, but I moved when I was very young. I only live about an hour away though and I have some relatives who still live there.

If I wasn't so lazy I'd definitely consider doing a Masters in Creative Writing, as it was one of the few things I enjoyed at school. I've been meaning to sign up for an online course but never got around to it. If you have any material you're willing to post (Animorphs or non-Animorphs) then I'd love to check it out.

I'm sure you won't have any problems here, as we're generally a friendly bunch, but if you do don't hesitate to ask myself or another member of staff for assistance.

Nice meeting you! :)

Thanks everyone, it's lovely to meet you!

Welcome to RAF! I'm Marie, and I'm super-excited to see another writer on the forum! Please do share some of your work with us some time.

Anyway, I'm Ash, and I look forward to reading some of your work if you're willing to share :)

Aww, thanks guys! I'll stick around for a bit and then maybe share something; I don't want to be one of those people who, after ten posts, are all "So I wrote this, praise me, praise me!!"  :P

So you're from Manchester? Cool, I'm from there myself originally, but I moved when I was very young. I only live about an hour away though and I have some relatives who still live there.

I'm originally from Sussex but after going to university at Keele, Manchester seemed the next logical step. Big City! Anyway, I love it here. Lots to do, which is refreshing :)

Hey Red! I'm Terenia, nice to meet you! I might pick your brain about your Masters degree: I was considering studying abroad in England to get a Masters in Creative Writing. Don't know if I'd ever be able to, but it's definitely something that interests me. I'd also love to see some of your writing!

Enjoy your time here! I hope to see plenty of you around the boards! :D :D

Personally, in this 'current economical climate' I'd be like, "Nooo! Don't do it!" I've wasted a lot of good money writing stories when I could have got qualifications to work in a museum or library.

However, doom aside, if you're doing it for fun purposes then this is good! My class are pretty tight knit and you do establish that special bond with people from sharing so much of your inner workings! If you were to do an MA here though I'd try and find one that has a lot of contact time. I've pretty much been left to my own devices.

Ahem. Was this a lot of needless babble? Anyway, hi! :D

Hi Red. I'm Tyler. People like me because I'm modest and very personable. :)

I hope you enjoy your time here on RAF! I've been here for about 5 years, and there are a few around here that have been around longer than that! We're a great community of fun-loving, slightly-crazy (who am i kidding, COMPLETELY crazy) individuals. Stick around, enjoy the shows! :D

Heh, this is good to know  :P

I'm impressed at how long people have stuck around for. I'm a member of a forum that's been going for a decade and it just doesn't feel like there's enough of that any more. Everything's very Facebooky  :-\
