Animorphs Statistics- By Me!
« on: July 30, 2010, 10:48:46 PM »
8) So, ever wondered how long it would take to read the entire Ani series, every single book, compared to other major novel series? Well now you can know. Here are my statistics for Animorphs compared to a major novel series; Harry Potter.

Animorphs
#1 The Invasion 34,572 words,  184 pages, avg  188 words per page.
#2 The Visitor 32,911 words,  175 pages, avg  188 words per page.
#3 The Encounter 26,997 words, 154 pages, avg 175 words per page.
Total avg 171 pages, 184 words per page.
Harry Potter
#4 Goblet of Fire 196,215 words, 734 pages, avg 267 words per page.
#6 Half-Blood Prince 172,922 words,  652 pages, avg 265 words per page.
#7 Deathly Hollows 204,237 words,  759 pages, avg 269 words per page.
Total avg 715 pages 267 words per page.
Analysis
Each Animorphs page is about 68.9% of a Harry Potter page. Each Animorphs book is about 118 Harry Potter pages. There are 54 books in the original series of Animorphs and 4 Megamorphs  at about 135% of a regular book. Then there are the 4 chronicle books which make up about 542% of a regular book collectively. Finally there are the extra books of Alternamorphs and Meet The Animorphs, and these are 191% together  of a regular book.  That’s about 67 books for the whole series.
So… 67 Ani books x 118 HP pages = 7,906 HP Pages, or 11,457 Ani pages.
Adjusted for font size, my estimate for number of HP pages for the whole HP series is about 4,110 pages.
So, reading the entire Animorphs series is like reading the entire Harry Potter series about 1.92 times.

Now you know!
 :P

PS This doesn't include the extra HP books such as Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Wow. Didn't realize Animorphs were longer than HP. And I always say I don't read HP because it's too long :-X

No problem! These questions have been nagging me for years. There are a lot of Ani books, but they are relatively short and the font size is a bit big, so I wanted to know how much I was really reading.

Yup, one method of improving the reliability of getting the response you want out of someone is breaking the task into smaller, descrete packages; Skinner observed it as well as many other response techniques in rodents. Its why you can eat a whole bag of potato chips when you would have been satisfied with a snack bar instead, the chips are so small it is easier to keep having "Just one more." Its also the reason for tiny levels in New Super Mario Bros. Wii or frequent checkpoints in video games, so that you will do "just one more thing" before stopping. I don't think that the Harry Potter books could have been broken down at all, but it is certainly true that those smaller Goosbumps, Animorphs and other Scholastic books are a more reliable way to keep people coming back on a long term basis.

Anyways, I'm not sure I agree with the twice as awesome. Don't get me wrong, I love Animorphs, but HP was pretty darn awesome too, even if a bit overrated amongst the general public.
