A little good came from it, but that didn't outweigh the bad. Any good that came from doing that could have also come from giving the power to Yeerks in a safer way. Like offering it to the Hork-Bajir controllers that the free Hork-Bajir captured. Or something like that. Using a controlled situation.

how would I know? that's why I used the word might. it's a possibility. maybe tom would've killed jake. nobody knows for sure.
