How big do you think the Animorphs fandom is?
« on: July 03, 2008, 06:32:27 PM »
Initially I was surprised to see some sizeable Animorphs sites that were still active, because the series ended 7 years ago and the books have been out-of-print for a while.

If the fandom were large enough, the movie would have a pretty good chance of happening.

So, how big do you think it is?

Animorphs is so big it wouldn't fit in the milky way.

Hopefully large enough to get a movie rolling someday!

If I had to guess...I'd say at its peak there were a few million fans.  It's hard to say how many there are now...maybe a few hundred thousand, or a million, since it's out of print?  Just guessing.  Does anyone have any actual data on this kinda stuff?  As for hardcore fans, how many people are here?  150 or so...maybe a few hundred total on various forums.  We should have a worldwide Animorphs census, darnit. x3

It may be that there are lots of Animorphs fans still around that don't know that Animorphs sites exist.

I think that it was big enough that the people who remembered it would want to see a movie. I also think that if the movie is done well enough it would attract even more fans.

The best way to do the movies would be to do about 6-8 movies with a beginning story arc, an arc that features each major character, a David arc mixed in there, and a conclusion. It would be a very good marketing idea to re-release the books - maybe stagger them with each movie so new fans could wait for each new book - and have new covers with the movie actors.

I think animorphs is in the top twenty most popular of fanficttion.net. But I'd have to check. I think there are, what, 7050 fanfics?
If you are not in my avatar, and would like to be, or if you changed your name and avatar and would like me to update it, PM me. I cannot add or change anyone at the moment as I lost the file I use for this, but if people still want in, I'll work on it.

Harry Potter is the largest, by far, but Animorphs has around 5,000. Anything with more than 1,000 fics is pretty substantial.

They don't have a character filter though. Does anyone know how they implement that?

A 6-8 Movie deal would probably never happen.  I don't think anyone would even be interested in that many movies, especially since most big blockbuster franchises don't even get that kind of attention, unless Harry Potter, which Animorphs is nowhere as popular. Even i'd get tired having to continue the story that way. And the only way to have credible animal fight scenes is by use of some serious CGI, which would be a huge cost.

I think a trilogy would be best for their story. But I dont even want an Animorphs movie unless it can be done RIGHT. If not, then id take animation anyday

I'd say it'd be pretty big.

Although why is it that alot of our friends never seem to know what animorphs is?

That part I don't get.
